Rachel O'Brien: Lymphoma and the Itsy Bitsy Spider
starTEDover's podcast
07/08/20 • 20 min
My guest today is Rachel O’Brien, who shares her story of climbing up to a “perfect life”,” being washed out with lymphoma, and the lessons of the Itsy Bitsy Spider.
Rachel started her professional life as a travel agent in Adelaide, South Australia in 1990. For 20 years she tirelessly worked her way up the corporate ladder and in early 2010, she was appointed Executive General Manager of Flight Centre Australia - responsible for $7B in sales, $200M profit and 7,000 people. This same year, she married the love of her life, Shannon O'Brien. Within months of the promotion and the dream wedding, life would take an unexpected turn when she was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkins lymphoma, a life threatening illness.
This triggered a complete life change - an awakening into the ongoing journey to discover her true purpose.
In the last 10 years since achieving remission from her illness and leaving Flight Centre, Rachel has embarked on a remarkable healing journey of physical, emotional and spiritual growth and discovery.
Studying shamanic healing, nutrition, meditation, yogic sexuality and most recently, made a number of trips to Mallorca to study with a Kundalini Yoga master to become a qualified teacher.
Her working life now is spent facilitating her signature workshops - Invincible leadership and Goddess in the Boardroom, working 1 on 1 mentoring others to their full potential and as a non-executive director. And she does a bit of yoga teaching too.
Rachel considers herself a work in progress - growing, opening and learning what it is to be fully alive.

Gretchen Shanks - From Shame to Worthiness
starTEDover's podcast
09/30/20 • 20 min
My guest on starTEDover today is Gretchen Shanks, who shares her story of living through decades of sexual shame before learning how to celebrate her own worthiness.
Gretchen Shanks (she/her) is a Seattle-based sex and dating coach certified in the Somatica Method, an experiential and practical method of coaching grounded in the body.
Up until her early 40s, Gretchen struggled with dating, had only had sex a handful of times, and felt undesirable and unattractive. Years of talk therapy couldn’t shift the beliefs she had about herself. Then she got help from an intimacy coach and somatic body worker. She reset her body image issues, learned to confidently tap into her sexy side, and to approach dating, sex and all of her relationships with greater ease and enjoyment.
Now she gets great satisfaction helping others rewrite their stories around sex, intimacy, dating, and relationships to have the kind of experiences and connections they’ve always wanted. Regardless of what your relationship goal is (monogamous marriage, polyamory, a single life with lots of dating fun, or anything in between), Gretchen is excited to help you get there!
Gretchen can be found on Instagram @gretchen.shanks and at her website www.gretchenshanks.com.

Kirk Westwood - Pushing To Be the Best
starTEDover's podcast
09/15/20 • 20 min
My guest today on starTEDover is Kirk Westwood, who shares his story of pushing to be the best, which led to tremendous pain, and then learning to follow what he loved, which led to tremendous healing.
Diagnosed with an illness they said would kill him, Kirk Westwood turned to doing things he didn’t understand: Extreme Shamanic practices and rituals from around the world that fundamentally changed him as a person.
Studying at the feet of several masters for many years to develop skills that dramatically altered the course of his life. He reluctantly kept being drawn back to the honing of an acute intuition to read people and situations.
Not wanting to be a healer and enamored by the exploits of close friends who were elite military operators, he did the ultimate run-away and joined the Army.
It was there, embedded with an Australian Special Forces Unit to train up for Selection that he observed the all too common occurrence of Special Forces Operators (SAS, Commando's, SEAL's, Delta units) experiencing extreme luck in dire combat situations.
After a live-fire training accident ate away the cornea in his left eye months before deployment, he focused his skills into forging a trainable dynamic to create what looks like luck. A "Bubble of Luck" if you will.
His impetus was then to travel the world documenting extreme rituals and practices to understand the common thread of these practices that miraculously change lives.
Becoming an expert with thousands of hours in reading people and situations effectively and in what cultures do around the world to create what looks like good fortune, the journey continues.
Now companies, organizations and sports teams have used his skills to make/raise millions of dollars, successfully pivot technologies and create winning teams as a direct result of him creating luck for them.
