#194: Keith Moon - The Craziest Rock Drummer Ever
Remember This
11/15/21 • 20 min
Keith Moon was rock’s wildest character in the Sixties and Seventies, an unapologetic freewheeling hedonist whose lifestyle became synonymous with the mad, carefree image of the rock star at large. He courted the press and became notorious as ‘Moon The Loon’, the incorrigible clown who respected no authority whatsoever and never knew the meaning of the word embarrassment. As The Who became massively popular worldwide, Keith Moon became a celebrity, not just as a drummer, but as the mad jester to rock’s high court whose exploits included cross-dressing and elaborate practical jokes. Keith Moon was more than just rock's greatest drummer, he was also its greatest character and wildest party animal. Fuelled by vast quantities of drink, drugs, insecurities and confusion, Moon destroyed everything with gleeful abandon: drum kits, houses, cars, hotels, relationships and, finally, himself.

Resources mentioned in this episode:
On the centenary of the end of First World War, Academy Award-winner Peter Jackson (The Lord of the Rings trilogy) presents the World Premiere of an extraordinary new work showing the Great War as you have never seen it.
This unique film brings into high definition the human face of the First World War as part of a special London Film Festival presentation alongside a live Q&A with director Peter Jackson hosted by Mark Kermode.
Using state of the art technology to restore original archival footage which is more than a 100-years old, Jackson brings to life the people who can best tell this story: the men who were there.
Driven by a personal interest in the First World War, Jackson set out to bring to life the day-to-day experience of its soldiers. After months immersed in the BBC and Imperial War Museums’ archives, narratives and strategies on how to tell this story began to emerge for Jackson.
Using the voices of the men involved, the film explores the reality of war on the front line; their attitudes to the conflict; how they ate; slept and formed friendships, as well what their lives were like away from the trenches during their periods of downtime.
Jackson and his team have used cutting edge techniques to make the images of a hundred years ago appear as if they were shot yesterday. The transformation from black and white footage to colourised footage can be seen throughout the film revealing never before seen details.
Reaching into the mists of time, Jackson aims to give these men voices, investigate the hopes and fears of the veterans, the humility and humanity that represented a generation changed forever by a global war.

10 Ways to Make Working From Home More Productive
Everyone wants to be more productive. How incredible would it be to wake up with a to-do list that you can actually do?
Unfortunately, life happens and distractions get in the way of a day's fully checked off checklist. I'm guilty of starting out with good intentions and then falling prey to the dings of my email and the bright lights of my phone.
I took it upon myself to stop the madness and slowly started implementing these things one by one...and it actually worked. You don't have to apply this list all at once but if you can get to a place where you are doing most of these things most of the time, then you are well on your way to a more efficient day.
Find movement every 60 minutes.
Some studies recommend every 30 minutes, but if you are deep in your work, getting up for a walk when you're in peak creativity is just as counterproductive.
I opt for a five-minute walk or stretch every 60 minutes. The quick break allows your brain to pause and rejuvenate. If you're in a slump and finding yourself checking your phone or hopping on social media too much, it's also a good indicator that you should take a movement break.
Stop multi-tasking.
I'll admit it, I'm still guilty of this one ,though studies have proved that you become extremely less productive when you do multiple things at once. It's just the fact of the matter. When your brain can stop jumping from idea to idea, you become more focused, clear, and determined.
When I left my corporate job to start my own business, there was a definite stigma about home offices. Virtual receptionists, virtual office - many entrepreneurs did anything they could to make it seem they worked from a "real," not a home, office.
Now, of course, having a home office no longer implies a lack of professionalism or success; in fact, some of the most successful people I know work from home.
What am I reading this week: Goals: How to Get Everything You Want-Faster Than You Ever Thought Possible
By Brian Tracy
Why do some people achieve all their goals while others simply dream of having a better life? Bestselling author Brian Tracy shows that the path from frustration to fulfillment has already been discovered.
Hundreds of thousands—even millions—of men and women have started with nothing and achieved great success. Here Tracy presents the essential principles you need to know to make your dreams come true.
Tracy presents a simple, powerful, and effective system for setting and achieving goals—a method that has been used by more than one million people to achieve extraordinary things. In this revised and expanded second edition he has added three new chapters addressing areas in which goals can be most rewarding but also the toughest to set and keep: finances, family, and health
Using the twenty-one strategies Tracy outlines, you’ll be able to accomplish any goals you set for yourself—no matter how big. You’ll discover how to determine your own strengths, what you truly value in life, and what you really want to accomplish in the years ahead.
Tracy shows how to build your self-esteem and self-confidence, approach every problem or obstacle effectively, overcome difficulties, respond to challenges, and continue forward toward your goals, no matter what happens. Most importantly, you’ll learn a system for achievement that you will use for the rest of your life.
This book has been a life-saver for me. "Goals" have been a very important part of my life from my earliest years...but not called by that "name." I am beginning to understand from his book what a "goal" is and how to write one (or more) that puts fire in your belly to get what you want done actually accomplished.

