Janice and Robin talk about the virtues of being average and how aging gives us a little more permission to try different things without being great at them.
We also talk about:
Having the guts to try something new
How Janice took the pressure off Robin when beginning this new podcast
The fun practice of “dabbling” in something new without expectation of expertise

Guests: Dr. Glenna Kyker Brayton and Karyn Houser
When Karyn Houser was fifteen years old she ran away from home. Her relationship with her mother, Glenna, was rocky, as Karyn felt Glenna was more concerned with her Navajo students than she was with her own children.

Fast forward forty-seven years and hear how these two women have, in recent years, created a journey toward a caring, loving relationship. In addition, learn tips on how other mothers and daughters can find common ground, renew their bond, and perhaps even express their love for one another.
This episode is sponsored by Snagbag by Karyn. Find these lovely bags at https://www.etsy.com/shop/SnagbagByKaryn.

Join Janice and Robin as they talk with author and speaker Pat Wilson--an honest and vulnerable conversation about aging—the good, the bad, and the ugly! We talk about the losses and gains of aging (sometimes literal pounds!) as well as the gift of naps, knocking on some new doors, and the richness of spiritual life in this time of life.

As young girls, we were often told how we should look, act, think, and even what we could be when we grew up. Now as older women we are often told similar things by society. This was and is very frustrating to many of us.
This episode will address some of the expectations of aging often foisted upon us by others. The question we have for our audience is, "Will you live into stereotypes about aging, or will you decide to live the life you choose?"

Welcome to the Restless to Renewed channel!
We are Robin and Janice, and like other women in our silver years, we want to live a happy, fulfilled life. We have both raised families and retired from our original careers, where we worked as friends and colleagues. One day we were enjoying a lovely lunch together, and our conversation led us to realize that we were both restless and shared a need for something more in our lives. We wanted to continue to use our skills and talents and branch out into new endeavors as we grew older. The next realization was that there had to be many other women who felt the same need. At that point, Restless to Renewed was born.

Join us as we discuss how women in their silver years can take big or small steps to enable their quest for a happy, fulfilled life.

Today, Janice and Robin speak with Janet Clazzy, a local musician whose very last name is a combination of the idea of both classical and jazz music! After a career of playing music across the country in symphonies and churches, at 70, Janet felt that her performing days were over. Writing for a small-town newspaper, Janet recently worked through The Artist’s Way creativity course and found herself being drawn to create and perform a Christmas symphony to be performed this December. Listen to Janet’s inspiring story of a rich and musical life that shows no signs of slowing down.

In this episode, Janet talks about:
The pleasure and beauty of music—“feelings for your ears!”
How studying The Artist’s Way changed her life, reminding her that everyone is creative in some way;
The importance of acting on your internal vision for your life;
How to begin playing a music instrument in the later years.

As the morning sun washes over the Tennessee countryside, Karyn Houser and her husband typically find themselves sitting on their porch, sipping coffee. There the two enjoy the restorative power of nature within their 37-acre haven, setting the tone for our conversation. As we chat about the therapeutic company of Serama chickens and the artistry behind Karyn's whimsical tote bags, we are reminded of the philosophy that she lives by—a belief in the value of joy and the wisdom of downsizing to amplify that joy.
Join us for this heartfelt exploration of the richness of community spirit, the restorative power of nature, and the profound peace found in a life less cluttered by material possessions.

Lisa Gilliam, 65 now, found herself in 2020 at loose ends. It was the beginning of the pandemic, and she experienced many changes in a short time: losing her job because of the pandemic, moving to a city from the country, and being unable to see her grandchildren, whom she was very close to. She wondered, what do I do
now?
Lisa tells an inspiring story of how she navigated big life transitions in her sixties, including age discrimination in her job search, empty nest grieving with both children and grandchildren, and learning the value of creativity as a healing process.
Find out why these ideas are important to Lisa, and how they can also help you through life transitions:
 Ask yourself, what do you LIKE to do?
 Be kind to yourself.
 It’s OK to quit something you no longer like to do.
 Embrace who you are, and be your own advocate.
 Choose to enjoy life and participate fully in it.
