Podcast Q&A

Why did you start this show?

When I originally started this show, it wasn't called the Ranger Ryan Show. We were a team of four friends / co-workers all representing different fandoms of pop culture. I started the show because I wanted to talk and let my opinions roam wild on the internet and see if anyone thought it was worth listening to. Now the show has evolved, all other members of the team have stepped away from the microphone, and only one remains... me.

What do you hope listeners gain from listening to your show?

If anything, I hope they are entertained and end the episode feeling like they just listened to a friend complain about things for thirty minutes or so and helped that friend get something off their chest. I do not imagine anyone will 'gain' anything for listening to my show, but it is important they at least feel involved in the conversation.

Which episode should someone start with?

Now that things have switched and all the older episodes have been locked away in a vault, I think starting at the beginning is your best option.

Which have been your favourite episodes so far?

Each episode is very different from the last and each episode ends with a different song. So to phrase the questions differently; I would ask which episodes closing song has been my favorite thus far--that would be Personal Journal (9/5/24).

Which episode are you most proud of?

I talk about my experiences each week, be it something to do with my kids, my house, my vacations, and so on. I think the 'At the Rock Show' episode from 9/19/24 is my most proud, because I was really able to vent about some things that have been concerning over the past few years and pay respect to one of my favorite bands of all time.

What is your vision for your show?

Moving forward my vision is to grow and evolve to a more participant based program. In the beginning of the shows, I am trying to encourage listeners to contact me via email and social networks to drive the show. Not to drive the show to success, but to drive the conversation. I encourage anyone reading this, to listen to 'Carnival Mardi Gras' 9/10/24, to get my contact information and reach out to me.

What is your favourite other podcast that isn't yours?

I listen to a lot of music-based podcasts, and I am always open to listening to new shows. In my subscriptions right now are 'After School Radio' and 'The Zane Lowe Show'. To be honest, I don't listen to my own podcasts--simply because (especially any with post production) all I here are my mistakes and ignore the point of the show.

How did you come up with the name for your podcast?

I hosted a show called 'The Liquid Gamer Podcast' back in 2013. When the show changed co-hosts in 2015 I worked with 'Donte Kong' and I was always jealous of the nickname. During 2020 when I was doing solo gaming shows, I wanted a nickname of my own. So with a reference to NCR Rangers I adopted the nickname 'Ranger Ryan' and over the next four years I continued to use it on different podcasts--officially changing my show in 2022.

Tell us a bit about yourself

Failed radio board operator turned podcaster in 2013. I spent a lot of my adult education in the Film Industry and have worked on several independent projects in both the video and audio space, be it at Public Access Television Stations or Low Rated FM Radio Stations. Started podcasting about video games and changed formats, titles, hosts, equipment, and opening music as many times as I can count. Settling now on a show 'about nothing' and talking 'about everything' for as long as I can.
