“Everybody has the giant inside of them.” - Brandi Harvey Let me ask you something, and I want you to be honest. What’s the point of making a resolution if you aren’t going to keep it? Also, how do you expect to keep your resolution if you’re not fixing the root of the problem? For example, the most common New Year’s resolution is to get in shape. You can go to the gym, and lose the weight but that alone isn’t going to keep the weight off. Your fitness doesn’t start at the body. Like most things in life, it starts at the mind and soul. You need to analyze what got you overweight, to begin with. Is it from emotional eating? Do you have bad habits, like rewarding yourself with a milkshake when you do something good? On this episode of the Redefining wealth podcast, we are joined by my good friend, Brandi Harvey. You probably recognize her as the daughter of popular TV show host, Steve Harvey, but much more than that Brandi is a wellness advocate, teacher and profound public speaker. Recently she’s started her own company BEYOND HER, which is still in its infancy. Download this episode today to hear her amazing insights on one of the most important pillars: Fit. “Nothing is going to stop you but you.” - Brandi Harvey The Cliff Notes: If you want results, you have to do things you’ve never done before. Don’t be the skinniest person in the room, be the healthiest. Sometimes you just need a nudge or word to wake up your inner giant. You only get one body to take care of. Our bodies need to be loved, respected and cared for. A part of our journey is respecting our temple. Whatever we do in the dark, it shows up in the light. You have to change all of your habits if you want to see results. You can’t out train a bad diet. What we put into our bodies has the ability to heal us, or to harm us. Greatness never goes on sale, it’s always full price. You have to consider what caused the weight to get there in the first place. A quick fix never lasts, you have to find the root of the problem. Everything is connected: Mind, Body, and Soul. Make sure you have the mental capacity to handle the things you want. Take the time to reflect on your feelings. To get the things that you want, you have to do the things you’ve never done. You have to be alone for the spirit to talk to you. Every great person has had a mountaintop experience. Many people use their faith as a cop out. You can’t pray about it and then forget about it. Don’t be afraid to surrender. “You can’t get ready for your life. It’s happening right now.” - Brandi Harvey

