After returning home from frontline combat service with the Marines in the Middle East, Scotti took time off to reflect, and heal, through writing new music. He now embarks on a soul-searching road to redemption through rock and roll. His Americana style of rock combines groove-oriented riffs, lyrics inspired by his time in the military, and a message of standing tall in the face of personal hardships. His mission is to offer hope and empowerment to Veterans through the healing powers of music.

Serving the Community - Michael Allen - Together Chicago
play

05/19/21 • 22 min

Toward the end of 2016, as gun violence in Chicago reached its highest levels in 20 years, a group of Chicago area business, faith, community, non-profit, civic and government leaders met to explore the common question they asked themselves:

Is there more that can be done to address the root causes of the current level of violence we are experiencing?

They realized that though the challenges in Chicago are highly complex and have developed over decades, there are strategic actions that can be taken to create a “collective impact”. Through these conversations, the desire to form a new nonprofit organization grew and Together Chicago was born. We formally launched Together Chicago in the fall of 2017 and are currently engaged in our five areas of focus – economic development, education, violence reduction, gospel justice, and faith community mobilization.
Michael Allen is a Co-Founder of Together Chicago and serves as the Chief Strategy Officer. He was born in Kingston, Jamaica and immigrated to Fort Lauderdale, Florida with his family in 1977. In 1986 he became a naturalized U.S. citizen.

Following the loss of her husband in January, 2015, Bobbi Mason quickly realized the lack of resources available to young widows and felt an urgency to become an ambassador to young widows and those who have suffered traumatic loss. I had an amazing discussion with Jo Ann today about her missing daughter, Ali, and how she is helping other families in our community.
Jo Ann's Story
"I’ve never though about what I do is considered “serving the community” but I guess it is.

My daughter Alexandria went missing after stepping off her school bus more than 10 years ago. Never in my life would I have thought I would still be searching this long.

I’ve connected with other families over the years and found they also struggle as I do, so I formed a support group for families with a missing loved one.

I’ve had the City of Houston proclaim Ali’s birthday as Houston Missing Persons Day. And 4 years ago it is also National Missing Persons Day.

I connected with Texas EquuSearch a short time after Ali went missing and now they are like my family. My time doesn’t always allow me to physically search anymore, so now I try to fundraise for them by organizing a golf tournament."
