Never has a city in history been liberated without slaughtering or killing of some kind. Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) conquered Mecca humble and grateful to Allah for a victory that he gave him. He answered to Abu Sufyan when he asked what will he do with them now that he has conquered the city. He replied quoting Prophet Joseph and the reply he gave his brothers: "There is no blame upon you today". He forgave them and Mecca was liberated. That is Muhammad (pbuh), the Mercy to the Worlds.