Are you the type of person who goes to bed thinking, “I didn’t do enough today,” “I didn’t accomplish all the things I had on my to-do list and I feel awful about it”? Too often, this is how we end our day, and it’s how we wake up the next day. But here’s the thing, feeling bad about yourself for not being as productive as you wanted to be doesn’t serve you. And it certainly isn’t going to boost your productivity because who’s going to be more productive when they feel like they’ve been bad? In today’s episode, I sit down with Tonya Dalton, author of The Joy of Missing Out and founder of inkWELL Press Productivity Co., a company centered around productivity tools and training, to dive further into this topic of to-do lists and priorities and how most of the things we check off our lists just leave us feeling incomplete and unhappy. This episode is brought to you by our complimentary Purpose Chasers community. Want to share your aha moments with a group of like-minded purpose chasers from all over the world? The Joy of Missing Out Takeaways So often we think life is meant to be endured, when truly it’s meant to be enjoyed. – Tonya Dalton We’re so busy chasing busy that we don’t give ourselves a chance to inhale so that we can exhale. – Tonya Dalton Give yourself permission to take back your power and choose what actually matters to you. – Patrice Washington We’re so busy people pleasing that we put ourselves at the very bottom of our own people-pleasing list. – Tonya Dalton We can’t shine our light on other people if our batteries always need recharging. – Tonya Dalton Self-care is not about spa days and pedicures; it’s about filling up your soul, not your calendar. – Tonya Dalton Quiet your soul – only then will you be able to see where God is pulling you. – Tonya Dalton When it comes to living that go-go-go lifestyle, it’s easy to get caught up in the busyness of it and think that productivity should outweigh our happiness. But that’s just not true – your happiness is more important than checking off a bunch of meaningless tasks. So I invite you to think about how you’re living each day. Are you checking off tasks that are truly important to you or are you checking off tasks and creating lists that are meaningless to your purpose? Redefining Wealth Rapid Wisdom Questions And with that, let’s dig into Tonya’s responses to our Redefining Wealth Rapid Wisdom Questions. Why is a morning routine important? How do you start one and what do you include? Is it just a morning meditation or can your routine include meditation, breakfast, going to the gym, journaling, etc.? In today’s episode, we’re kicking off 2020 with our Results NOT Resolutions series and I’ve invited Koya Webb, founder of Get Loved Up, an international lifestyle community and Yoga School, and author of Let Your Fears Make You Fierce, to share how she uses rituals to manifest results in her life. Koya is an internationally recognized yoga teacher, celebrity holistic health coach, author, speaker and vegan activist whose core mission is to promote daily self-care, oneness and eco-friendly living to combat some of the world’s biggest challenges including mental health, social injustices and global warming. Part of Koya’s message is if you’re serious about getting results and manifesting what it is you say you want, then you have to commit. You have to consistently –day-in, day-out – show up and do the work. Now, let’s dive in as Koya and I discuss this and more! This episode is brought to you by Purpose 2 Platform, my hands on business accelerator that gives spirit-led women the strategy to create more impact, influence and income with integrity. Schedule a call to see if I’m the coach for you! Rituals Create Your Results Takeaways Gratitude is the number one key to keeping us in alignment with love. – Koya Webb Expressing gratitude takes you out of victim mentality and puts you into that creator mentality. – Koya Webb Whenever you find yourself in any type of emotion that’s not love, happiness, joy or abundance, that’s fear. – Koya Webb Fear is feedback. When fear comes up, it’s telling you there’s a place within you that needs more love and attention. – Koya Webb I want you to see the person who offended you on a stage, for example, and imagine a bunch of good things happening to them. – Koya Webb When I know better, I have to do better and if I don’t, then I’m part of the problem. – Koya Webb Do you have a morning routine? Do you practice gratitude? One of the big hesitations people have around setting a routine is that they won’t commit to it every day. Discipline is not a punishment and it’s not perfection. If you’re just starting out, try to do one thing to process your emotions – practice gratitude, journaling, going for a walk, meditating, and so on. Do one thing that brings you joy and then build on it. Redefining Wealth Rapid Wisdom Questions And with that, let’s dig into Koya’s responses to our Redefining Wealth Rapid Wisdom Questions. Define Success: “Success is living in the vibration of love in everything that I do.” Define Wealth in 3 Words or Less: “Abundance in love.” One Book that Has Redefined How You See Wealth: Abundance Now by Lisa Nichols Fill-in the Blanks ... “My name is ___ and the truth about wealth is ___”: “My name is Koya and the truth about wealth is it’s available at all times and in all places.” LINKS: To advertise on the podcast: http://www.patricewashington.com/podcastads Become an Official Purpose Chaser: http://www.iamapurposechaser.com Join Patrice’s Pod Club: http://www.patricespodclub.com To check out ALL of our past guests + episodes: http://www.patricewashington.com/Listen If you have questions about booking Patrice or sponsoring the podcast, email us at [email protected]. Redefining Wealth with Patrice Washington - Grace + Ease: The Two Words I’m Adding to Every Goal This Year
play

02/15/18 • 25 min

“We don’t get what we want, we get what we believe.” How many times have you got excited about something, then you felt too overwhelmed to even start? Maybe you thought it was too complicated, or that there were too many steps? Most of the time we don’t achieve our goals because we talk ourselves out of them just as fast as we talked ourselves into them. If you want to be successful, don’t make it complicated in your head - because it’s really not. Let’s take this podcast for example. It started with an idea I was excited about. When I started thinking about how much work it was, it was overwhelming. I had to buy a microphone, I had to get software to record, I had to get it edited, find music for it, figure out how to get it published, where to get it published, get it on my website, etc. It was easy to feel like I was trying to move a mountain, but I hired a coach (THANKS, VERNON ROSS!) and found it wasn’t really that hard. I just had to get started and the truth is when the ball is rolling it’s easier to move. You just need to get started. On this episode of Redefining Wealth, we discuss the ways we make things harder than necessary, and we find excuses not to commit. Download this episode now and learn how you can overcome your excuses, and make your goals easier (and more fun) than binge watching Netflix. “Progress beats perfection EVERY single time.” The Cliff Notes: Sometimes we hold ourselves back because we worry about the stress and burden our goals will bring. Don’t talk yourself out of that million dollar idea. Take your dream and simplify it down to something you can tackle one piece at a time. Grace is the condition or fact of being favored. Ease is the absence of difficulty or effort. Nothing has meaning except for the meaning we attach to it. Don’t give yourself all year to get things done. Master fewer things as opposed to giving minimal effort to many things. You have the resources to get to where you want to go - now. Don’t be afraid to weed out people that aren’t a fit for you. “Think of yourself as already being favored to succeed.”

