After King Viserys' death, the Small Council plots to crown Prince Aegon as king. Ser Criston kills Lord Beesbury when he objects to Rhaenyra being usurped, while Lord Commander Harrold Westerling resigns. Ser Otto delays announcing Viserys' death to fortify the council's position and he demands the nobles' fealty. Queen Alicent fails to gain Princess Rhaenys' support and keeps her captive.
When Otto has Kingsguards brothers Ser Erryk Cargyll and Ser Arryk Cargyll search the city for Aegon, while Alicent sends Criston and Prince Aemond. Mysaria, possibly the White Worm, informs Otto that Aegon is hiding in the Grand Sept. The Cargylls nab Aegon, but loses him to Criston and Aemond after a fight. Lord Larys Strong warns Alicent of Mysaria's spies within the Red Keep, including her Lady-in-Waiting; she has Larys burn Mysaria's house. Aegon has no desire to rule, but Alicent convinces him otherwise.
Meanwhile, King's Landing citizens are herded into the Dragonpit, where Otto announces Viserys' death and crowns Aegon as king. After Ser Erryk frees Rhaenys, she enters the Dragonpit dungeons for her dragon Meleys. Astride Meleys, she breaches the hall, causing devastation and confronting the royal usurpers; she spares them and leaves on dragonback.

2 RecommendationsSix years on, Corlys Velaryon, Lord of the Driftmark, is severely wounded fighting in the Stepstones. His brother, Ser Vaemond, petitions King's Landing to name him as Corlys' heir, proclaiming Rhaenyra's son, Lucerys illegitimate. Rhaenyra and Daemon return to the capital to defend Lucerys' claim. They find King Viserys is bedridden, disfigured, and his mind muddled. Queen Alicent and Ser Otto Hightower now oversee all royal duties. When Prince Aegon rapes a handmaiden, Alicent covers it up.
Upon Ser Vaemond's arrival at the Red Keep, Rhaenyra proposes an arrangement to gain Princess Rhaenys' support. She also implores Viserys to defend her succession, quoting Aegon the Conqueror's dream about the Prince That Was Promised. Ser Vaemond presents his petition at court. Viserys, barely ambulatory, enters the throne room and declares Lucerys the Driftmark heir. Enraged, Vaemond calls Rhaenyra's children bastards; Daemon beheads him.
During a feast, the family appears to mend their differences. After Viserys leaves, Aemond incites a fight with a veiled insult against Rhaenyra's three oldest sons. Later, Viserys, near death, mutters parts of Aegon the Conqueror's dream, mistaking Alicent for Rhaenyra; Alicent believes he means their son, Aegon.

2 RecommendationsIt's the finale of House of The Dragon & wow. What a season. Halfway through the episode, we're joined by our friend & current heir to the Iron Throne, Chef Targaryen.
On Dragonstone, Princess Rhaenys announces King Viserys's death and that Prince Aegon usurped the throne. Shocked, Rhaenyra goes into premature labor and suffers a stillbirth. Prince Daemon, believing Viserys was murdered, urges war. Ser Erryk brings Viserys' crown and Rhaenyra is declared queen. Ser Otto presents Aegon's terms for Rhaenyra's concession; she prevents Daemon from killing Otto and delays answering.
Privately, Daemon is angered that Rhaenyra may concede to unify the realm against the threat foretold by Aegon the Conqueror's dream. Rhaenys persuades Lord Corlys to pledge House Velaryon's allegiance to Rhaenyra's "Black" faction; Daemon plans to recruit more dragonriders, and awakens the large dragon Vermithor. Rhaenyra sends Princes Jacaerys and Lucerys as envoys to secure Houses Arryn, Stark, and Baratheon as allies. Lucerys meets with Lord Borros Baratheon, who refuses to support Rhaenyra, saying she offered him nothing.
Prince Aemond is also present, who, under Aegon's arrangement, would marry Borros' daughter. Aemond demands an eye from Lucerys as retribution. Lucerys leaves on his dragon, Arrax, but Aemond pursues him on Vhagar. The fractious dragons defy their riders' commands; Arrax burns Vhagar; incensed, Vhagar kills Lucerys and Arrax, stunning Aemond. Daemon informs Rhaenyra of Lucerys' death.
