Sirens, Slammers and Service is kicking off SEASON 3 with an absolute legend!! Shirley Benson became the first woman EVER to work as a firefighter in Edmonton and throughout her over 30 year career, she moved up through the ranks to become a district chief. A first for so many milestones as a female, being a trailblazer is nothing new for this awarded Global Woman of Vision!!
But, to be clear, Benson has never looked at herself with the term ‘female firefighter.’

“I’m a firefighter who is female. First and foremost, I was a city of Edmonton firefighter, before all else that’s who I am at the core even. And then just secondary to that it just happens that I’m a woman as well. So, that’s how I look at it.”