What are you feeding your spirit? Seriously, what are we putting into our bodies that’s positioning us to actually get what we say we want? The Holy Spirit placed so many lessons on my heart as I was locked away in a hotel room, snacking and working on my next book. It was like a blaring alarm went off, and at that moment, I realized I wasn’t just snacking physically. I was snacking spiritually, too. You see, I’d do some drive-by faith by getting in a devotional here or there. Vibe to some gospel music at the gym or drop a “preach, sis, preach” on a faith-based meme on social media, all the while convincing myself it was enough. But the truth is, I was snacking. And if snacking alone is not enough to nourish our bodies, how is it ever enough to feed our spirits? It’s not. I want you to know spiritual malnutrition is a serious condition that will leave you ready to pop off over insignificant things and incapable of living in the fullness of what you’re asking for, among other things. That’s why we must choose to make time to nourish our spirits on a daily basis. Now, have you ever thought to yourself, “I just need more hours in the day?” I know I have, so when I meet women with full lives and full plates who seem to do SO MUCH with joy, peace, style, grace and ease, I'm always quick to ask them the secret. When I met, Tina Black, a Paul Mitchell school owner, salon owner, author, podcaster, wife and mother how she does it all, she reminded me, “It's not about time management, it's about priority management.” Tina doesn't believe in letting life just happen, she believes in planning. She created BE A PLANNER to help us all get ready for our best decade ever! Be a Planner teaches you how to plan your quarter, month, week and day down to a tee. It helps you think through what you should be doing versus what you should be delegating. Success Leaves Clues, Purpose Chasers, and for just $30 for a year-long planner, I'm willing to see how much of what has helped Tina create her amazing success can be applied to my life for sure. To pick up your copy of “Be A Planner,” head to TinaBlack.net/SHOP. And let’s plan our way into a purposeful 2020 and beyond. Nourishing your spirit surely deserves a bullet on your daily to-do list just as much as the other things in your life, so plan it into your day. Spiritual Takeaways You can’t outwork a bad spiritual diet. There’s no need in wishing, hoping and praying for things you’re not spiritually strong enough to accept, embrace, hold, maintain and sustain. Faith is about believing in something greater, so if you say you believe in something, then you must make time to practice it. Don’t get so far it this wealth-building, business-building, brand-building and people-pleasing that now you think you can snack your way to spiritual victory. Spirituality is not a one-size-fits-forever thing. What you feed your spirit today may not be enough to nourish the vision that God has for you tomorrow. Let us know your biggest takeaway from this episode in the comments section. What changes are you willing to make to your spiritual diet? “What are you a slave to right now?” How many times have you bought a new dress but felt like you didn’t have anything to go with it? Even if that dress was a great deal, when you consider the shoes you bought to go with it, the earrings to match, and all of the other accessories it wasn’t cheap. Don’t worry though, you aren’t alone. We’ve all been there. In fact it’s so common there’s a name for it that psychologists use: The Diderot Effect. Society trains us to be over consumers. We are taught that we need look our best, to have things that show us off. All it takes is a simple shift in your mindset. When you purchase something, think about if you really need it. Will it really change your life forever? Is it something that you really needed yesterday, a year ago, or even ten years ago? Is it something you will use over and over and over again and day after day or is it just a temporary high? If the answer was no to any of those that means you probably don’t need it. You work hard for your money, and you should keep it. Don’t let spontaneous decisions take away from your wealth. If you aren’t sure, go home and sleep on it. If you still feel you need it the next day you can always go back and get it. And if it isn’t there, then the universe is sending you a sign that you didn’t need it. On this episode of Redefining Wealth we explore the Diderot Effect, and ways you can avoid the pitfalls of over spending. Download this episode today and learn ways you can avoid running yourself, and your wallet, ragged. “We buy things our previous selves didn’t need to feel happy or fulfilled.” The Cliff Notes: It’s tempting to overspend on things we don’t need and people don’t want. Most people really just want our time. It’s common for us to make one purchase that leads to more in accessories that we don’t need. This is known as the Diderot Effect If you buy something, give something away. Don’t allow yourself to be a slave to stuff. Buy things to be worn over and over again. Get pieces that fit into what you already have. View the show notes, links, and other resources at PatriceWashington.com/Listen

