THE MOST INTERESTING MAN IN THE WORLD, Part 2
06/11/21 • 50 min
Mark Novak, The Most Interesting Man in the World, returns to TALK JAM for another enlightening episode! This precision instrument repairman has sailed on America's nuclear submarines, repaired three-hundred-year-old pipe organs in historic churches, taught high-school students HOW to learn, and now researches and restores old guns to their former glory--all while running a popular YouTube channel and discussing history, politics and world economics without missing a beat.
Today we ask just one simple question: "Mark, what's wrong with the world?"
You won't believe his answer!
He IS... the most interesting man in the world.

Today's episode is brought to you by REALIZING YOU: A Novel Approach to Changing Your Life, by Ron Doades and Susan Sloate, a self-help NOVEL (I invented the genre, back in 2013!) and a great read to assist in making those 'small changes that bring big results'. Filled with a great story and creative exercises to help you, this novel is both a dynamite read and a chance to turn over a new leaf:

Mandatory Hotel Quarantine in Dublin, Ireland : Talk Jam Extra #3
Welcome to Talk Jam Extra #3. In this extra episode, Kelly and Susan discuss how Kelly has found herself in Mandatory Hotel Quarantine in Dublin, Ireland, due to a family emergency. What Kelly calls an emergency, the Irish Government does not call an emergency.
Having been distraught when she first arrived, she has managed to work within the confinement of the hotel on the family emergency. However, just being in the same time zone has made a great deal of difference. Mind you, this is recorded just a few days into the quarantine, so catch up with us on our next podcast, and I am sure Kelly will be able to give you an idea of how things went after the first four days.
We hope you enjoy the discussion and learn how to navigate some international travel in this unprecedented season.

"AMERICA IS GREAT" and Introducing "KYLE & COREY and the Game-Store Mystery"
Episode 24 of Season 2 is special--Kelly is back from Ireland and behind the microphone again, where she belongs! We've all missed her, and we're so glad to be creating new content for you IN PERSON again! Thanks for sticking with us through this very tough time!
This episode has two jams, starting with a Political Talk segment unlike the others. In this one, instead of defining a term that may not be familiar, I just read a very special quote from Alexis de Tocqueville--which you may know as the "America is great because she is good" quote. This quote is beloved by many, including several presidents--Reagan, Clinton, Eisenhower and even Nixon--except... did Alexis de Tocqueville ever really SAY it or WRITE it? As far as we know, he didn't! So who did? We explore that question--along with a sidebar on racism and a 1960's experiment on prejudice that Kelly herself took part in at school--in this riveting jam.
Our second jam features a conversation about a brand-new book we're really excited about! Full disclosure: Susan is a principal in Covfefe Press, a small local publishing house, and they've just published the first book by one of her closest friends! Joe Stephens has loved boys' series books for years, and now he's written his own, the first in a series, titled KYLE & COREY and the Game-Store Mystery, for readers 9-15. Susan and Kelly (who has also known Joe for years) talk about his inspiration for the series and his plans to write more books. You won't want to miss this one!
Here's the entire "America is great because America is good" quote:
“I sought for the greatness of the United States in her commodious harbors, her ample rivers, her fertile fields, and boundless forests–and it was not there. I sought for it in her rich mines, her vast world commerce, her public school system, and in her institutions of higher learning–and it was not there. I looked for it in her democratic Congress and her matchless Constitution–and it was not there. Not until I went into the churches of America and heard her pulpits flame with righteousness did I understand the secret of her genius and power. America is great because America is good, and if America ever ceases to be good, America will cease to be great.”

For the first time, today's episode is brought to you by a book written by an author OTHER than your hosts! And because the entire episode is pretty much about that book, we WON'T be including a commercial--so you get the whole episode AD-FREE!!
