Welcome to another episode of our Thriving Thirties Series. Our guest today is the talented, the fabulous, the ray of sunshine, Christine Jordan. She graduated from the University of California Davis with a degree in Computer Engineering. Right after college, her career took a different turn, as she began working at one of the biggest accounting firms in the world, and through natural talent for working with teams, an excellent eye for detail, and her ability to lead with humilty and grace, her career trajectory began as an admin assistant at age 24, then slowly but surely moved up the ranks to executive assistant at 32, to manager, and then regional manager when she turned 38 a couple years ago.
Literally everyone that ever meets her say she is one of the nicest people they’ve ever met, and that is no exaggeration. To be around her is to have your day brightened up, and to interact with someone who will genuinely choose to see the best in you.
One small detail, is that she happens to be my big sister, so I have known her all my life and I can tell you that she is a gem for our family who selflessly takes care of everyone and makes quality time with her family her first priority.
She also makes self-care a priority and stays fit by eating healthy, thanks to a healthy addiction to cooking shows, and in 2021 is still obsessed with the backstreet boys and exercises by dancing to them and many other of our favorite pop songs from the 90s and 2000s.
We are bringing her on today to reflect on her 30s as she is at the very end of this incredible decade, what it has been like to grow in her career, the joys and challenges of raising teenage daughters and how she lives a life of true peace and happiness. We recorded this episode at 9pm on the day before her 40th birthday so this is an incredible and extra special moment that we are capturing, right here on Syren thriving, that she is of course giving us, because I will forever be the spoiled little sister.IN THIS EPISODE WE DISCUSS:
- how getting older makes you think about the next decades and phases of your life
- the joys and challenges of motherhood and raising teenagers in your 30s
- the lifelong journey of gaining confidence in yourself and overcoming fears
- the importance of self-care and renewing your spirit
-how calling someone a "human being" can be a "self-check" to send compassion for others
- the power of gratitude and the exact process our guest uses for dealing with the inevitable hardships of life

Today our special guest is one of my dearest friends and previous bandmates from New York, Lara Liberstein.
Born and raised in the Bronx, Lara has been in bands for the last decade and a half and stays active by playing softball and just got her boating license. She earned a degree in television production and business and she’s worked in television as a graphics operator at virtually all the major news networks for the last 15 years
Besides being a badass rock guitarist, she is also one of the realest people I know, not only fearless in what she says, but she does it matter of fact way, which makes her a loyal and powerful friend. She's also hilarious and we have both the deepest and the raunchiest conversations ever.
We’re bringing her one today to talk about her philosophy on getting old, why she will be a musician for the rest of her life and how not to be afraid to say what the fuck you feel.
IN THIS EPISODE WE DISCUSS:
- A healthy debate on joking about age
- How our conversations around food and nutrition change as we get older
- Women choosing to be child free and the pressure and judgement society places on women surrounding childbearing.

Welcome to another episode of our Thriving 30s Series featuring special guest Joel Fontaine. They graduated from UC Berkeley with a Bachelor’s in English and Gender & Women’s Studies with a minor in creative writing, and let me tell you they are utilizing all of it. We met when they starred in my musical 5 years ago and they gave their incredible performances to all 6 productions so far. They are deeply passionate about empowering marginalized communities by founding Urban Rezilliency, whose purpose is to alleviate the homelessness crises plaguing the Bay Area and those most at risk, which include LGBTQ + BIPOC youth and domestic violence survivors. They are also an accomplished artist and have won such awards such as the Phineas Literary Magazine for poetry with their “Welcome to America 2” piece, and produced and wrote their own film called "Post Prismatic” for the 2020 premier of the Queer Women of Color Festival.
Aside from being an amazing artist, academic and activist, Joel is also one of the funniest people I know, cracking me up with smart-ass jokes, and they can recall and reference movies and theater shows with as much detail as if they wrote it themselves, and they are one of the most creative people who give their heart and soul in every performance writes poetry that speaks to the soul and uplifts marginalized voices.
We are bringing them on today to talk about how they feel about just turning 30 a few months ago, living their passion for community work by founding a non-profit and growing their passion as an artist by continue to pursue theater and co-founding a writers group (with me), and recent acceptance to their dream school Columbia to pursue their masters degree.
IN THIS EPISODE WE DISCUSS:
- What drives you to be highly-accomplished in your 20s and how you can maintain that ambition through your 30s and beyond.
- How Gen Z and Boomers (lightly - and maybe not so lightly) make fun of us Millennials.
- How we must obliterate the notion of "nice guys finish last" and the importance of building a support system around your true identity and your biggest dreams

Welcome to another episode of Syren Thriving, featuring special guest Sasha Savonovic.
Sasha was born in Bosnia and came here as a refugee from the war. Despite, if not through this incredible hardship, he excelled in school and studied economics, eventually getting an economics degree from University of California, San Diego. He has since held positions in one of the top macroeconomic adviser firms in the world, and has since progressed his career into the tech startup world where he continues to shine in sales and business development.
Aside from being an investment guru, he is one of the kindest and most confident people I’ve ever met. He is simultaneously full of love and truly accepts and respects anyone for who they are, yet does not give a shit what anyone thinks about him, if they don’t matter of course. He is fiercely loved by his family and loyal groups of friends, and of course, his girlfriend ;)
He also happens to be a great cook that not only makes great food, but plates it as beautifully as a 5 star restaurant.
We are bringing him on today to talk about why it’s important to gain financial literacy at any age, the steps he is taking to reach financial freedom in his 30s, including purchasing his first property, valuing yourself in your career and keeping a growth mindset and his unique perspective on lifelong friendships and long-term relationships.
IN THIS EPISODE WE DISCUSS:
- how bio-hacking relates to and defies agesim
- tech-hacks to help you be more efficient and focused when consuming information
- the importance and process for having a healthy "information diet"
- how having a long-time horizon is beneficial for investing, relationships and health
- the benefits of choosing the ones you love everyday and for life

Til I Hear'em Say by NEFFEX

Our special guest today is Ttori Johnson. She is an incredible person who has pursued a full life through travelling and culture, deep relationships through a relentless offering of love and support, and a meaningful life through education and volunteer work.
As far as education, Ttori originally wanted to study law. Her plans were derailed after a fallout with her mother and she was kicked out of the house at 17 years old. Even at such a young age, Ttori was determined to take the next steps in her life, so went on to obtain an undergraduate degree in medical business management. She went on to a flourishing career in the medical field, taking on various clinical operations management positions over the last 17 years.
For the last few years she has volunteered at the East Oakland Collective and serves as a volunteer coordinator for the Feed the Hood Program, which led her to a major career shift, and is where she now works.
Not only is she highly accomplished in her career and volunteer history, but she is one of the most genuine people I know, one of the most incredible mother’s I’ve ever met, and one of the most loyal friends I could ever ask for. When she says she will always be there for you, she means it, and I am so grateful for her friendship over the last 20 years. Within the same sentence she will give the most profound insight then the most hilarious clapback to anyone or anything that is out of pocket, or in other words, misaligned with the truth.
We are bringing her on today to talk about her successful career path, her recent career change, her recent engagement to the love of her life and some insights on how she has raised an incredible young man.
