Removing Barriers

Removing Barriers

Many barriers exist that can prevent us from seeing the cross clearly. We want to attempt to remove those barriers and share the gospel. But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear (1 Peter 3:15). For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek. Removing Barriers - RBP 84: Soulwinning and the Church | Guest: Edward Thal
play

04/23/22 • 69 min

Episode 84

Consider these startling findings by Ligonier Ministries' biannual State of Theology survey of professing Christians: 54% agree that religious belief is a matter of personal opinion; it is not about objective truth. 65% agree that everyone sins a little, but most people are good by nature. Only 25% agree that even the smallest sin deserves eternal damnation. These findings may provide some insight into why a majority of professing Christians not only see soul-winning as optional, but also feel it is inappropriate to actively evangelize the world around us. In this episode of the Removing Barriers podcast, we sit down with Edward Thal and talk about soul-winning: what is it, and why should we care? Edward Thal has been actively soul-winning for over 30 years, has been on the mission field, and has organized outreach efforts for churches. May this episode spur us to fervent soul-winning and heartfelt love and obedience to Christ.

Episode 81

In the summer of 2021, the world witnessed the unmitigated disaster of the U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan. Like unwilling witnesses to a train wreck in progress, we were unable to look away as the nightmare unfolded. Desperate civilians clinging to departing planes fell to their deaths. Babies were handed to troops across barbed wire. The Taliban acquired abandoned military equipment and weapons. Allies and American citizens were abandoned behind enemy lines. The country fell to the Taliban in a matter of days. To boot, 13 American service members and about 70 Afghan citizens were killed in a suicide bombing at Hamid Karzai International Airport were untold numbers of people were waiting for a flight out.

Though virtually everyone is in agreement that the withdrawal was a failure, opinions are still split as to whether the U.S. should have withdrawn in the first place. In this episode on the Removing Barriers podcast, we have a conversation with Missionary Scott about this, what the withdrawal means for both countries moving forward, and other things that we should keep in mind as we evaluate this historic event.

After acknowledging God's call on his life, Marco pulled up stakes and settled down there, engaging with the people about the gospel and taking down barriers to salvation through the power of Christ. Join us on this latest installment of the On the Mission Field series to hear about God's work in Uruguay, and how he is using men like Marco to tear down barriers to salvation in the lives of Uruguayans all around him.

Episode 57

On this day twenty years ago, Islamic terrorists hijacked multiple commercial jetliners and crashed them into the World Trade Centers in New York, the Pentagon in D.C., and a field in Pennsylvania. Nearly 3,000 people died and the nation changed instantly. The White House declared war on terror and vowed to bring the perpetrators to justice in response, but what actually happened was retribution plus twenty years of war seen as an abject failure. Where did America go wrong, and what are the spiritual considerations in a situation such as this? Join us on this episode of the Removing Barriers podcast as we begin to scratch the surface in search of answers.

Removing Barriers - RBP 43: Cancel Culture and Free Speech (Part 1 of 2)
play

06/05/21 • 50 min

Episode 43

The tally of people and businesses cancelled for running afoul leftist ideology shows no sign of shrinking and the number of reasons for cancellation are growing even faster. In response, many have bowed the knee to the demands of the "woke" while others have opted to preemptively cancel themselves! In this episode of the Removing Barriers podcast, Sam joins us to discuss cancel culture and all of its nefarious implications. How harmful is cancel culture, and is it a necessary evil? Can speech be violence, and is there even such a thing as hate speech?

Join us on part one of this episode as we evaluate these questions and explore how the Church might be affected.

Removing Barriers - RBP 32: Salvation: By Works?
play

03/20/21 • 74 min

DW joined us in this episode of the Removing Barriers Podcast where we discussed whether salvation is by works or by grace alone through faith alone.

We looked at a number of good works and searched the scriptures as to whether they are capable of saving us from eternal separation from a holy God. Some of the good works we looked at are:

  • Keeping the Golden rule or the 10 Commandments
  • Giving Money and/or Time
  • Making Religious Pilgrimages
  • Proselytizing
  • Religious ceremonies
  • Baptism and why was Jesus baptized

We then explored the scriptures to determine if salvation is by grace or by faith. Are the books of James and Romans contradictory? Was Jesus proclaiming salvation by works when he declared, “I was an hungred, and ye gave me no meat?”

What about the Old Testament? Was salvation by works or by grace back then? What about in the New Testament?

We concluded the episode with DW explaining how Jesus satisfied the Father in Isaiah 53:11 (“He shall see of the travail of his soul, and shall be satisfied”) with His death, burial and resurrection according to the scriptures.

Removing Barriers - RBP 14: The Sad State of Basic Theology (Part 3 of 3)
play

11/14/20 • 41 min

Episode 14

Part 3

This is the third of a 3-part series on the Sad State of Basic Theology. We continued the discussion with a basic study of the Holy Spirit and a discussion about whether Jesus was a created being or God incarnate. What professing christians believe about these issues would surprise even the non-believer.

We ended the episode by presenting the fact that Christ had to be God to be able to die for our sins. If He is not God, then he is in need of a saviour himself. But since He is God, He was able to die for our sins. It is through repentant faith in his finished work that everyone must be saved.

Removing Barriers - RBP 111: Rebekah, How Were Your Barriers Removed?
play

11/26/22 • 45 min

Episode 111

Series: How Were Your Barriers Removed - 31

Some Christians erroneously think that a salvation testimony is somehow less powerful when the person is, by worldly standards, "a good person." Perhaps they grew up in a moral or maybe even Christian home and never ventured in worldly pleasures. This kind of background, some may think, does not adequately showcase a drastic change at the point of salvation, so the effect isn't as poignant. Nothing can be further from the truth. It is every bit as much a miracle as a world-worn sinner being saved, and this week, we get to hear such a testimony. We continue the How Were Your Barriers Removed? series with Rebekah, who grew up in a Christian home but was nonetheless saved by God's miraculous grace.

Removing Barriers - RBP 143: Ta'Kiya Young: A Soul for Which Christ Died
play

09/30/23 • 62 min

Episode 143

It seems that whenever there is an interaction between a white police officer and a black person, the question of race and/or police brutality inevitably comes up. In some instances, it is the first thing that comes up. Should this be the case in our society? On August 24, 2023, a 21-year old woman named Ta'Kiya Young was shot and killed by police after having been accused of shoplifting liquor from a local grocery store. What makes this story noteworthy by today's standards is that she was black, unarmed, and pregnant at the time of her interaction with the police and subsequent death. Was the shooting racially motivated? Did the officer have the legal or moral grounds to open fire? What about her family and protestors who insist the officer be indicted and brought to justice swiftly? Join us on this episode of the Removing Barriers podcast as we discuss Ta'Kiya Young: a soul for whom Christ died.
