Make a choice to make a change
04/01/22 • 40 min
PODCAST INTERVIEW WITH NIKKI BUSH - Award-winning Speaker and best-selling Author.
If you have a pulse you have a purpose. I just love this line from my podcast guest this week, Angelique du Toit. So what is your purpose, regardless of what you have been through in your life; what keeps you here and keeps you going?
In this episode, you will hear that fear is a force that you can either confront or run away from. You will be challenged about whether you are operating from inspiration or desperation, that you have to be in it to win it and you have to make a choice to make a change.
Angelique du Toit is a global speaker who has travelled the ups and downs of life and shares her wisdom and insights with such eloquence. She entered the world of work at the age of 14 as an apprentice hairdresser, out of necessity, coming from a background of abuse. She describes some of her crossroad moments in which she chose to do life differently, pulling her back from the brink of despair.
After her husband's sudden passing at the end of 2019, Angelique's carefully planned reality came crashing down. She was registering his death in Italy in early 2020 when the global pandemic lockdown came into force. She spent most of that year isolated and grieving alone. Her mantra, that I remember clearly from the first talk of hers that I attended, many years ago, was to be put to the test once again, under extreme conditions: You win or you lose by the way that you choose.
Listen, learn and be inspired by our conversation.

The Tapestry of Life
As I have reflected over this past season not only in my own life but in the world, I recognised a wonderful analogy through the creative art of weaving which I would like to share with you on this podcast.
What I enjoy most about the study of humankind, is to recognise that we are all wonderfully unique with our own stories, experiences and perceptions and filters that add different shades to our lives.
I read a beautiful quote the other day: The one thing that you have that nobody else has is YOU. Your voice. Your mind. Your story. Your vision. So write and build and draw and play and dance. And live as only you can.
When we take time to reflect and reframe, it is intriguing what picture emerges and what we can learn from the multifaceted layers of life, and the resilience that is required to rise to the life we were meant to live. That abundant life that Jesus came to give because God so loves the world! When all of the threads come together in technicolour detail, a wonderful tapestry of your life is created and it is to be enjoyed.

I mention on the podcast that Corien wrote the foreword to my book "Turn It Around". Here is a glimpse into her journey.
BY A TRAVELLER WHO CHOSE TO TAKE THE HIGHER ROAD IN LIFE...
I’ve realized that to turn your life around is a process; sometimes a long one. Whether it is a desire for transformation or an area of trouble or doubt, there is a process that you must undergo to change your perception. It definitely does not happen at first thought or overnight. For change to be permanent, you have to revolutionize the way you think. Old habits that may have worked through some stages of your life have to be replaced with new ones. It is indeed a renewal of the mind.
To form those new pathways in the brain is a daily choice. If you are willing to brave the wilderness and walk through the desert on this one, the reward will far surpass your effort. Forming new pathways creates the opportunity to believe that what may have been viewed as impossible is now possible. The process is partly challenging your own belief patterns to such an extent that you can know that what was impossible before now seems within reach, even though everything in your everyday world is screaming out that you must be crazy.
I had to fight many giants in my own neural pathways to renew my mind and create new corridors of thinking. Somewhere in all my frustration, tears and failures, there were days of breakthrough and victory. The journey demanded that I turn my perceptions around and correct my perspectives. I learned that perception is looking at a situation through man’s eyes. Therefore it is subject to change. Perspective, however, is looking at a situation through God’s eyes, and with Him, there is no shadow of turning.
Perception may seem right for us at the time, but there is always the risk of blind spots (or scotomas) keeping us from the truth. Perception can keep things hidden from you, such as truths or insights that have not been explored or that are not part of your current reality. God’s perspective changes blind spots into light spots if you adapt your mind and heart to see God’s view as the truth, instead of focusing on your own perception, you will soon have insights revealed to you. You will recognize how unfounded lies have misshaped and distorted your world.