#78: How To Build Unstoppable Mental Strength
Remember This
02/12/19 • 13 min
For many people, the fear of rejection, a lack of optimism or a host of self-sabotaging behaviors hold them back from reaching their goals. The hurdle that keeps someone from crossing over the space between a mediocre life and an extraordinary life is a lack of mental strength.
Your mind can be your best asset or your biggest weakness. If you don’t train it well, your negative thoughts will become a self-fulfilling prophecy.
If you think I’ll never get hired, you’ll probably sit through an interview with slumped shoulders and lackluster responses. Your behaviour could prevent you from making a good first impression and ultimately decrease your chances of being hired. When you don’t land the position, your self-limiting beliefs are reinforced and the negative cycle continues.
When you label yourself as not good enough or not smart enough, you equip your negative thoughts with the power to influence your emotions and behaviours. You can’t create positive change until you take back control of your thoughts. You can’t perform at your peak without a strong mindset.
Picture someone you consider mentally strong. What does he or she look like? Often, people picture professional athletes or Navy SEALs as the most resilient. But you don’t have to have a World Series game or your life on the line to benefit from increasing your mental strength.
Whether you’re leading a company or just want to be a better parent, building mental muscle will help you reach your goals. When you’re mentally strong, you become the best possible version of yourself.
Building mental strength is the key to greater life satisfaction, enhanced performance and increased resilience. It’s about creating the kind of life you want and being bold enough to live according to your values.
What could you accomplish if you were willing to risk rejection? What could you achieve if you pushed yourself to your mental and physical limits? How much could you do if you put your time and energy into the things that truly matter? A strong and resilient mind allows you to answer these questions with a confident anything.

17 Website Design Mistakes That’ll Ruin Your Conversion Rates
There are some web design mistakes that may or may not have impact on a website’s success, but there are others that act as conversion killers.
They spell death knell for web traffic and make sure your website and its prospects go downhill unless something is done to get rid of these mistakes.
Many people think that conversion rate optimisation is mostly depended on content.
The above statement might be true but at the same time you cannot afford to overlook the significance of design as the wrong web design elements can hold your site back from accomplishing great success.
You have less than a second to persuade a visitor to stay on your page.
In online businesses, creating trust is much harder than in real life as people can’t see your face. All that they can judge you by in that first second how well your website design is.
So, there is no doubt about that the design of your website has a huge impact in your conversion rate.
There are many website design mistakes that can hurt your conversion rates. In this episode I will walk you through some of the most common mistakes people make while designing their website.
Website Design Mistake #1: An Obsolete Website Design
If your website is designed five years back, then it’s the time to upgrade the web design with the new design elements.
There is always some emerging technology that allows the designers to upgrade the design.
For example, you have thousands of visitors and if you are unable to keep them on your page then it’s all for nothing.
Trust me, nobody likes a page that seems like has not been updated in five years.
Believe it or not, there are so many old websites still live but they are no longer in operation.
When your visitors come to an old looking websites, most of them will click away as quickly as possible and moving on to your competitors.
Therefore, having a modern website is essential to keep your website conversion alive.
You have used a cheap, template website that looks dodgy. failing to instill trust in the consumer or a potential lead is a real concern if your website is sending out the wrong message. Make sure your website has the following attributes that will instill more trust, loyalty and therefore sales.
- above all make sure the website looks attractive. Nothing worse than going to an ugly website. You know the ones I am talking about. hard to use, terrible graphics, incredibly slow, totally outdated. Need I go on?
- Include client testimonial for proof that you are a worthwhile agency.
- Any associations or organisations you belong to that add credibility should be added to the site.
- You have to have a physical address and phone number. Nothing looks more suspect than having no direct numbers and only a PO Box.
Make sure your branding is consistent. Keep colours the same site wide. Too many different colours will just dilute your brand. Also, avoid the use of too many stock images. Yes they are easy to get BUT people are so so over them.
Website Design Mistake #2: No Prominent Call to Action Button
Your website definitely has a goal. Whether you want your visitors to sign-up for a mailing list, make a purchase, request a quote, or simply call you, there has to be an objective and you have to make it clear to your visitors what your goal is.
In many cases, low conversion rates are a direct outcome of a call to action getting lost in the web design.
You need to ensure that your call to action button stands out on the page and makes it easy for the visitors to take the desired action.
Website Design Mistake #3: Slow Loading Time
Slow page load time kills your website conversions. Nobody wants to wait for a page on a website to load
Web users expect a site to load in 2 seconds or less, and they tend to abandon a site that isn’t loaded within 3 seconds.
A delay of even one second can reduce your conversions considerably.
There are many reasons that contribute to a slow loading time. Among them few common reasons are outlined below-
- Excessive use of Flash
- Images are too big
- Broken Links
- Too many plugins in use
- Bad Coding
You website loading speed should be as fast as Ferrari. Here are some tips to reduce your page load time-
- Optimise your images
- Minimise HTTP requests
- Utilise server side caching
- Limit 301 redirects
You have decided to go the cheap with your hosting company. What may seem like a great idea now is going to end up being a real pain in the ass. Nothing is worse than your web hosting either continuously going down or being ridiculously slow. Either way it’s a real conversion killer.
