MI and Servant Leadership

Glenn and Sebastian welcomed Jemima Neddy Organ to the podcast to discuss MI and servant leadership. Jemima is a community educator having worked as an instructor and training consultant in Kenya and the Middle East. In Kenya, Jemima was actively involved in advocacy and education of mental health issues in the community. She initiated the writing of the psychological bill to acknowledge counseling as a profession in Kenya. Jemima also initiated a behavior change program for youth (in a faith-based organization). The program is now in six countries in Africa due to her active training and mentoring of the leaders.

Jemima has a Ph.D. from the Organization, Information, & Learning Sciences (OILS) program at the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque USA with a focus on Instructional Design (ID), Adult Education & Professional Development (AE&PD), and Motivational Interviewing in leadership (MI-Lead). Her dissertation was on “Motivational Interviewing: A Tool for Servant Leadership.” She was trained, coached, and is being mentored by Dr. William Miller, the father of MI. Jemima holds a master’s degree in Counseling Psychology from Daystar University in Nairobi, Kenya, and a bachelor’s degree in Psychology and Counseling from the University of Nairobi, Kenya. Jemima has over 27 years’ of experience in the mental health profession and is also a licensed professional counselor-candidate (LPCC) in Colorado. Jemima is an active member of the Motivational Interviewing Network of Trainers (MINT) and she integrates her counseling skills with adult education and professional development. Her visionary personality has enabled her to initiate MI as a tool for servant leaders. Jemima gives presentations, trains, teaches, and coaches leaders on how to incorporate Motivational Interviewing in their leadership style.
