What's it like navigating a $9 million opera company through a pandemic? Richard Russell can tell you, and he does so openly and honestly. With a positive spirit and an amazing calmness to his voice, Richard tells us of his many roles with the Sarasota Opera the past 31 years, the tough financial decisions the Sarasota Opera has had to make the past four months, how the pandemic derailed his personal goal of running the New York City Marathon, and how amazing the musicians, patrons, and volunteers are in our community (but this we already know 😉). She may have gotten her start as a founding member of Florida Studio Theatre's Improv Troupe, but that led to Christine Alexander starting her own company called Laugh to Feel Good, through which, using comedy and improvisational skills and games, she runs corporate team building and hosts comedy wellness programs for Parkinson's and cancer patients.
After 20 years on the Suncoast, Christine uses her podcast episode to bid adieu to her beloved Sarasota as she follows her husband to Albany, NY. But don't worry, Christine is reimagining Laugh to Feel Good to reach an even larger audience in the coming days. She's here to tell her story of finding comedy, falling in love with making people laugh, and harnessing the power of laughter for healing and leadership training. He taught music in the public schools of West Virginia for 38 years before finding the cultural scene of the Suncoast too good to pass up. Since moving here in 2015, he has become the piano accompanist at Sunnyside Village Retirement Community, the Sarasota Jewish Chorale, director of music ministry at St. Andrew United Church of Christ in Sarasota, performs with the Players Center for Performing Arts, is on the board of the Sarasota Ballet, attends every cultural arts performance in town, AND is the accompanist for Diversity: The Voices of Sarasota.
It is in that capacity that Bruce Ensinger talks to us today about the mission of Diversity, how singers can be a part of this "more than music" choir, and their concert plans for the 2021-2022 season.
