Giving birth in one country isn’t the same as giving birth in another country, even if both countries speak English. It’s always important to know what you’re walking into when you walk into a hospital, no matter where you are, as they can differ from place to place. Jessica learned this firsthand with her drastic difference in care from her first birth to her next two. And sometimes, while something seems fine or OK or tolerable in the moment, years later it can hit us, and we end up needing to process through what was done to us (or our babies) long after the fact, as it can impact our future, and specifically, future pregnancies and births. All of this came together to culminate in a Holy Spirit-led free birth, one of which the enemy was trying to steal, kill, and destroy all along the way, but Jessica stood her ground in the authority she has in the name of Jesus to have her baby at home. Immediate postpartum, however, didn’t go quite as smoothly, but God was in every detail, and used every moment to create a testimony for Jessica as He called her to share her story for His glory and for the encouragement, education, and empowerment of others.

Picture this. You’re pregnant with your first child, figuring out and learning about everything for the first time, gearing up for a natural labor and taking care of your body the best that you can, and just before you’re about to give birth, your taste and smell change for the worse-they’re completely distorted in the worst way, making it extremely difficult to eat, which is exactly what you'll need to do after a marathon labor and while trying to nurse your new baby. You’re sleep deprived, so sore, beyond exhausted mentally, emotionally, physically, and legitimately starving, and yet you must go on for the sake of your child. This isn’t my story, though it has its similarities. This is Hannah’s story, and how she navigated having parosmia from the end of her first pregnancy, through her baby’s toddlerhood, and beyond. She’s been a source of light, encouragement and hope for me through my own journey, and I hope, even if you’ve never experienced anything like parosmia, that she can encourage you as well, because we all go through hard things, we all suffer, but we can all grow and learn from them and come out better and stronger on the other side, leaning on Jesus our savior and hanging on the truth of His word to get us there.

Hannah's website where she has tons of parosmia resources can be found by clicking here.
You can also find Hannah on instagram, here.

Surrendered Birth Stories - 056 I Turning Trials Into Triumph in Birth (with Emilie Cubino)
play

09/16/24 • 122 min

As a first time mom, sometimes you just don’t know what you don’t know. And Emilie didn’t know she was being induced, or why. But that wasn’t all. She also got the one doctor she definitely didn’t want, and what he said during her labor will shock you (or maybe not, if you’re familiar with how some surgically minded OB’s can be). Then, as she was planning her peaceful second birth at home, everything changed last minute, and not only did she end up moving multiple states away, but tragedy struck, and she had to be without her husband during delivery. What amazes me about Emilie was her ability to see the positive in the situation, to see God’s grace and His blessings He gave her throughout the journey.

When your first birth is an induction in the hospital that turns into a postpartum hemorrhage, and your second is a lightning fast birth where you had the baby in the van on the side of the highway...you could imagine holding off on having another baby for awhile, and even then, preparing for birth in a different way. But when you're able to describe your third birth as not only peaceful, but fun, I’d say that’s a great redemption story. I was blessed to sit down with Parker and Michaela as they shared with me the journey of how their third baby came to be, and every twist and turn throughout the experience! Seriously, tune in, this one’s not only heart warming, but has it’s downright hilarious moments too!

Well...not always. Hear how Kristian’s journey with postpartum anxiety went and how she was able to overcome it, as well as what God has taught her through this trying postpartum time.

Surrendered Birth Stories - 044 I Birth Before and After Finding God (with Christine Hollis)
play

06/24/24 • 50 min

When you’re not in relationship with the Lord, and you’re going through something as life changing as birth for the first time, things can seem pretty scary, especially if you’re navigating something as serious as postpartum psychosis, but God can and still uses these incredibly emotional situations in our lives to draw us closer to Him. Hear how God was able to work through Christine’s first birth and postpartum by calling her to Him through the darkest period of her life, and then how He was able to give her supernatural peace during her second son’s birth as she chose to trust and surrender to Him.
As mentioned in this episode: The First Forty Days (book)
