Side One/Side B with Dave and Steve
Side One/Side B with Dave & Steve
A punk and a metalhead started a podcast because they want to show each other records and they both have ADHD and need to make the other listen to and now they're going to make you listen to them. Side One/Side B with Dave & Steve is a podcast put together with two bandmates with ADHD who have a similar Venn diagram of music tastes, but Dave comes at it from the punk perspective and Steve from the heavy metal perspective. It’s kind of like crossfire, except we don’t hate each other, or make Jon Stewart sad.

SEASON 1 FINALE! CAN YOU SMELL THE HAIRSPRAY? Steve tests the limits of his friendships by making 3 punks listen to overblown hair metal album DEF LEPPARD, PYROMANIA (1983)
Side One/Side B with Dave and Steve
11/12/24 • 73 min
Pyromania is the third studio album by English rock band Def Leppard, released on 20 January 1983[2] through Vertigo Records in UK and Europe and through Mercury Records in the US. The first album to feature guitarist Phil Collen who replaced founding member Pete Willis, Pyromania was produced by Robert John "Mutt" Lange. The album was a shift away from the band's traditional heavy metal roots toward a more radio-friendly sound, finding massive mainstream success. Pyromania charted at No. 2 on the Billboard 200,
The album was partially recorded with original guitarist Pete Willis, whose rhythm guitar tracks appear on all songs. On 11 July 1982, Willis was fired for alcohol abuse and replaced by guitarist Phil Collen, who contributed solos and guitar parts not yet recorded by Willis.[8]
The album can be seen as a transitional one between the heavy metal sound of Leppard's first two albums and the radio-friendly direction of later releases.[10] It featured rockers such as "Rock! Rock! (Till You Drop)", "Stagefright" and "Die Hard the Hunter" as well as the Top 40 hits "

Harakiri is the third studio album by System of a Down frontman Serj Tankian. It was released on July 10, 2012.
Tankian has described the album as "the most up-tempo punk rock oriented record that I've written probably since the System days." In the same interview, he also confirmed that a 2013 world tour would likely follow in support of the album.[3]
Hara-kiri, also known as seppuku, is a term for the ritual 'honour' suicide of Japanese samurai, with the former term being more common in speech and the latter being more literary, upper-class, and formal. The act involves self-disembowelment with a tantō (a Japanese-style dagger originating in the Heian period), slicing the abdomen from left to right. The album explores ideas of animal suicide.

#6 | Dave brings in a highly influential electronic album FROM 1983, THE CRACKDOWN by English group CABARET VOLTAIRE
Side One/Side B with Dave and Steve
06/09/24 • 33 min
Dave brings in THE CRACKDOWN by CARBARET VOLTAIRE, and English electronic group that made really cool and experimental electronic music and were a very early pioneer in ELECTRONIC, DANCE, INDUSTRIAL, POST-PUNK, ACID HOUSE, & TECHNO. Additionally, we discuss how it features some parallels to some of the emerging hip-hop artists coming up across the pond at the same time, that we assume is coincidental.
This album was released in 1983 and is the first album that followed CHRIS WATSON's departure from the group, which results in an album that was somewhat more conventional that their past released, but still cold, disturbing, and alienating.

WHEN OUR PODCAST PASSED OUT ON THE COUCH! We give WILD GIFT (1981) by punk rock band X the once over twice!
Side One/Side B with Dave and Steve
10/29/24 • 71 min
Wild Gift is the second studio album by American rock band X, released on May 6, 1981,[1][2] by Slash Records. It was very well received critically, and was voted the year's second best album in The Village Voice's Pazz & Jop poll. Wild Gift was later ranked at number 334 on Rolling Stone magazine's list of the 500 greatest albums of all time.
Wild Gift showcases the band's unique punk rock style, which infuses roots rock, country, blues, R&B, and rockabilly.
The track "White Girl" was sampled by the Red Hot Chili Peppers on their 1989 album Mother's Milk, in the song "Good Time Boys".[3] The Chili Peppers song's lyrics mentioned X's John Doe specifically, "whose voice is made of gold". - Wikipedia

The Glorious Burden is the seventh studio album by the American power metal band Iced Earth. It is a concept album, which explores various moments in military history, such as the signing of the Declaration of Independence, the American Revolutionary War, and Waterloo. It also pays tribute to world events such as World War I, the World Trade Center attacks and the ravages of Attila the Hun. See the track list for links to the historical context of the songs.
The album includes a trilogy entitled Gettysburg (1863). Each of the three songs represents one day in the Battle of Gettysburg, the largest battle ever conducted in the Western Hemisphere and considered the turning point in the American Civil War. - Wikipedia

For those following along at home, this is the excellent remastered version we listened to by Arlo Boska. If you are following along with us, pause after Tattered & Torn at timestamp 21:43
This is Slipknot's technically first album, now considered a demo by the band, that does NOT feature Corey Taylor, Mick Thompson, or Jim Root, and the only member of the band that remains is percussionist Clown aka Shawn Chahan. This album does feature the same rhythm section that consisted of Joey Jordison & Paul Gray (R.I.P.) and features OG vocalist Anders Colsefni. Also on guitar is Donnie Steele, who went on to fill in on bass in their later years, and Josh "Gnar" Brainard who recorded a bulk of their first major label release before departing the band.
Listen along with us as I show my bandmates, two non-Slipknot fans who are more into punk & post-punk and not so much heavy metal and their reactions to the jazz, funk, and hip hop influences on this album
Mate. Feed. Kill. Repeat. is the first album recorded by American heavy metal band Slipknot, and their only release with original lead vocalist Anders Colsefni. The album was limited to 1,000 copies, with distribution beginning on October 31, 1996. The band sold the last 386 units through ‐ismist Recordings in 1997. The album has become sought after by fans since Slipknot's rise to fame, and original copies have sold for up to $1,000.
Despite originally being deemed Slipknot's debut album, Mate. Feed. Kill. Repeat. was later considered a demo by the band, The record was recorded in Des Moines, Iowa over a period of four months and features many musical influences including funk,

Between seasons: Dave brings in something from DAVID BOWIE he bought for record store day in 2018, a neat little live picture disc called BREAKING GLASS, an EP re-released for the 40th anniversary
Side One/Side B with Dave and Steve
12/09/24 • 17 min
The E.P. now features ‘BREAKING GLASS’, ‘ART DECADE’, ‘HANG ON TO YOURSELF’ and ‘ZIGGY STARDUST’ live from Earls Court in London during the Isolar II tour of 1978. These four tracks are alternative performances to the ones that recently appeared on the critically acclaimed live album WELCOME TO THE BLACKOUT (LIVE LONDON ’78), and none were featured on the original 1978 E.P..
Initially released in the UK in January 1977 on the groundbreaking LOW album, ‘BREAKING GLASS’ was co- written by Bowie, bassist George Murray and drummer Dennis Davis. A longer, reworked version of the song was a staple of the Isolar II Tour, and a live version from that tour was used as the lead track on the original live 7" E.P. to promote Bowie's second live album, STAGE in 1978.
