The Spear Family of Teshuva Music have had quite an adventure in the fall of 2023. They started with a family trip to Israel for Sukkot, and were there when the atrocities of October 7 happened and the war against Hamas began. Sam, Angela, Jonathan, Caleb, and Cyndie Spear share with us what happened during their time in Israel, and what they have been doing since their return home. In this time of trial, they have found ways to translate their love for Israel into action to raise awareness and support, starting in their community in Tennessee.

Reunion Roadmap - Reunion Roadmap Midrash: Presumption or Faith
play

09/16/24 • 15 min

People of faith should step out in faith - as long as they are doing so in obedience to God rather than in obedience to their own desires. How do we know the difference? That's an important question Barry Phillips and David Jones investigate in this midrash.

Reunion Roadmap - Reunion Roadmap Midrash: Brokenness
play

10/23/24 • 15 min

Why do we expect to have easy lives when we become disciples of Messiah Yeshua? There's a process of maturity involved in making us ready to be and do the things our Creator intends for us. Frank Houtz and Barry Phillips share their thoughts on that process - and along the way provide some surprising insight.

This nexus of history is remarkable for many reasons. One of the most remarkable aspects is what seems to be an expanding willingness of Jews and Christians to establish relationships based on their shared faith in the God of Israel and expectation of His promises of redemption to be fulfilled. On the other hand, this present time is remarkable in that mainstream Judaism and Christianity are still at odds with one another, and there are many on both sides who resist any cooperation, and who view those who reach across the divide with suspicion.

Adam Eliyahu Berkowitz addresses these topics in this second part of our conversation. He knows his subject, having covered it for several years as a columnist for Israel365 News. Israel is the center of this nexus in history – which is a blessing, but it comes at tremendous cost. That’s what Eliyahu shares in this interview, and in his latest novel, The Master of Return and the Eleventh Light.

A beautiful part of what Eliyahu shares is the willingness of Christians and Jews to help one another in our shared journey. It’s good to have help along the way, but how much help to we thrust aside because we don’t appreciate the source? We hear about that in “Allowing Help,” the latest midrash from David Jones and Barry Phillips, and in the music of Lenny & Varda and Eved Adonai.

The Master of Return and Eliyahu’s other books are available at Root Source at the following links:

Reunion Roadmap - Beverly Hall: All Things to All People, part 2
play

06/03/24 • 50 min

Bev Hall has a heart for guiding children in God’s truth. That’s what inspired her to become a teacher, and it’s what inspires her to continue teaching after retiring from professional education. These days, Bev not only teaches children on Shabbat and in Sunday church, but also shares what she knows about Torah and how she is blessed to keep it. This is part of the process of taking the Torah to the church. In this second part of our conversation, Bev shares how she does that, and the response she has received.

A major lesson of the Torah is the difference between the holy and the common. Another way to say that is the difference between clean and unclean. Our Holy God wants us to approach Him, but how can we do that if we’re stained by this fallen world? That’s what Barry Phillips and David Jones talk about in their midrash called, “Be Clean,” and what we hear in the music of Samuel & Benjamin Wearp and Gregory Brown.

Reunion Roadmap - Beverly Hall: All Things to All People, part 1
play

05/27/24 • 50 min

At the age of 75, Bev Hall doesn't show any signs of slipping into a comfortable retirement! She has already lived a full life, and as a widow and retired educator, no one would blame her for stepping back and relaxing. She explains why in this three-part interview. In the first segment, Bev tells how she found herself confronted with the choice of withdrawing into grief and isolation, or answering the Lord's call to jump back into her calling as a seasoned teacher, intercessor, and elder. That has taken her into some surprising places, where she is now making a difference in the lives of Hebraic believers, Jews, and traditional Christians.

Bev's journey has caused her to rethink her paradigms many times. That's something we should be ready to do as our Heavenly Father acquaints us with areas that need attention. Our Elders, Barry Phillips and David Jones, discuss one of those areas in their midrash, "Does How We Worship Matter?" Ultimately, it's about Him, not us, as we are reminded in the music of Will Spires and Eved Adonai

Reunion Roadmap - Isaac and Jacob Lind: From Montana to Israel
play

03/11/24 • 44 min

If you were young and wanted to make a difference for good in the world, how would you do that? Isaac and Jacob Lind answered that question by volunteering to work in Israel.

The war brought on by the brutal Hamas invasion of Israel on October 7, 2023, has created many needs, particularly a shortage of labor. The Lind brothers helped alleviate that shortage by giving seven weeks of their time with HaYovel, working on projects such as harvesting olives and building a horse therapy facility. In this interview, they share with us their reasons for volunteering in Israel, what the learned while there, and why it is important for Christians to look for ways to support Israel and the Jewish people in this time of great need.

Isaac and Jacob are representative of the many young people from America and elsewhere whose love for Israel is motivating them to do what they can to help in Israel’s time of need. This is different from the narrative we usually hear, which says that the younger generation opposes Israel and is swept up in the irrational, hate-filled rhetoric against God’s Chosen People. That’s why the Lind brothers and others like them are encouraging to all who share their love of God’s people and His land.
Would you like to help send more young people like Isaac and Jacob to Israel to volunteer? You can! B’ney Yosef North America has long been committed to giving a minimum of 10% of our income to support Israel. Now, we are called to do even more. We are joining forces with HaYovel to supplement expenses for selected volunteers to travel to Israel to help in the land.*

There are two ways you can join us in this effort:

  • Donate directly on our website. Go to https://bneyyosefna.com/donate/ and select Israel Volunteers. — OR —
  • By check. Be sure to mark your check “Israel Volunteer” and send it to:

BYNA
PO BOX 1068
CENTRALIA, WA 98531
All gifts are tax deductible as BYNA is a 501C3 organization. No gift is too small!
Thank you for joining with us to bless the people and land of Israel!
*Due to the critical need for volunteers and the security situation in the Land, we have prayerfully partnered with HaYovel, who already has guidelines and processes in place for volunteers. We hope that in the future, we will be able to create a checklist of requirements that would allow us to draw from applicants affiliated with BYNA.

Reunion Roadmap - Reunion Roadmap Midrash: Why Stand with Israel?

It's a timely discussion of a topic that has become a central issue for followers of Yeshua (Jesus).

The Ten Lost Tribes of Israel are the stuff of myth and legend, right? That’s what prevailing wisdom would say, but that narrative doesn’t fit the facts on the ground. Margot Crossing can testify to that – particularly since she now has a daughter-in-law whose people know they are descendants of the Hebrew tribe of Manasseh. Margot has been researching the migrations of Israel’s tribes through Central Asia, China, and India for nearly 30 years. In this three-part interview, she shares some of her findings, and a new initiative she calls “Ten in Ten,” which invites peoples from around the globe to retrace the steps of the tribes back to Jerusalem in fulfillment of prophecy:

Set up roadmarks for yourself, place guideposts for yourself; direct your mind to the highway, the way by which you went. Return, O virgin of Israel, return to these your cities. Jeremiah 31:21 NASB

Is it really time for fulfillment of the prophecies of the Ten Tribes’ return? If so, then we should see a calling and anointing from Israel’s God on people who will walk out that fulfillment. We hear some encouraging perspectives on the oil of anointing and the light of those who bear it in the music of Jimmie Black and Will Spires, and in the midrash of Barry Phillips and David Jones, which they call, “Do You Need an Oil Change?

What does God think about us when we show little appreciation for the things He has done for us? The story of Israel in the wilderness gives us some answers to that question. Barry Phillips and David Jones investigate those answers and make some applications for us in this penetrating discussion.
