On this episode of the Stronger After Stroke podcast, we speak with Sofya Kuznetsov, M.D., cardiac electrophysiologist, Norton Heart & Vascular Institute. She helps us understand why, after surviving a stroke, a patient might be referred for a heart health evaluation.

Dr. Kuznetsov specializes in abnormal heart rhythms, called cardiac arrhythmias, including atrial fibrillation. She and her team support patients with heart rhythm disorders with a variety of treatments, including cardiac ablations and devices that are implanted and monitored, like pacemakers and defibrillators.

Rosa Hart, BSN, R.N., SCRN, a stroke nurse navigator for Norton Healthcare, hosts the discussion.

In this episode, our guest is Rachel Busse, M.D., a board-certified family medicine and integrative medicine physician. She is a member of the American Academy of Family Practice and is head of integrative medicine for Norton Healthcare. Dr. Busse leads Norton Healthcare’s annual Integrative Health & Wellness Symposium continuing medical education session for physicians, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, nurses and other clinical personnel and caregivers.

Dr. Bussee will address important questions around natural approaches to preventing stroke and when medication is needed, including:

  1. Why does someone need to have a primary care provider and a neurologist if they have had a stroke?
  2. “Why do I have to take all this medicine? Is there a ‘natural’ solution?”
  3. Common stroke medications and herbal supplements that interact with medications.
  4. How to prevent stroke through eating nutritiously, such as the Mediterranean diet.
