Frank King is a suicide prevention comedian--wait, is that a punchline?

Frank King is a suicide prevention comedian, this may seem like the punchline of an off-humor joke, but that is exactly what he does. Frank uses humor and levity to bring a little talked about subject to light. By spreading suicide prevention awareness, Frank is saving lives.

Comedians have been around for ages, even medieval court jesters took on the job of humorously speaking the truth to the powerful on behalf of the powerless. Depression can make one feel powerless, so Frank brings a voice to those in his audience that feel they are fighting their battle alone.

Suicide and depression are no joking matter, but Frank is not only familiar with depression and suicide, he lives with the effects of mental illness each day. Depression and suicide run in Frank’s family: he lost both his mother and grandmother to depression and has been suicidal himself. Frank has been diagnosed with generational depressive disorder and chronic suicidal ideation. Since he speaks from experience, Frank can speak honestly and openly in a way that everyone can understand.

Becoming a TEDx speaker isn’t easy but it’s worth it

With 6 TEDx talks under his belt, Frank King knows a thing or two about the platform. He realized that he could use his experience with TEDx talks to help others. Frank became a TEDx talk coach to help people through the complicated application process.

The TEDx application is such a challenging process that many can’t even figure out where to apply. Frank walks his clients through this process and then assists them further by helping them formulate their pitches.

TEDx is all about education, so Frank helps his clients articulate their lesson objectives and come up with the action items that the audience will take away from the speech.

TEDx is an amazing springboard for other public speaking gigs, so after presenting their TEDx talk, Frank helps his clients expand their 12-18 minute speech into a 45-minute keynote speech that they can use anywhere.

5 Weeks to Writing a Bestseller with Ben Gioia, Ep #53

Do you think you could write a bestselling book in only 5 weeks? If you’ve listened to the show before, you know that I am writing a book so when I connected with Ben Gioia (pronounced Joya) via LinkedIn I knew there was plenty I could learn from him.

Ben is a 3-time bestselling author who teaches others how to write their own bestsellers. He has his own proven method called Influence with a Heart. Ben has an amazing story and I know you’ll be just as excited to hear what he has to say as I am. Press play to hear his journey (which is fascinating!) and to learn how you can write your own bestseller.

The Influence with a Heart method is like having a business coach help you write your book

Ben Gioia is the real deal, not only has he written 3 bestselling books, he wrote one of them in just 3 weeks! After writing a book in 3 weeks he realized that this was a skill that others would want to learn which is why he created the Influence with a Heart method. Ben believes that anyone can write a book. His process is like having a business coach help you write your book.

How the Influence with a Heart process works

The first step in the process is to establish your audience. Do you already have an audience? You’ll want to ensure that you know exactly who your target audience is so that you know how to make an impact in their lives. Once you clarify what your business is then it will be easier to understand who your target client is and how you can help them.

The purpose of writing your book is to establish yourself as a thought leader and an expert in your field. This book will allow you to share your story in an authentic way that aligns with what you do. You’ll be able to transform readers into clients so that you can continue to serve them with excellence.

Overcome the obstacles that stand in your way

The next thing that you’ll want to do is overcome your fears. There are so many obstacles that can get in the way of finishing a book. Many people become overwhelmed with the publishing process even before the book is written. Added to that, people struggle with self-worth, procrastination, judgment, shame, and fear. What is holding you back from writing your book?

Once you get over the stories that you tell yourself, it’s time to get on a schedule and get this book written. Ben helps you get on a schedule that has you working on your book for 66 minutes a day 5 days a week for 6 weeks.

Do you think you could do it? Could you actually write a book in 6 weeks? You won’t know unless you try!

Listen in to discover Ben’s story. You won’t want to miss his death-defying stories in India. Then stick around to hear if Ben’s method could help you get started. His process sounds like it could work not only for writing a book but for many other areas of business as well. I know you’ll want to leave a 5-star review after listening to this episode.

Do you include everything you need to in your contracts with your clients? A contract not only protects you and your client but it can also make a powerful first impression.

On this episode of Solopreneur Money, William Warren joins me to discuss the importance of creating contracts. You’ll learn why it is important to have a contract in place as well as what you should include in your contracts.

William learned that starting a business wasn’t as scary as he thought

William Warren is the founder and CEO of The Sketch Effect, a creative services company that delivers animated and illustrated communication products to a wide range of clients. When William struck out on his own to build his business he had no experience or training in the business world. He had to figure out the businessy stuff all on his own. Once he got over the initial fear of starting his own business he realized that becoming an entrepreneur wasn’t as hard as he thought it would be and doing what he loves for a living is fun.

3 reasons to use a contract

Contracts are one of the areas of business that many creatives shy away from. They may think that they don’t need one or that they are too hard to create, so before we discuss how to write a contract let’s first understand why we need one.

The first reason to create a contract is the most obvious. A contract defines the scope of the work and the price. The client learns what they are getting and how much it costs.

The next reason to use a contract is to set protections or limits. By establishing your limits you will prevent scope creep so that clients won’t continue to ask you to do 'just' one more thing.

A contract also helps you to seal the deal with your client. A well-made contract will turn a potential client into a client.

8 important things to include in your contract
  1. Be abundantly clear about the scope of work. Describe what the client is getting, but also make it clear what they are not getting. Make sure to recap the deliverables in plain English.
  2. Explain your process. What steps will you take to deliver the product? Establish your process upfront to set expectations.
  3. Define when the client will receive the service. This not only gives limitations but it establishes clear boundaries around the time spent on your service.
  4. Define the clients’ rights, usage, and exclusivity. State how the client can use the product or service and when they can and can’t use it.
  5. Be clear on how much the client will pay and be sure to charge according to your value.
  6. Explain how they will pay you.
  7. Establish when they will pay you
  8. Create a space to sign and date the contract.

It is also important to make your contract look polished so that the client understands that they are working with a professional. A clear, well-made contract will entice future clients to sign and bring in more business.

William Warren shares so much value in this interview. You won’t want to miss all that he has to say. Make sure to listen in to learn from his experience. If you found this episode helpful make sure to share this podcast with other solopreneurs to keep it growing.
