Ep 778 | Take Heart, Nashville: Evil Will Not Win

Relatable with Allie Beth Stuckey

play

03/28/23 • 61 min

Today we're talking about a difficult topic – the shooting that occurred at a Christian school yesterday in Nashville, claiming the lives of six people, three of whom were children. We start with a word of encouragement, as emotions are high: God sees this, he is grieved by it more than any of us could ever be, and he will do something about it. We share our condolences to the families of the victims, one of whom was the 9-year-old daughter of a beloved local pastor. The shooter, a woman who identified as a man, was killed by brave police less than 15 minutes after they got the first call. We take a look at some of the rhetoric that's been spreading since the shooting, from news correspondents blaming conservatives to anti-Christian messages of "understanding" about the shooter's potential motive against Christians. We also look at trans activists' recent history of inciting violence against those they deem "genocidal." Yet despite the increasing tensions, we know whom we can take comfort in.

Relatable with Allie Beth Stuckey - Ep 859 | Why You Can't Be a Gay Christian | Guest: Dr. Christopher Yuan
play

08/21/23 • 78 min

Today we're joined by author, pastor, and Bible professor Dr. Christopher Yuan to discuss his incredible testimony and new video curriculum "The Holy Sexuality Project." We start off with his story of transformation from an agnostic gay man to a redeemed Bible professor. Not only did God turn his unbelief into belief right from a prison, but God also freed him from the bondage of drugs and promiscuity. Can you be a Christian and practice homosexuality at the same time? We answer this question and dive into why the biblical model for marriage is so important. Then, Dr. Yuan breaks down "The Holy Sexuality Project" and why it’s so important to talk with our kids about biblical sexuality in appropriate ways.

Today we discuss HBO's recent Nickelodeon documentary "Quiet on Set" that details alleged and proven instances of child abuse in the child-acting industry and specifically at the kids' network Nickelodeon. The series highlights the careers of Amanda Bynes, who famously struggled with substance abuse and mental health issues after she stopped acting, and Drake Bell, who has now come out with his own shocking and tragic testimony of being abused by a Nickelodeon dialogue coach. What does this mean for the acting industry at large? What should parents do if their children want to get into entertainment, and do kids have a place at all as the household breadwinner?

Relatable with Allie Beth Stuckey - Ep 1137 | Paula White & 'He Gets Us' Get Jesus Wrong
play

02/10/25 • 75 min

In today's episode, we go over the best and worst of yesterday's Super Bowl ads, from a tearjerker Google Gemini commercial to a cringe "anti-hate" commercial featuring Snoop Dogg. Of course, it wouldn't be a Super Bowl without the He Gets Us campaign running yet another commercial that completely misses the point of the gospel. At least players and even Nick Sirianni, the Eagles coach, gave glory to God before and after the game. And did Kendrick Lamar mock America, or was his halftime performance patriotic? Lastly, Trump named Paula White, prosperity gospel "pastor," the head of his new White House faith office. We go over some of her false teachings and distortions of the gospel and why, despite her closeness to Trump, she may not be the best person to head this important office.

Today we’re joined by professor and apologist Dr. Sean McDowell for part two on our discussion about reaching the younger generation with the gospel. We continue with a discussion about the age of the Earth and whether it actually matters to our understanding of the gospel. How do we reconcile scientific beliefs and faith, and how do we respond to those who claim Jesus didn't actually exist at all? We look at why Jesus stuck as the most significant cultural figure ever and explain how liberating his message was and is for women. We also talk about how Christianity changed the game when it came to dignifying both women and children for the first time in history. Then, we explain why mom and dad are so fundamental to a child's understanding of both social issues and the gospel.

Relatable with Allie Beth Stuckey - Ep 824 | 'Shiny, Happy People': The Real Problems with Duggar Theology
play

06/19/23 • 77 min

Today we're talking all about the Amazon Prime documentary "Shiny, Happy People," which focuses on the Duggar family and the greater theology behind their beliefs (Bill Gothard's Institute in Basic Life Principles). The IBLP and Gothard have been accused of legalism, double standards, and abuse within their doctrine. We start off with some issues the documentary presents as big problems within Duggar/IBLP theology, which include wives submitting to husbands, gender roles, and modesty, among others. We also share the problems we see with their theology, but discuss how many things like submission and gender roles themselves are actually biblical – the IBLP has just misconstrued, misinterpreted, and misapplied these Biblical commands to create a legalistic, graceless, gospel-less framework that oppresses and represses its adherents rather than setting them free. We share some of the shocking revelations from the documentary series and explain the frustrating angle the filmmakers took in conflating IBLP and fundamentalism with true gospel principles and beliefs.
