Take the DAMN Chance

Take the DAMN Chance

Bevin Farrand

This is the podcast committed to helping women achieve your dreams, even after going through Deeply Challenging Experiences.
Losing someone you love, health issues, fertility treatments, divorce....all of those things that make us stop in our tracks and go "Damn, that was hard."
Even after going through these experiences, you can still create your big, bold, wonderful life...and this is the podcast to support you in doing just that!
Bevin Farrand created the Do the DAMN Thing Method after going through her own Deeply Challenging Experiences - not just losing her husband unexpectedly six days after her 40th birthday, but also years of fertility treatments, losing her dad to cancer, losing her home in a house fire....Even through those ups and downs, she has created a powerful life -- moving forward with IVF using embryos frozen before her husband passed away, growing a successful business, speaking on stages across the country...all while being the Mama she wants to be to her three young children.
The DAMN Framework is:
D - Decide and Declare
A - Attend Your Own Party
M - Moments not Minutes
N - Now is the Time!
It's changed Bevin's life and it has the power to change yours as well!

Marni Battista is the founder of The Institute for Living Courageously and Dating with Dignity. She is a courageous and inspiring individual who is dedicated to helping others live a life of meaning and fulfillment. With a diverse career and a passion for personal growth, Marni and her husband embarked on a new adventure in 2021, choosing to live life on their own terms. They started the Radical Living Challenge, designing a life that is a true expression of their souls.

Marni's journey towards intentional living began with a powerful realization. Sitting in her office at the age of 54, she reflected on her empty nest and the passing of her mother. It was in that moment that she decided she didn't want to spend the remaining years of her life yearning for the past. This realization sparked a desire to curate a life of meaning and fulfillment, and she hasn't looked back since.

Tune into this inspiring episode as Bevin and Marni delve into the transformative power of asking the right questions, listening to your inner voice, and embracing the wonders of life.

Whenever our life’s circumstances change — whether that be through losing someone we love, moving across the country, having children — our network of support can change as well. But having that support, what we often call “our tribe,” is critical to achieving our goals and enjoying our everyday life.

That’s exactly what our host, Bevin Farrand, explores today. She’s gone through several significant life changes, including becoming a widow, several big moves, having children, so she’s had to build and rebuild her own tribe on many different occasions. And today she’s sharing 10 things to consider when wanting to build or rebuild your own tribe.

If you, like so many, don’t have all of the support that you want and need in your life, then this is the episode for you!

Topics discussed in this episode:

  • Understanding the challenges of pursuing goals after loss or significant life changes
  • Exploring the concept of building a supportive network rather than seeking to replace the lost individual
  • Discussing the error of expecting others to fulfill multiple needs beyond their capacity
  • Emphasizing the importance of understanding that new relationships or friendships cannot fill the void left by the lost individual
  • Conclusion emphasizing the importance of identifying and fulfilling needs while building new relationships after loss or significant life changes

If you’re feeling stuck between pushing yourself harder or giving yourself grace, you aren’t alone. You have amazing capabilities...but your capacity can vary based on different factors in life. In the long run, always choosing to push yourself harder can end up derailing you and have a huge negative impact on your health, your relationships, and the other important areas of your life.

In today’s episode our host, Bevin Farrand, discusses the difference between knowing you are capable of pushing yourself harder and your actual capacity to do so. Capacity is not fixed, but will ebb and flow depending on what’s happening in your life. Rather than holding yourself to a rigid standard, it’s important to allow for flexibility in your goals and expectations.

If that sounds familiar and you’re someone who likes to get things done (like Bevin!), this is a crucial conversation for you.
You will hear how to evaluate and prioritize your goals, the importance of grounding yourself so you can listen to your body and intuition, being aware of how your health is being affected, and allowing yourself grace and compassion when taking a step back.
Sometimes pushing a little less is the best course of action, and we want to show you how and why.

Tune in for this and more!

Topics discussed in this episode:

  • Capability vs. capacity
  • Evaluating the urgency of your goals
  • The importance of awareness of your body and mind
  • Considering the long term impact of pushing harder
  • Balancing your priorities
  • How overwhelm can block your ability to hear your intuition
  • The importance of compassion and self-forgiveness

Have you ever had someone in your life who made a significant impact on you? Maybe it was a teacher who inspired you to pursue your passions, a mentor who believed in you when you didn't believe in yourself, or a family member who provided unwavering support during a difficult time.
Often, we don't realize the full extent of someone's impact on our lives until much later. We may even take their influence for granted, assuming that they already know how much they mean to us.
On this episode of All the DAMN Things, we explore the importance of expressing gratitude and making meaningful connections with people who have made an impact on our lives, even in seemingly insignificant ways.
Telling someone the impact they've had on your life can be an incredibly powerful experience, both for the person receiving the message and for the person delivering it. Bevin explores the benefits of this message and also gives some tips on how to start the conversation.

Topics discussed in this episode:

  • 00:01 - Losing someone can inspire meaningful connections; Bevin challenges listeners to change someone's life
  • 1:40 - The author discusses losing their father-in-law Keith who was like a father figure and shares reflections from his funeral
  • 3:01 - Before her dad passed away, Bevin wrote him a letter all about the most important moments. This story would eventually inspire the Moments not Minutes element of the DAMN Framework
  • 4:21 - Value moments over minutes, acknowledge impactful moments and express gratitude to those who created them in your life.
  • 5:12 - Reaching out to people who have made an impact on our lives is important as it validates their efforts and can change their lives
  • 8:05 - Expressing gratitude can have a huge impact. It may feel awkward reaching out to someone unexpectedly but it is worth it

Finally, the episode concludes with a challenge to listeners to reach out and express gratitude towards someone who has made a difference in their lives, and Bevin offers a suggestion of how to start the conversation, even if it feels a little awkward at first.
