Bill and Sean are back, bringing logic to stupid movies: Their next choice is Godzilla (1998).

Sean imagines a Godzilla/Titanic mash-up film.

Sean has been ill and has been stuck in his room for days and appears to have some kind of cabin fever. He gets way too excited talking about this film.

-What happened to Matthew Broderick?

-How old does Bill think Sean is?

Review It Yourself - MCU It Yourself 2: Captain Marvel (2019)
play

08/31/22 • 12 min

Sean tries and fails to watch Captain Marvel (2019).

Getting through only 46 minutes, Sean found this film incredibly boring.

Not a great episode, which has Sean wondering whether going chronologically with the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Extremely Lightly-Discussed Points:

-The plot.

-The editing.

-The script.

Will Sean manage to complete 5 Things I Liked About This Film?

-Why are there records for the villain?

-Why is that airplane hangar so clean?

-Why is Tony's basement so easy to access?

-Why were the drone colour-schemes so unimaginative?

Random Quotes:

-"It's just Tony in all his arrogant glory"

-"He might've survived but..."

-"He's building a kind of ARC-whip".

Starting with a mini-beer review and a James Bond discussion, Sean welcomes Bill from 'Bill Reads Bad Reviews' back to Review It Yourself.

Bill brings a really eloquent argument for Skyfall (2012), whilst Sean just repeats "it's stupid" over and over again. They bond over a mutual dislike of Spectre (2016).

Discussion Points:

-Bill still hasn't got over his Forrest Gump episode.

-The dark tone during the opening of this film.

-We don't make films like this anymore.

-Sean completely forgets about the Lord of the Rings film series. The disappointment in Bill's voice is heart-wrenching.

-The strength of the characters in the film.

-That feeling you get when leaving the cinema after seeing a great film.

-Sean needs to lay off the history the books, as he repeatedly calls Barbossa, Barbarossa. Which was the code name for the Invasion of the Soviet Union by Nazi Germany.

Random Questions:

-Do the English drink warm beer?

-Do Americans put ice cubes in lager?

-Is Skyfall a poor man's Home Alone?

-Has Bill been watching too much Forrest Gump?

-Should Bill do an X-rated version of Bill Reads Bad Reviews?

-Who did the music for this film?

-What film in the Pirates franchise made Bill want to leave the movie theatre?

-Did the butler drop like a wooden door or like a sack of spuds?

-Did you know Zoe Saldana was in this film?

Random Quotes:

-"Who was in that writer's room?".

-"He can see the BRGR on the grill and he just needs to get to it".

-"The opening of this film, a lot better than the beginning of this [podcast] episode".

Thanks for listening!

Sean and Bill will return with a review of Spectre (2015).

Ed from 'The Film Effect Podcast' returns for his second dose of Halloween goodness by joining Sean to discuss the much-beloved? Halloween IV: The Return of Michael Myers (1988).

Warning: It gets rather sweary.

Craig and Chris (eventually) from Whit's The Script? are joined by Sean to discuss Terminator Genisys (2015).

Is the time right for a reappraisal for the much-maligned fifth instalment in the Terminator series? Probably not, but here goes.

Discussion Points:

-Craig does a surprisingly good English accent.

-They struggle to understand the withering criticism directed towards this instalment.

-Craig has chosen this hill to die on and it has Terminator Genisys written all over it.

-Expectations versus reality.

-The strong pacing of the film.

-The spoilers in the trailers.

-Sean talks about giving films a second chance.

-Chris arrives after 46 minutes and well any truly rains on Craig and Sean's Genisys-themed parade.

-Sean inadvertently reveals his CD collection.

Random Questions:

-Does the John Connor-Terminator hybrid have a model number?

-Is Sean popular enough to do 'hot takes'?

-Is The Lost World (1997) better than the original?

-Should they have binned John Connor and Katherine Connor (Nee Brewster) from Terminator Salvation (2009)?

-Jai Courtney has won his way back into Sean's good books, but has he got into yours?

-Is J.K. Simmons (Robocop) easy money?

-Why couldn't they paint the tyres over the guy's face?

-Do you have film quotes that you think about every now and again?

-Will Sean ever give Spectre (2015) another try?

-Chris wonders, was Sarah Connor needed in this film?

-Does anyone ever read these notes?

-Why does Sean suddenly get so sweary?

-How do you say lore?

Random Quotes:

-"The North East, it's like Scottish people with their heeds kicked in"-Craig sums up the North East people.

-"It's not unwatchable but it's pretty bloody close"-Sean is disgusted by Terminator: Dark Fate (2019).

-"Expectation goes above realisation"-Craig sums up the initial reaction to sequels.

-"It is very high-end CGI"-Sean actually praises some CGI.

-"The first time I saw him, I thought Oh you can't act!" Sean remembers first seeing Jai Courtney in A Good Day to Die Hard (2013).

-"Oh God it's bleeding in"-Sean says NIKE the American way.

-"He [Sam Worthington] was totally unknown at that point...at least to me he was"-Sean really needs to get his ego in check soon.

Shout-outs:

-Carlo from 'The Movie Loot'.

-Chatsunami and their wonderful Terminator series.

Do Not Watch Recommendations:

-Terminator: Dark Fate (2019).
