Zachariah had been silenced for over nine months. When he finally spoke, these words flowed forth. A song of praise and prophecy.
As you meditate on these words from long ago, allow the Spirit to bring them life in your soul. We should expect this to happen with the living and active Word.
We will enter this passage prayerfully and expectantly using the Lectio Divina Scripture meditation method. As you allow the Spirit to lead, you may be surprised by what he has for you.

God designed every detail about you – from the color of your hair to the texture of your toenails.
He knows if cilantro tastes like soap or not.
And if you recharge best when you’re alone or at a party.
Sometimes we wonder if God made a mistake when he wove together our DNA.
Psalm 139 assures us he didn’t.
God not only created you and knows you, but he also deeply loves you.
Perhaps you need to be reminded of this truth.
Take a few minutes to meditate on Psalm 139:1-6 and contemplate how God created you and watches over you. As you let the Spirit guide you, you may be surprised what he has for you in this passage.
We are meditating on Psalm 139 using the Lectio Divina method – a simple way to prayerfully hear God’s Word. 3 You discern my going out and my lying down; you are familiar with all my ways.
4 Before a word is on my tongue you, Lord, know it completely.
5 You hem me in behind and before, and you lay your hand upon me.

Good Friday is the darkest and most solemn day on the Christian calendar. Yet, because of Jesus’s sacrifice—a sacrifice that changes everything—it truly becomes good.

In this Scripture meditation, we step into the scene at the cross, where Jesus is crucified between two criminals. We witness the reactions of those around Him—the mocking soldiers, the mourning crowd, the two criminals beside Him. And in the midst of it all, we hear Jesus’s powerful words of grace and forgiveness:

"Father, forgive them, for they don’t know what they are doing."

Even in His suffering, Jesus extends mercy.

Through this Good Friday meditation, you’ll be invited to:

  • Enter the scene and observe those around the cross.
  • Reflect on the words and actions of Jesus.
  • Sit at the foot of the cross and thank Him for what He endured for you.

Take a moment to pause, reflect, and let the weight of this day settle in. As you listen, may you encounter Jesus’s love, grace, and mercy in a deeper way.

Luke 23:32-43, NLT

Two others, both criminals, were led out to be executed with (Jesus). When they came to a place called The Skull, they nailed him to the cross. And the criminals were also crucified—one on his right and one on his left.

Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they don’t know what they are doing.” And the soldiers gambled for his clothes by throwing dice.

The crowd watched and the leaders scoffed. “He saved others,” they said, “let him save himself if he is really God’s Messiah, the Chosen One.” The soldiers mocked him, too, by offering him a drink of sour wine. They called out to him, “If you are the King of the Jews, save yourself!” A sign was fastened above him with these words: “This is the King of the Jews.”

One of the criminals hanging beside him scoffed, “So you’re the Messiah, are you? Prove it by saving yourself—and us, too, while you’re at it!”

But the other criminal protested, “Don’t you fear God even when you have been sentenced to die? We deserve to die for our crimes, but this man hasn’t done anything wrong.” Then he said, “Jesus, remember me when you come into your Kingdom.”

And Jesus replied, “I assure you, today you will be with me in paradise.”

We long for pain-free, grief-free days. Days that are filled with only good things.

The problem is - those days never seem to come. There is always pain, death, and destruction. The effects of sin have left their mark on our world and our lives.

It can be easy to lose hope, especially when we read the news. Will it ever end?

Yes, it will. Revelation 21 tells the end of the story – or rather, the new beginning. A day of restoration. A day when the enemy is finally defeated. There is no more death, mourning, crying, or pain. The old order of things will pass away.

As you meditate on this hope-filled passage, allow the Lord to help you notice what he has for you in these words. Once you’ve listened to this Scripture Meditation podcast, don’t miss the bonus conversation with Scot McKnight on his book Revelation for the Rest of Us. (Podcast releases 8/2/23). We talk about all things Revelation - including how Scot believes Revelation should be read.

Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and the sea was no more. 2 And I saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. 3 And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Behold, the dwelling place of God is with man. He will dwell with them, and they will be his people, and God himself will be with them as their God. 4 He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.

Richella Parham is the author of Mythical Me: Finding Freedom from Constant Comparison. She also co-host’s the Friends in Formation podcast and serves as a member of the Ministry Team for Renovaré. Her heart is to help people dismantle their preconceived myths about identity and worth as a way to help them clear a path for surrendering to our compassionate God. Take a few minutes to meditate on John 21 and then tune into this interview to hear where God led Richella. Some highlights from our conversation: God’s encouragement to Richella that she can be presumptuous with him – when it comes to him always meeting her with grace and love. No matter what. What the Lord helped her notice about Peter’s “more than” confidence before he denied Jesus and how Jesus reframed this with his questions to Peter about loving him “more than.” That even though it must have been really important for Peter to know what would happen to John, Jesus said he didn’t need to know. What was most important was following God – not worrying about others. How Richella used to create a “mythical” woman in her head that was the best of everyone – and how God invited her to let go of and reframe this tendency to one that celebrates the attributes of others instead of envying them. (Friends, don’t miss this part of our conversation. It’s so helpful and good!) John 21:15-22, NIV *Note a few words have been removed from v. 20 to keep the passage focused on Peter 15 When they had finished eating, Jesus said to Simon Peter, “Simon son of John, do you love me more than these?” “Yes, Lord,” he said, “you know that I love you.” Jesus said, “Feed my lambs.” 16 Again Jesus said, “Simon son of John, do you love me?” He answered, “Yes, Lord, you know that I love you.” Jesus said, “Take care of my sheep.” 17 The third time he said to him, “Simon son of John, do you love me?” Peter was hurt because Jesus asked him the third time, “Do you love me?” He said, “Lord, you know all things; you know that I love you.” Jesus said, “Feed my sheep. 18 Very truly I tell you, when you were younger you dressed yourself and went where you wanted; but when you are old you will stretch out your hands, and someone else will dress you and lead you where you do not want to go.” 19 Jesus said this to indicate the kind of death by which Peter would glorify God. Then he said to him, “Follow me!” 20 Peter turned and saw that the disciple whom Jesus loved was following them. ... 21 When Peter saw him, he asked, “Lord, what about him?” 22 Jesus answered, “If I want him to remain alive until I return, what is that to you? You must follow me.”

Jesus fell asleep in the middle of a raging storm. The disciples saw the waves crashing in, and as the water filled the boat, they became fearful, even accusatory. They woke Jesus and demanded an answer.

Jesus, don’t you care if we drown?

Jesus calmed the storm with these power-packed words.

Peace. Be Still.

Words spoken over nature, but also spoken over our hearts.

As you listen to this guided meditation, you will be given space to talk to God about what is bringing you fear and allow him space to calm your fears with his peace and stillness.

The passage we meditated on in this episode is:

Mark 4:35-42, NLT

35 As evening came, Jesus said to his disciples, “Let’s cross to the other side of the lake.” 36 So they took Jesus in the boat and started out, leaving the crowds behind (although other boats followed). 37 But soon a fierce storm came up. High waves were breaking into the boat, and it began to fill with water.

38 Jesus was sleeping at the back of the boat with his head on a cushion. The disciples woke him up, shouting, “Teacher, don’t you care that we’re going to drown?”

39 When Jesus woke up, he rebuked the wind and said to the waves, “Silence! Be still!” Suddenly the wind stopped, and there was a great calm. 40 Then he asked them, “Why are you afraid? Do you still have no faith?”

41 The disciples were absolutely terrified. “Who is this man?” they asked each other. “Even the wind and waves obey him!”
