Entrepreneurs are often looking for a list of talents to cultivate in order to be successful, to stand out. If there are others doing what I’m doing, one of us has to lose, right?
Nope. The best talents to have are the ones you’ve got. You can be imitated, but not duplicated. What can you uniquely do with your talented team to deliver transformations to the clients you serve? What if you showed up every time steeped head to toe in your strengths?

Lead With Your Strengths
Startup to Stellar
12/02/21 • 17 min
Part of my mission as a leadership coach is to help business owners use their strengths to lead. In my experience, many entrepreneurs focus on the mechanics of management, while ignoring leadership until they have no choice but to address it. I don’t want that for you.
Leadership is inspiration: motivating others to invest in your vision to make it a reality.
By contrast, management is preparation: directing others to meet specific goals.
Your strengths and talents can reveal your unique leadership style and how you want to show up as a thought leader in your industry.
Exploring and refining your CEO style means releasing the distraction of what others are doing and instead, doubling down on yourself.
What could you gain by making your leadership development a priority?
What if you’re ready to lead in this moment?
What if leadership looks exactly like you, as you are? What if you don’t need anything else?
If you want to attract and retain truly great team members, think about how you can curate an environment that centers and really honors strengths. But how?
- Get clear on your talents and what lights you up.
- Think about the behaviors and talents that have helped you succeed in the past. What evidence do you have of your leadership in action?
- What’s holding you back? What do you need to step into leadership?
You already have what it takes to go from good to great.

Culture is Karma
Startup to Stellar
12/02/21 • 17 min
You want your business culture to be positive, clear, and in alignment with the talent you attract as well as the short and long-term goals for you and your business. Culture is karma. Whatever you’re seeding now will come back to roost. Culture can include your processes and procedures, mindset, stories, and goals. It’s something that’s born at the same time as your business, not to be cultivated later.
What can you do to actively manage and shape your culture?
- Ask for feedback in an open, receptive way.
- Take it seriously, but not defensively.
- Open your eyes and ears. Observe and interact with your team.
- Connect and co-create with your team.
- Use your unique strengths to assess and shape culture.
What do you really care about? How do you want it to show up? What do you want to create with your business? What’s the gap between where you are now and where you want to be?

Bad Boss Energy
Startup to Stellar
12/02/21 • 9 min
Honesty time... Think about the worst boss you’ve ever had. Were you micromanaged, ignored, were your talents underutilized and unappreciated? A lot of entrepreneurs leave crappy bosses to start their own businesses. What if you end up being the same crappy boss in your own business?
Leadership and management are different, but both necessary. Leadership is tied to influence and motivating others to add value to the company. Management is about controlling an individual or group to achieve specific goals. You may be doing both, or just one or the other.
What does your team have to say about your leadership, management, and play? Have you asked them? Where are some areas for improvement and growth? In my work with clients, we really focus on building clarity about what lights you up and identify strategies that allow you to incorporate more of the work you love into your activity.
Being a great boss means finding your lane, staying in it, and working in your genius to do the work that only you can do.

Leaders Look Like You
Startup to Stellar
12/02/21 • 14 min
What does leadership in its highest form look like to you? What do you think you need to have in your wheelhouse to build and run a successful business? Do you have some strengths envy going on?
Many entrepreneurs will try to replicate other businessowners in order to duplicate their success. Leadership isn’t monolithic, and your style isn’t either.
Knowing and understanding your personality toolkit is absolutely essential. That’s why I’ve developed a CEO Style Quiz to help give you more insight. There are 4 CEO style types:
- Builder - gets things done by taking action.
- Backer - uses charisma and a key message
- Bestie - forges authentic relationships
- Brainiac - inspired by ideas and information

Understand Your Talents
Startup to Stellar
12/02/21 • 26 min
So, what are strengths? Your strengths are your natural talents, the things that you organically know how to do. They can help or hinder us if we’re not intentional about how we use them. My technique for getting clearer about your strengths is what I call the CEO Method.
Clarify: Get clear about what you do best and be honest and open about how they show up for you.
Explore: Explore your talents. Are you judgy about the things you do well? Do you have strengths envy?
Optimize: How can you apply your strengths for the greatest benefit for yourself, your clients, and your team? How can you do more of those and release those that aren’t in your wheelhouse?
You might find that you’re good at some things that you despise doing, and that’s okay. This is where you can choose to do less of those things and do some hiring.
That said, it’s really common to be drawn to people that are just like you - what I like to call mini-me syndrome. If someone you hire is too like you, they aren’t in the position to take over the tasks you want to release.
Focusing on your zone of genius is a win for you, your team, and your clients. An understanding of yourself is essential for becoming an incredible leader.
