168: The Evolution of Classic Rock Part 1
Records & Rockstars
02/16/23 • 25 min
Truth be told, radio helped, through its too-tight playlists, all but ruin the format, turned genre, "Classic Rock". And that's where the former iteration of Records & Rockstars came in. It was 2001 we created "The Legends of Classic Rock", designed to go deeper musically, and tell the stories behind the music. 22 years later, the series continues, with records we came to love and the stories around the artists who made 'em. And so comes the first in this four-part series, condensing decade by decade, how rock would evolve, beginning in Part 1 with the birth of the baby born of the blues, called Rock 'N' Roll. We think you'll enjoy this 25 minute podcast version of the weekly radio show. I mean, who spends two days cooking up a 25 minute podcast? Woods does. Weirdo. In a good way. Here's how he sounds with a wicked head cold.

163: Glenn Milchem of Blue Rodeo
Records & Rockstars
12/29/22 • 56 min
Glenn Milchem is best known as the drummer for the some 2000 concerts performed, and four million albums sold by Blue Rodeo, and he's also performed behind everyone from Big Sugar to Ian Thornley, Ian Blurton, Andy Curran, Art Bergman, and @joansmithandthejanedoes and @mrpharmacist
For Glenn's first visit to Records & Rockstars, he comes armed with a vintage Gibson J-45 acoustic guitar and does a couple of his own original songs!
Plus conversation finds Glenn telling stories about when he first knew he wanted to be a musician, why he chose drums, the one “straight job” he took on for a minute, plus the bands he's moonlighting with, as he names what he calls one of the greatest drumming records of all time, and speaks to Blue Rodeo's inductions, and songs, and current lineup, plus his love for The Sadies and for the dearly departed Dallas Good, and so much more.

217: Jeff Buckley's Mother and Jimi Hendrix's Sister
Records & Rockstars
04/04/24 • 21 min
With fans like David Bowie and Bob Dylan and Robert Plant, and close friends that included Chris Cornell, Jeff Buckley was an artists revered the world over for his unique talent. In the 1990’s Jeff got signed to Columbia Records, and made an album called GRACE, that can only be called essential. And then suddenly without warning in May 1997 Jeff Buckley was gone. At the time of his death, he had been working on a batch of new songs that, with a little help from his friends and Jeff’s mother, saw the light of day about a year after his passing. That’s when I had the good fortune to speak to Mary Guibert, about her son and his music and the final day of his life. And, the family affair continues, with my conversation with Jimi Hendrix's sister, Janie, about the life and times of the greatest rock guitarist in history.
