Ep. 281: It’s Not Good ‘By’ in Werribee
Socially Democratic
02/13/25 • 54 min
On a cloudy day in Melbourne’s West, campaign workers in clashing t-shirts formed lines outside of schools and community centres. Residents, who often suffer from congested roads, this time navigated foot traffic on their way to the voting booth.
February 8th, 2025 was the day of the Werribee by-election. It came after long-serving Labor MP, Tim Pallas announced his retirement - kicking off Labor’s first real pressure test of the year.
Stephen Donnelly sits down with seasoned pollster and campaign researcher, John Armitage, for a spirited discussion about why the Werribee by-election matters, and what Labor can learn from this moment as they rise to meet the challenges of 2025.

Ep.140: 2022 Federal Election Recap with Emma Dawson & David Feeney - Week 5 - 9 days to go
Socially Democratic
05/12/22 • 68 min
Dunn Street founder and Community Organiser Stephen Donnelly was joined by Executive Director for Per Capita, Emma Dawson, and former Federal Member for Batman, David Feeney, for Socially Democratic’s weekly recap of the 2022 federal election campaign.
Once again Emma and David dive into the week that was, starting with the final two leader debates (or lack thereof), unpacking channel 9 and 7’s coverage, the lack of moderation, the schmozzle of a voting service provided by channel 9, the post debate debacles, and key takeaways from both leaders.
They consider how the cost of living and wages narrative will shape the final days of the campaign, unpack the latest run of campaign ads from both major parties, and look at the latest polls and consider the impact Palmer United Party could have on election day in battleground seats.
Emma and David will return next week for the final installment of Federal Election Campaign Recaps before E-Day. If you have a question for Emma or David, post it on Dunn Street’s Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, or Linkedin.
