Episode 13
Join your hosts Carmen and Sophia Micsa to find out how to live your life with more joy and gratitude with Louise Pistole, the author of Discover Your Joy.
Louise is a JOY fanatic! She brings her Southern charm and joyful inspiration as she encourages others to discover their own joy no matter where they are on their journey. As Louise navigated her own difficult valleys, she emerged with a strong message of joy to share with other women. Her inspiration comes alive with real-life stories of hope, love, and faith. JOY really is her superpower!

After a career of over 30 years in the financial industry, Louise made a decision to leave the business world and pursue her passion for writing. Her book, Discover Your Joy , was published in 2021. She shares her personal stories of love, laughter, holidays, kids, and grandkids, along with all the good and not-so-good that life has to offer.

Louise offers encouragement and inspiration to women worldwide through her writing, coaching, and speaking. Using both practical wisdom and Biblical truths, she guides others to seek what they are missing in life and to become the best version of themselves.

After 45 years apart, she recently reconnected with her high-school sweetheart. They married on the beach and found their joy in a vacation home on the coast. Their love story was printed in the April 2019 issue of Sasee Magazine.

Her life has come full circle and she is grateful every day!
Louise Pistole has the following advice to live a joyful life:

  • Joy and happiness are not interchangeable. Happiness is eating ice cream, for example, that makes you feel good at the moment, while joy is something that is a habit and it lives in your heart and soul.
  • Her book is filled with obviously a lot of joy and also gratitude.
  • Since Seeds of Sunshine is a multigenerational podcast, Louise believes that journaling is beneficial for all ages. The same with reading any kind of inspirational book.
  • Additionally, spending time in nature and getting outside are big contributors to one's joy.

On this Seeds of Sunshine episode:

  • Louise points out that the United States is number 16 in happiness, which is different than joy, but if we're not a happy country, we're not a joyful country.
  • Women need connections and experiences, as they bring the most joy.
  • The joy of the path and the joy of being in nature is discovering everything along the path as you go along the way. So, there are ways that all of

Episode 37
Join your hosts Carmen and Sophia Micsa to learn how yoga can increase children's self-esteem with author and illustrator Sarah Finniss.
Sarah Finniss is a 36-year-old certified yoga instructor, stretch coach, and personal trainer. She has a background in the arts and early childhood education. To add more to her accomplishments, Sarah is a newly launched children's book author and illustrator.
Her new children's book Iris' Magical Yoga Adventure invites its readers to escape with sweet Iris and her mom on an adventure into their imaginations as they explore famous landmarks around the world through yoga poses. The book isn't just about teaching the basics of yoga and mindfulness but provides an opportunity for children to learn about famous landmarks around the world through movement; engaging visual, auditory, and kinesthetic learners. It includes fun activity pages for learners to be creative and reinforce what they learned. This book plays into the mind-body connection.
On this Seeds of Sunshine episode, you will learn:

  • Building self-esteem and just finding balance when they're anxious is something that a lot of kids are looking for right now.
  • In her first book that Sarah wrote and illustrated, she hopes to inspire children to be creative in their learning.
  • How to become more inspiring to others by pursuing things that are challenging.
  • Sarah's message for children who try yoga for the first time is to just take their time with it, for certain stretches and poses work for some people and not for others.
  • Sarah remarked that when aligning movement and breath, we can change our energy by moving in different ways and also change our mindset.
  • There's a balance between the strength aspect of yoga and the letting go aspect, which means building and finding that strength within ourselves, while at the same time kind of releasing any thoughts or emotions that we don't have control over.
  • To make meditation more enjoyable, Sarah recommends paying attention to small moments, such as when you're drinking your morning coffee or tea. Feeling the heat of the mug on your hands? Or if you're running, think about your feet hitting the pavement. If you're having a conversation with someone, putting the phone down, and just making the extra effort to be fully present and give your undivided attention.

To buy Iris' Magical Yoga Adventure, please go to wherever books are sold on Amazon, bookshop.org, and more.

Join your hosts Carmen and Sophia Micsa and meet Vinnie Potestivo, an Emmy® Award-winning Media Advisor, who helps clients leverage their media exposure, find fame, and make an impact.
Vinnie is the Editor-in-chief of I Have A Podcast® and is responsible for discovering and amplifying the voice of independent podcasters worldwide. As a network executive at MTV Networks (98-07), Vinnie discovered talent and developed new ways to support their goals, pioneering the way brands and business owners could contribute to their public narrative by making them stars and producers of their own television series. Early hits include Punk’d, The Osbournes, TRL, 8th & Ocean, Wild 'N Out, & The Challenge. Since then, he and his team at VPE.tv have continued to be well-trusted connectors who develop and distribute original content across all media platforms, especially podcasts!
You can listen to Vinnie dissect the creative process with some of the stars and creatives who helped launch his career, such as Mandy Moore, Danielle Fishel, TJ Lavin, and Ananda Lewis (to name a few) on the award-winning “I Have A Podcast” audio experience, which is available everywhere you watch and listen to podcasts.
Vinnie Potestivo has the following insights to share on his personal journey and MTV network executive:

  • Discussing the concept of sharing vs. owning our story.
  • Creating content is key, since TV has more competition than ever.
  • When it comes to creativity and content creation, Vinnie loves to
  • quote Maya Angelou, who said: “the more you spend, the more you
  • have.” However, if we apply this to money, Warren Buffet is right
  • when he says: “the more you spend, the less you have.”

Seeds of Sunshine - A mother-daughter podcast - Heart Health Talk After Her Coronary Stent with Karen Kunz, Who Ran Over 90 Marathons
play

02/08/23 • 29 min

Episode 29
Join your hosts Carmen and Sophia Micsa to find out how Karen Kunz,
a nurse and runner, who ran over 90 marathons took charge of her heart health to avoid open heart surgery, even though she passed the stress test. February is heart health month and our guest has a powerful message, especially for women athletes and non-athletes.
Karen Kunz is 67 years old from the Chicago area and one of 8 children. Karen has a B.S. in Exercise Physiology and a BS in Nursing. She started running in 1974(pre-Title 9 era) as a freshman in college and received XC & Track scholarship in her last 2 years of college. When she was 39, Karen’s daughter was born “brittle bones,” which inspired her to go back to college & learn medicine. From 1982 to 1989, Karen ran for Adidas professionally. She also coached for 2 colleges & was a private coach since 1980. Karen ran her first marathon in 1979 and about 1000 races total.
Karen Kunz has practical and wise advice regarding fitness, running, and heart health:

  • Running is a microcosm of life. You need to keep going, as you never know what you can accomplish.
  • Karen ran for Adidas professionally and has been grateful for the opportunity.
  • At 67, after Karen got a coronary stent to open up her left anterior descending artery, she is still running marathons. Her next big race is the Tokyo marathon, which she will run representing her Arete team, the Sacramento branch.
  • Karen's message for all women is to trust their instincts just like she did when the stress test came back fine. She had to push for a heart flow test because she had worked with cardiac patients and knew what to ask for.
  • Getting a baseline is quite important in taking control of your health.

On this Seeds of Sunshine episode:

  • Learn to be proactive with your fitness and your health.
  • Women's heart issues manifest differently than men, so pushing for the correct tests can make the difference between making it alive or not.
  • Learn how Karen thrived after girls were allowed to play sports just like the boys.
