Season 1 | Episode 5 | Patchwerks
Science of Sound
06/01/23 • 96 min
On April 5th, 2023 Patchwerks closed for another successful day as Seattle's biggest retail, education, and community hub for everything synthesizers, modular, samplers, drum machines, and much more. I met up with Cindy Reichel and Tom Butcher after their staff meeting to sit down in the store after hours for one of the best interviews and discussions yet. Walking the show floor in almost complete silence and with no customers was like being in Wonka's Chocolate Factory for a personal tour. Both beautiful and eerie since most are used to the sounds of curiosity echoing through every corner of the building during operating hours.
Join me, Tom, and Cindy as we revisit Patchwerk's history, their own personal paths as musicians, and their impact on the electronic music community reaching around the world. Also, stick around till the end for a special gear walkthrough and performance by Tom and Cindy's collaborative project called Dahliia which only performs live and hasn't performed in many years especially due to the challenges with the 2019 Pandemic. Hey Tom, technically Episode 5 is the very first Dahliia recording!

Season 1 | Episode 4 | davis
Science of Sound
05/29/23 • 125 min
On April 1st, 2023, the mighty winds of the Inland Northwest were picking up in Deer Park Washington thrashing the rural fields around like a natural dance from nature. On this beautifully stormy Saturday, I sat down with the singer-songwriter davis in his home to talk about his 60+ years of hearing, writing, and playing music throughout his life. From his first years of curiosity of the sounds around him to his present trials and tribulations as my father, a brother, a grandfather, and what lies next in his path of creativity. Join me on a ride through what began as an interview and naturally became somewhat of an amateur documentary with an unfiltered discussion of what it means to go all in to what you love. Be sure to also hang out till the end for a featured artist performance by davis joined by Mark Flanigan on keys.

Season 1 | Episode 3 | Leandrul
Science of Sound
03/06/23 • 119 min
Leandrul, the electronic project of Crosby Morgan opened her home and studios for an evening to catch up since we last met at Patchwerks in Seattle. We sky-dove into the deep end of the stigmas on mental illness in the music scene, busking, teaching at Patchwerks, composing, and performing live. Join us to see how badass a person, artist, record label founder, friend, and mentor Crosby is. Be sure to also stick around till the end for a beautiful punch-in-the-face featured artist performance by Leandrul where she plays ‘2010’ and ‘Broad Hall’ from her latest full-length ‘Psychosis of Dreams’.

On 1/21/2023 Hank Donovan of Rattlesnake Cable Company and I sat down in his shop in beautiful Missoula Montana to discuss his high quality product line of cables and sonic utilities. I also had the honor of getting to dig a bit into Hank's musical gear history, talk shop on gear innovations, and share a delicious bottle of whiskey with him and his wife Amy. Season 1 | Episode 1 | Benedict Amplification
Science of Sound
11/15/22 • 69 min
On July 16, 2022, I attended An Evening With Benedict Amplification by Congregation (formally Studio Elektrik) featuring Benedict Amplifiers, Worshiper Cabinets, Spun Loud Effects, Fowl Sounds, and Temple Audio Design at Uber Beatz Studios in Lynwood Washington. I had the chance to sit down with Dylan Benedict of Benedict Amplification to talk about how he got into building amplifiers, his line of amps offered, and how business has been since his move to Tacoma Washington. We also dive a bit into his detailed process to personalize his amplifiers around the player/customer and also how things have been going during the supply chain shortages in recent years.
