Elise Edson is a homeschool mom who homeschooled all four of her daughters, and helped homeschool some of her granddaughters. She talks about being a rebel in her desire to not send her children off to school, being a one-income family, homeschooling two of her daughters through high school, homeschooling in Iowa, connecting with Zan Tyler in South Carolina, homeschooling while working, having a good support system, learning World War II history from her father a WWII veteran, a daily homeschool routine, teaching writing composition despite it being a weak subject for herself, teaching a struggling reader who went on to be the first in her class in college, working with the bent of the student, developing Godly character in her kids, and teaching them how to learn and think critically, the accountability of SCAIHS being helpful, socializing with family, starting a field trip group, the importance of activities outside the academics, dealing with issues in the teen years, being humbled and asking forgiveness from her daughters,making homeschool an enjoyable experience, studying each individual and not frustrating them, and discovering each child’s learning style.
