This week, we try to keep it between the lines in our new "living room" set up. We discuss section 84, "the priesthood" section. Many men are returning from their missions and sharing success stories. They have much joy in The Lord and their labors. The Lord reveals to them more about the priesthood, what it means to hold the priesthood, and it's power. We discuss the power of the priesthood that women have. This section is not just for the men, but for the sisters also. Join us this week as we get used to our new set up.
Come Follow Me Historical Setting:
Ever since the priesthood was restored in 1829, Latter-day Saints had been blessed by that sacred power. They were baptized, confirmed, and called to serve by priesthood authority, much like we are today. But having access to priesthood power is not the same thing as completely understanding it, and God had more He wanted His Saints to understand—particularly with the coming restoration of temple ordinances. The 1832 revelation on the priesthood, now Doctrine and Covenants 84, expanded the Saints’ vision of what the priesthood really is. And it can do the same for us today. After all, there is a lot to learn about the divine power that holds “the key of the knowledge of God,” that makes manifest “the power of godliness,” and that prepares us to “see the face of God, even the Father, and live”.

What else could we possibly talk about this week?!?
The election is over. Donald Trump has won by a landslide.
The Republicans have the House and the Senate.
What does this mean for the US over the next four years?
Are you fearful, or hopeful?
Challenge: Write down your thoughts about what you expect to happen over the next four years. Save it, or share it to social media; then look back at it four years from now, and see how accurate your predictions were.
2 Timothy 1:7
"For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind."

Self-Evaluation: A Path to Personal Growth and Holding Yourself Accountable to God's Plan
Self-evaluation is a powerful tool that can help individuals hold themselves accountable and promote personal growth. The process of reflecting on one's own experiences, behaviors, and accomplishments can help individuals better understand themselves, identify areas for improvement, and set goals for personal growth and development. This can be especially valuable for people seeking to become the person God wants them to be.
One of the key benefits of self-evaluation is that it helps individuals identify their strengths and weaknesses. This self-awareness can be particularly useful in the context of faith and spiritual growth, as it can help individuals understand where they may need to work on becoming more like Christ. By identifying areas where they need to grow, individuals can set specific goals and take action to become more like the person God wants them to be.
Another important aspect of self-evaluation is accountability. When individuals regularly reflect on their own experiences and behavior, they can hold themselves accountable for the actions they take and the choices they make. This can be especially important in a faith context, where individuals are seeking to live in accordance with God's will. By regularly evaluating their own behavior, individuals can ensure that they are living in a way that is consistent with God's plan for their life.
Self-evaluation can also be a powerful tool for personal growth. By regularly reflecting on their experiences and behaviors, individuals can identify areas where they need to improve and set goals to work towards. This can help individuals grow in their faith and become more like the person God wants them to be. For example, if an individual realizes that they need to work on becoming more patient, they can set a goal to practice patience in their daily life and work towards becoming a more patient person.
In conclusion, self-evaluation can be a valuable tool for individuals seeking to become the person God wants them to be. By promoting self-awareness, holding individuals accountable, and facilitating personal growth, self-evaluation can help individuals live in accordance with God's plan for their life. So, take time to reflect on your own experiences, behaviors, and accomplishments, and use the insights you gain to become the person God wants you to be.

After spending a lot of time expounding on the words of Isaiah, Nephi get's back to the plainness of the gospel in his writings and final testimony. The gospel at its core is simple and plain, yet wonderfully perfect. Christ was baptized not only to set an example, but also to keep the Father's commandments in which he states that all must be born of the water in order to enter the kingdom of Heaven. The Lord wants to be involved in our lives. Even though Nephi felt weak in writing, he did so anyway knowing the Lord would provide. The Lord can do the same for us in our lives. Men carry the words of the Lord unto the hearts of men and Spirit carries the words of the Lord into the hearts of men. We must be willing to receive the spirit. Finally, Nephi and his people leaving Jerusalem which was destroyed is compared to our current goals that Nasa and Elon Musk have in getting people on Mars. It would be like a colony being established on Mars and then Earth being destroyed. A whold new beginning with nothing left. Nephi and his completely left their world behind to begin a life in a new world, the promised land.

