SOCO Pod Ep 12 Local Craft Bartender Danny Ojinaga Pivots To Nonalcoholic Cocktails
Sonoma County : A Community Portrait
11/07/22 • 129 min
Local bartender Danny Ojinaga began his career in the late 90's, pouring cheap shots at rowdy dives but grew and matured with the industry in the advent of the craft cocktail. As the co-host of bar theory podcast he mapped the local industry of craft bars and distillers and bring that community together.
But all wasn't right with Danny, behind the tall dark masculine party persona he had carefully cultivated he was sick at heart. He was cut off from the child the artist and the feminine within him. It occurred to him that he might be an alcoholic. So at 40, 20 years into bartending Danny decided to quit and become an artist. Now he is returning to the industry introducing craft non-alcoholic cocktails and the new Danny O!
We talk classic cocktails, inventing new ones, working bar, persona and identity, father figures, trauma, toxic masculinity, leaving your old self and old life, healing and becoming whole. A very beautiful episode.
