River Reads

This week on River Reads, Episode 8 - The Pink & Part 2 of The Little Mermaid (originally aired, April 15th, 2023, on Smithers Community Radio @ smitherradio.com. Last week, we tried something a little different, reading part 1 of 2 of The Little Mermaid. This week, Wilde narrates ‘The Pink’ by Brothers Grimm and reads the conclusion, and part 2, of Hans Christian Andersen’s ‘The Little Mermaid’.
Don’t worry. If your memory is anything like ours, and we can’t remember what we had for breakfast, let alone a story read a week ago, this week, River Rambles, a sin-op-sis of last week's part 1 of The Little Mermaid.

This week on River Reads:

  1. The Pink. Grimm’s Fairy Tales By Brothers Grimm. Kingsport Press, Inc. Kingsport, Tennessee. 1976 Printing.
  2. Part 2: The Little Mermaid. The Fairy Tales of Hans Christian Andersen, Andersen, H. C. (Hans Christian), 1805-1875. Translated by Jean Hersholt. Ed Noel Daniel. TASCHEN. Germany, 2013.

The River Reads show is a program where those of all ages can escape into bedtime stories and fairy tales; both new and old, but mostly old and at times macabre, or silly, or even perhaps a little confusing as written in old english, and then there’s those stories whose premises or message has perhaps not aged as well over the years, let’s face it you can’t be too picky when you’re dependent upon material available to you through creative commons.

Ep 7 - Mermaids, Magic, & Matches: The Macabre

This week on River Reads, Episode 7 - Mermaids, Magic, & Matches: The Macabre (Original aired, April 8th, 2023, on Smithers Community Radio @ smitherradio.com ) , more classics from 'The Fairy Tales of Hans Christian Andersen': 1) 'The Tinder Box'; 2) 'The Little Match Girl'; and 3) part 1 of 2 of 'The Little Mermaid'.

While happy to announce that this week's episode does not have the same level of sexual shaming of female characters, there is however, a fair amount of death in this week's selection. So if you find you’re sensitive to death and dying, perhaps tune in to another episode of River Reads.

In this episode, we’re trying something a little different, as Wilde will be reading Part one of two of 'The Little Mermaid'. Which found itself just a little too long to read in its entirety in an episode. You’ll have to tune in next week for its conclusion on River Reads: Episode 8 - The Pink & Part 2 of The Little Mermaid.

This week on River Reads,:

The River Reads show is a program for all ages to escape into creative commons fairy tales and stories, as narrated by host River Wilde. Enjoy tales, both new and old, but mostly old and at times macabre, or silly, or even perhaps a little confusing as written in old english and the host fumbles the words, or those classic stories that have aged poorly. Featuring ‘River Rambles’, ‘Gender Blender’, and ‘River Reads’ Rating System’. The River Reads show is "not a kids show but not not a kids show". Listener discretion advised. Originally airs on CICK 93.9 FM Smithers Community Radio @ smithersradio.com.