This week we have a special guest join us, Emily Crapo, from the
"To Know Him: Come Follow Me YouTube podcast.
https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC-u4sWXc_OpzqqEC9ob_vIQ
From Come Follow Me:
Jonah was on a ship headed for Tarshish. There’s nothing wrong with sailing to Tarshish, except that it is far away from Nineveh, where Jonah was supposed to go to deliver God’s message. So when the ship encountered a great storm, Jonah knew it was because of his disobedience. At Jonah’s insistence, his fellow mariners cast him into the depths of the sea to stop the storm. It looked like the end of Jonah and his ministry. But the Lord hadn’t given up on Jonah—just as He hadn’t given up on the people of Nineveh and just as He doesn’t give up on any of us. As Micah taught, the Lord does not delight in condemning us, but “he delighteth in mercy.” When we turn to Him, “he will turn again, he will have compassion upon us; he will subdue our iniquities; and [He will] cast all [our] sins into the depths of the sea” (Micah 7:18–19).

Saints In the South - Alma 8-12: "Jesus Christ Will Come to Redeem His People"
play

06/16/24 • 40 min

Send us a text

From Come Follow Me:
"God’s work will not fail. But our efforts to help with His work sometimes seem to fail—at least, we may not immediately see the outcomes we hope for. We might feel a little like Alma when he preached the gospel in Ammonihah—rejected, spit on, and cast out. Yet when an angel instructed him to go back and try again, Alma courageously “returned speedily” (Alma 8:18), and God prepared the way before him. Not only did He provide Alma with food to eat and a place to stay, but He also prepared Amulek, who became a fellow laborer, a fierce defender of the gospel, and a faithful friend. When we face setbacks and disappointments as we serve in the Lord’s kingdom, we can remember how God supported and led Alma, and we can trust that God will support and lead us too, even in difficult circumstances."

Jesus provides bread and wine miraculously and again administers the sacrament to the people. He teaches the people that they are a remnant of the house of Israel, and that He is the one of which Moses and all the prophets have testified.
Christ teaches the people about the nation that would be established in this land; a land in which the gentiles would gather and establish a “free people by the power of the Father”.
The Savior’s words and actions throughout these chapters reveal how He feels about the scriptures. He quotes words from Isaiah and Malachi that are full of vivid images and comparisons: colorful foundation stones, coals in the fire, purified silver, the windows of heaven. As He quotes the prophet Isaiah, Jesus teaches that Zion and her stakes will be established in the last days, and Israel will be gathered and no weapon formed against them shall prosper.
The Savior further teaches that at the great and last day “all people, and all kindreds, and all nations and tongues shall stand before God, to be judged of their works, whether they be good or whether they be evil”. As chapter 26 draws to a close, we see that many people were baptized and filled with the Holy Ghost. The people ministered to one another and “had all things in common among them “.

This week we discuss the the many difficulties that Joseph Smith faced in the early stages of translating the gold plates delivered to him by Moroni. Emma Smith served as Joseph's Scribe early on. Martin Harris, having desires to be a part of God's work also assisted as Joseph's scribe. Martin faced heavy pressures from his family about his being fooled by a young man who wanted only to take his money. Martin, strongly desiring to convince his family, wanted some type of proof or evidence to show them. After asking the Lord on 3 different occasions, Joseph finally gains permission and gives the 116 pages of manuscripts.
Emma gives birth, unfortunately, the baby does not survive. Martin Loses the manusript and then has to tell Joseph. Joseph Loses the ability to translate as Moroni takes the gold plates and the Urim and Thummim back. Joseph's world seems to be crashing down around him as several things go wrong all about the same time.
Joseph, instead of turning away, turns to the Lord with a humble and repentant heart and pleads for forgiveness. Within a couple of months, Moroni appears to Joseph again delivering the Urim & Thummim for Joseph to receive a revelation. He then obtains the plates and again begins to translate.
How much blame can we put on Martin's inability to take no for an answer or his losing of the 116 pages. How much blame can we put on Joseph for giving into Martin's requests. I don't think we can blame them at all. If we look honestly, we see a lot of ourselves in both of these men. Joseph is still learning to be a prophet, seer, and revelator. Martin has strong desires to be involved but is still learning his place. Martin is 20 years older than Joseph and tends to rely upon his own understanding rather than the directions of Joseph as they come from God.
Join us as we seek to learn from these great men as they make mistakes that probably all of us would have made and do make.
