Redacted Island
Mitch Swenson
Redacted Island is all about getting tf out. Exitmaxxing. Escaping. I'm talking to people who break away from society—explorers, cult members, roleplayers, war reporters, libertarians, land artists, gamers, drug takers, and many more.
For over a decade, I've been asking people around the world about their general sentiment toward the future. The thing I keep hearing is that most of them dream, in one way or another, about leaving.
So I'm going to talk to the people who leave, whether it's for 30 seconds of a whippet hit or 30 years of living off-grid.
Have you ever thought about leaving? Let's go.

8. Fashion & Flowers w/ Chloe Nørgaard
Redacted Island
04/13/24 • 52 min
I first met @chloenorgaard in 2009 while we were models in Tokyo (lol). That was pretty much where my modeling career started and ended. But Chloe went on to become a shooting star. She’s not only been the face of some of the biggest brands in the world, but has also been on a mission to add more life and color to it ever since.
In this episode we remember what it was like playing mannequins in Japan (in the era before the iPhone), as well as talk about Chloe’s quest to plant flowers in urban landscapes from New York City to Addis Ababa.
Follow Chloe’s work at @wildflowerboom @chloenerdgaard and help preserve & bring more plant life and vibrance to gray places with @miamitropicalgarden & @rainbowoasiiis .
Just want to add—after our chat, Chloe clued me in to an autonomous zone movement in France called ZAD, or Zone to Defend (zone à défendre). These zones adroitly blockade construction to preserve nature. I’m planning to do an episode solely focused on ZADs (and hopefully visit one this summer with Chloe), but for now you can learn more about them in the book We Are ‘Nature’ Defending Itself by Isabelle Fremeaux and Jay Jordan.

In 2003 he left his conservative Mennonite community in Canada to hit the open road. He’s been writing about it ever since. You can read more about his excursions in his books Motorcycle Therapy and Through Dust and Darkness. He also has a great Youtube channel.
