The Rise of Skywalker trailer watched record times (cinemablend.com)

  • In its first day of availability, the first Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker trailer was watched more than 111 million times. That’s 20 million more views than what The Last Jedi’s teaser trailer and more than double the views that The Force Awakens’ teaser trailer got in its first 24 hours back in late November of 2014.
  • In terms of how the Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker trailer has been faring overall since it premiered, it received 87 million views through YouTube views alone from various channels, which outpaces Rogue One’s 87 million, but still lags behind The Force Awakens’ 103 million and The Last Jedi’s 119 million. There isn’t any data on how it’s done on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram views, but Deadline’s report also mentions that even if you just look at the YouTube performance, the preview is going viral “like crazy.”

A little Toys “R” Us is coming back (Toy News)

  • The New York Post reports that Tru Kids Brands – a licensing firm formed last year by creditors of the ill-fated Toys R Us – plans to open a handful of US stores in time for the Christmas shopping season.
  • These smaller stores will span about 10,000 square feet each, a radical downsizing from the some 600 stores that were shuttered last year, which typically occupied 20,000 to 50,000 square feet.
  • “We are a little start-up company now,” said Tru Kids chief executive Richard Barry. Barry had not commented on where the new stores will open.
  • Controlled by the investment firms Angelo Gordon and Solus Alternative Asset Management, Tru Kids owns both the Toys R Us and Babies R Us brands, as well as the rights to Geoffrey the Giraffe.
  • The Toy R Us brand still operates more than 900 stores across Asia and Europe. Tru Kids said it will open 70 more stores overseas this year. In the US, Tru Kids operated Geoffrey’s Toy Box pop-up stores inside 600 Kroger grocery stores during the holidays.

Dooku: Jedi Lost (audio novel) is out on Tuesday (jedinews.co.uk)

Dark Side Spirits

Canon currently says no: The Sith were unable to manifest themselves after death, causing them to concentrate on gaining earthly power only.[1] One Sith, the Presence, was able to preserve part of her conscious essence so long as it was bound to an object like a Sith holocron.[10] Another, Lord Momin, had part of his consciousness preserved in his mask.

Bob Iger: Star Wars Slowdown (THR)

Many believe Disney should pump the breaks and not put out a Star Wars movie each year.

I made the timing decision, and as I look back, I think the mistake that I made — I take the blame — was a little too much, too fast. You can expect some slowdown, but that doesn’t mean we’re not going to make films. J.J. [Abrams] is busy making [Episode] IX. We have creative entities, including [Game of Thrones creators David] Benioff and [D.B.] Weiss, who are developing sagas of their own, which we haven’t been specific about. And we are just at the point where we’re going to start making decisions about what comes next after J.J.’s. But I think we’re going to be a little bit more careful about volume and timing. And the buck stops here on that.

Finally, some Disneyland purists are upset that there’s going to be booze for sale in Star Wars Land.

We have to be careful we don’t let people drink and then go on Autopia. (Laughs.)

Funny. Walt did specifically say no booze at Disneyland.

Yeah, except I think Walt had a nip or two in his apartment at night. (Laughs.) I am a big believer in tradition. This just seemed like one of those traditions that if we changed it the empire wasn’t going to crumble.

Adam Driver to host 44th season premiere of SNL (Variety)

This will be Driver’s second time hosting the long-running sketch series while it will be West’s seventh appearance since 2005.

Updates on Disney’s Upcoming Streaming Service (Variety)

  • Disney CEO Bob Iger said he expects the service will be available at the end of 2019.
  • When it hits the market, the service will include upcoming theatrical releases such as a live-action remake of “Dumbo,” “Captain Marvel,” and the next Avengers sequel. There will also be several films that are made directly for the streaming service, such as a remake of “Lady and the Tramp” and the Anna Kendrick comedy “Noelle.” Original television series will draw on pre-existing Disney properties such as “Monsters Inc.” and “High School Musical.” The hope is that major Disney brands such as Pixar, Marvel, and Lucasfilm, as well as NatGeo, which the company is buying from Fox, will all contribute content to the service.
  • “Our first priority is going to be reaching our core Disney fan,” Iger said.
  • Iger suggested that Disney’s streaming service might be a lower cost option to Netflix. He noted that the company’s pricing will reflect its “lower volume” of content. There will also be some notable omissions. Some of Disney’s biggest franchises, such as “Star Wars” movies released before next year, will not be available. They have been licensed to other distributors. “The marketing will make clear that it’s not going to be on there,” said Iger. “But ‘Star Wars’ movies that come out in 2019 and later, you’ll find them there.”
  • A live-action, 10-episode “Star Wars” series from Jon Favreau will cost roughly $100 million and an adaptation of the book “Timmy Failure” boasts a $45 million budget, according to a recent story in the New York Times.
  • New York Times: “...that makes the upcoming Star Wars series one of the most expensive TV shows of all time. To put it into context, the sixth season of Game of Thrones cost something around $10 million an episode, and its final season will cost something around $15 million. The budget for Star Trek: Discovery, which CBS used to launch its own streaming platform, was between $8 and $8.5 million. The budget for Star Wars: The Last Jedi was between $200 to $250 million, and that film made more than $1.3 billion worldwide at the box office.”
  • Looking ahead, Iger said he believes that many Fox franchises and labels will be complementary to Disney’s content. The Disney chief said he was particularly excited to buy back the rights to X-Men, Deadpool, and the Fantastic Four — Marvel brands that had been licensed to the studio.

Rumor: Jon Favreau’s Live Action Series to Focus on Mandalorians (MakingStarWars)

  • Rumors on Jon Favreau’s live action Star Wars television series have been circulating lately. It is still pretty early to firmly confirm much of this with 100% accurate faith. So please consider this a rumor for now that we have heard from sources who have panned out in the past. For the last few months, we keep hearing the same rumors and the rumors consist of the same general information and the same general beliefs.
  • Sources believe Jon Favreau’s Star Wars live action series, which is set around three years after Return of the Jedi is about the planet Mandalore. It sounds like when the Empire falls, Mandalore fal...
