You ever have a friend bail you out of jail?
How about a friend who saved your ass from embarrassment?
We all have friends, some great, some that we wished we never met. Those friends from our childhoods who we met from our parents' child dates so that they could gossip. Or those friends from the sports we played who we never saw again afterward. Even friends from our friends who knew our friends from their friends.

Friends are everywhere. And they're an important part of life.
But why do we have all these different types of friends and why do some go and some stay?
A lot of people wonder about this and it's something that we want to discuss. One thing Anita and Eric have discovered from building and losing friends is that it helps build character, which will be the main part of the conversation in episode 28 of Taiwanica!

Fire up the BBQ and Grill Up Some Mooncake - It's Moon Festival Time!! EP 27

傳訊息給我們 (Send us a Text Message)

Did you know that the calories in one moon cake are equal to 45 minutes of running?
I first heard this while I was scarfing down my third egg yolk moon cake of the day (I didn't count how many for the week).
Let's just say... I haven't had much moon cake since then.
Taiwan sure does love them. So much that you can find them in literally every store, stand, or office building around this time.

Then there was BBQ. Once just commercial advertising the great taste of BBQ sauce during this time of the year has turned this activity into a cultural must-do, if not, your parents, neighbors, and distant relatives will all gasp at your disgrace for not buying a grill to celebrate the big moon - SHAME!

Mid-autumn festival is all about getting together with family and friends one last time before the summer ends and people go back to their regular routines and get used to them again like going to school, being serious about work, and leaving home after a nice summer break.
So how do the Taiwanese celebrate?
They like to get together and have some barbecue, share a few moon cakes, and be merry throughout the week by doing a whole lot of nothing. It's actually Eric's favorite holiday in Taiwan in episode 27 of Taiwanica!
The Best BBQ Sauce in the WORLD, Eric's Favorite!
SOME QUESTIONS YOU MIGHT WONDER:

• How did Eric and Anita enjoy their mid-autumn festival what is a similar holiday in the USA during the same time?
• What are some of the differences between the changing of seasons in the USA and Taiwan?
• Why is barbecue such a popular thing during this time?
• And much more!
We hope you enjoy today's episode because it's a very special one for us.
Anita and Eric really enjoy discussing this podcast episode because it reminds them of being in Taiwan and celebrating with their close friends. We are sure you can relate to those who are in the USA and those in Taiwan who wish to travel again.

Time to hide under the table or run out of the building! Mother Nature is angry. (An Episode About Natural Disasters) EP 29

傳訊息給我們 (Send us a Text Message)

Ever seen a tornado?
Have you ever been in an earthquake?
Disasters are ... well... scary!
No matter what country you're in and where in that country you are, mother nature has a way of striking fear into your heart. This is something that we all can relate to but just in different ways. For some, it's something from the sea, for others, it's something from the sky, and even for others, it's something from the land itself.
No, this is not a band reference. I am talking about the real elements of the Earth: water wind and fire.

It's important to be careful during these times. But more importantly to enjoy our stories from these experiences and see how others have understood these crazy events.
A lot of people wonder about this and it's something that we want to discuss. Each country has its big disaster that everyone connects with, which will be the main part of the conversation in episode 29 of Taiwanica!
