One of the worst Canadian railroad disasters in history occurred in the railroad town of Lac-Megantic, in Eastern Quebec, a small town with a population of just over 5,500 people. The tragedy occurred at 1:15 AM on July 6, 2013, when an unattended 74-car freight train carrying crude oil derailed in the heart of downtown Lac-Megantic spill crude oil and creating massive explosions and fires that took almost 3 days to extinguish. At the end of it, 42 people were confirmed dead, 5 missing and presumed dead, 36 of 39 downtown buildings were also totally destroyed.
Yet this disaster could have been prevented months if not decades before the event.

In the closing days of World War II, one of Patton’s final missions had to be one of the most unique and motely assorted mission operations in American military history. This operation would bring American Troops, German Wehrmacht soldiers, a multi-national Prisoner of War (POW) volunteers made up mainly of British and Polish troops just recently liberated, and Russian Prince leading his Cusack band, against the Waffen SS and Soviet Communist Red Army. This operation would be just one of two times that the American and German Wehrmacht soldiers would fight side by side. And they were fighting to save the prized Lipizzaner Stallions.

February 5th, 1958 was a clear and calm night at 1 AM just off the Atlantic coast on the border between Georgia and South Carolina. When a B-47 bomber carrying a 3.8 megaton hydrogen bomb collided with an F-86. In order to save the crew, Major Richardson ejected the bomb off the coast of Tybee Island, where it has been lost ever since.

On July 18th, 1863 the 54th Massachusetts Regiment would conduct their assault on the Confederate-held Fort Wagner. Although a small battle in the civil war, this Second Battle of Fort Wagner held greater significance as the 54th Massachusetts Regiment was comprised mainly of African American soldiers, many of whom were former slaves, like William Harvey Carney. William Harvey Carney would go on to distinguish himself in battle and ultimately be awarded the Medal of Honor for his heroism during the battle.
