play

06/04/24 • 41 min

On Easter Sunday, April 3, 1994, 18-year-old Heidi Allen was working alone as a cashier at the D&W Convenience Store located in the Oswego County Town of New Haven, New York.

About 7:50 a.m., a marked Oswego County Sheriff’s Department patrol unit was flagged down in the area by a citizen who reported that the convenience store was open, with lights and gas pumps on, but no one tending the business. The cashier had apparently vanished from the store.
In Part 2 of The Mysterious Disappearance of Heidi Allen, we explore the evidence, trial, and the newest suspects. It's been 30 years since Heidi Allen was abducted, and we are still searching for answers.

Residue: A True Crime Podcast - The Selfie That Helped Solve A Murder: Brittney Gargol
play

09/17/24 • 28 min

A "girl's night out" turns deadly. In March 2015, 18 year-old Brittney Gargol went out for a night on the town with her bff, Cheyenne Antoine. The next day Brittney's body would be found on the side of the road. Next to her was a belt, a leather jacket, and a sparkly wristwatch. The case would seemingly go cold, but police were hot on the trail of the killer. An innocent selfie taken the night of the murder would hold all the clues to who killed Brittney Gargol. Sometimes we don't have a motive. Sometimes people are just pure evil.

Pretty and popular 15-year-old Kirsten Costas had it all. She was the teenage dream at Miramonte High School in Orinda, California in the 1980's. Jealousy and rage from a member of her peer group would cause a horrific crime to take place on the night of June 23, 1984. A community would never be the same. The 1994 TV movie, Death of a Cheerleader, starring Tori Spelling and Kellie Martin would be based on this case. The highest ranking movie of 1994 would spark a debate about whether or not the murder of Kirsten Costas was planned. Or was it a jealousy fueled impulsive rage?

In the summer of 1993, an Upstate NY community was horrified when 12-year-old Sara Anne Wood went missing. Sara's abduction inspired the community, the public, and law enforcement to raise awareness about child safety and missing children. Five months would pass before police would receive a game changing lead. Another 12-year-old girl escaped an attempted abduction in Pittsfield, MA leading police to a man named Lewis Lent Jr. Investigators would unravel a terrifying trail of a serial killer that lived under the radar for years.
In the end, this is the inspiring story of a family that never gave up hope. A family that still continues to fight for justice. A family that believes that the importance of teaching child safety education to prevent child abduction is crucial in our society. The Wood family remains an inspiration to their community. This is the story of Sara Anne Wood.
