Sharing Our Stories

Our guest is Josie Burton. Originally from Chicago, she came to Colorado when she was 17 with her little baby. She was on the run for telling on people during cases and being addicted to drugs. When she was 19 she got community corrections for 7 years. The Harris family took her in and was a god sent family that taught her a lot. She was given 24 hours to make a decision and the Harris's told her she could do it and make it through the struggle. Its been a long road but now Josie sees her work coming to fruition by being at TV stations and radio stations telling her story. Random kids and adults coming up to her letting her know that she inspired them to come out and share there story. For along time Josie thought she could do it all by herself but she realized she needed God behind her to help her defeat and conquerall her obstacles in front of her. Raising nine boys now and being a strong black woman in recovery to be an example for her community she is now the founder of NXTChapter organization where she helps the community (convicts, addicts, ect.) re-integrate back in to society.
"You got to believe in yourself, it's going to be hard work, you have to want it!"

Our guest is Denae Garcia from Thornton,CO.T-TOWN!!. She is a very emotional person and keeps alot of emotions to herself. Her friends called her "Deebo" because she was in and out of Jail, always fighting, always getting in to some kind of trouble. She was a single mom so the state got involved and she was on the verge of losing her kids. Her sister was able to introduce her to church where it really helped her get back her old life and the person she was and loved before the addiction. She had to cut off old friends and family who were not good for her when she needed help most.
Today, she is 3 years clean on her journey in recovery. Now she works with the childrens ministry in her church. She is always open to help and talk to others who need help in addiction and recovery. Her message to anyone out there who needs help or some words of advice.
"Just believe in yourself, Be honest." "Give yourself a chance, life isn't that bad."

This week our guest is Julia Valdez Albertson. Julia shares her journey from addiction to recovery. Celebrating four years in her recovery, Julia is currently the Director of Judicial Services with Tribe Recovery Homes and is known as The Queen of Downtown Denver for her work in the recovery community. Her story, like so many, is one of heartbreak. Julia has expierenced a lot of it to realize she needed to make a change.