Redefining Wealth with Patrice Washington - How to Spot Scarcity Mindset in Your Decision Making and Transform It to Abundance
play

06/06/24 • 31 min

Hey Purpose Chasers, welcome to today's episode! We’re diving into something really important today: the scarcity mindset. This is what makes us feel like we constantly need to do more to secure our future, always worrying there won’t be enough. If you've ever thought something was too good to be true, you might be dealing with a scarcity mindset. We’re going to talk about how to spot it in your daily life and decisions and, more importantly, how to transform it into an abundance mindset.

I’ve been working closely with a lot of women in one-on-one mentorship sessions, and let me tell you, a scarcity mindset is a common struggle, no matter the income level. It’s not just about money—it can affect how we see time and opportunities too. Even if you’re earning well, this mindset can creep in. I know from personal experience that despite all the income, coaching, and personal growth I’ve achieved, I still sometimes fall into moments of scarcity. So, trust me, this episode is for everyone.

Scarcity mindset can be really subtle. It’s not just about being afraid of not having enough money; it can make you feel like there’s never enough time or opportunities. This mindset can stop you from showing up authentically and powerfully in every aspect of your life. In this episode, we’ll be taking a look at each pillar and the symptoms of a scarcity mindset in each. And if you are experiencing these signs in one pillar, odds are you’re experiencing them in others, too.

Be sure to listen to the end for an exercise that you can do right now to really assess how your mindset could mean you are living in scarcity.

Show Notes:

[7:46] - A scarcity mindset shows up in the FIT Pillar as negative self-talk and as neglecting self care.

[11:06] - In the PEOPLE Pillar, a scarcity mindset shows up often as comparing yourself to others.

[12:29] - If you lean into the scarcity mindset, you won’t show up authentically, consistently, and powerfully.

[16:54] - Hoarding is one of the ways scarcity mindset shows up in the SPACE Pillar.

[18:59] - A fear of missing out is a sign in the FAITH Pillar.

[20:28] - In the WORK Pillar, the evidence is in overworking and perfectionism.

[24:01] - There are a lot of signs of scarcity mindset in the MONEY Pillar.

[26:33] - Where might you be showing up in scarcity?

We are going back in time with another Redefining Wealth REWIND. You are a different person now than you were last year. If you are like me, and you are working on your goals for 2019 then this episode will be relevant for you. Today's episode is Results NOT Resolutions and it's a must listen to if you are thinking about what you want to create in the next 12 months. I give you three things to consider to stop breaking the same resolutions or goals year after year. CLIFF NOTES Instead of focusing on fluffy resolutions, try focusing on whatever area in your life that you really want to achieve results in. In order to get to the next level,it's not okay to make the same New Year's resolution and then break it year after year. The difference between making a resolution and actually achieving that resolution is commitment. Commitment takes more than interest. Interest is talking, researching, and praying about something, but not really making anything happen. Commitment is not based on how you feel. Committed people know they have to stick it out and go the extra mile when they don't feel like it. Commitment means completion. If we could stay the course and get to the other side, our breakthrough would be at the end of completion. Quotes from the show: “I have shifted my focus from resolutions to flat-out getting results. For me, it's about being committed to the result.” - Patrice Washington “Instead of writing really plain generic goals really focus on outcomes and obtaining results.” - Patrice Washington “Commitment is the difference between making a resolution on January 1st and obtaining it by December 31st or sooner.” - Patrice Washington “Talking, wishing, hoping, praying is very nice, but it doesn't make anything happen.” - Patrice Washington “You have to be great, even when you don't feel like it. Committed people go the extra mile.” - Patrice Washington Links: Finish Strong: Determine What’s Important Now How to Walk in Expectancy To apply for the Mastery + Momentum Mastermind: http://www.masteryandmomentum.com Become an Official Purpose Chaser: http://www.iamapurposechaser.com Join Patrice’s Pod Club: http://www.patricespodclub.com To check out ALL of our past guests + episodes: www.patricewashington.com/Listen If you have questions about booking Patrice or sponsoring the podcast, email us at [email protected].
