Russell Manser, an ex-bank robber and prison escapee now fights for survivors’ reparation by helping victims access justice through the legal system.
Russell Manser, himself a survivor of institutional child sexual abuse, is a committed champion for the rights of others who have experienced these traumatic and painful abuses.
Growing up in western Sydney, Russell was committed by a Children’s Court Magistrate to the adult Long Bay Jail, despite having just turned 17 years old.
He was housed with some of the state’s worst sex offenders, resulting in him being sexually abused repeatedly. His eventual heroin dependence also started there, after his abusers injected him several times with the drug.
Prior to this, Russell had already been struggling to cope with the trauma and anger of having been sexually abused in Daruk, the notorious juvenile detention centre.
After 23 years in and out of prison, Manser spoke at the Royal commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse. He handed the backpack of shame and guilt back where it belongs, to the perpetrators and those who should have ensured his care.

Danielle Hogan opens up on her incredible journey.
Having spent her childhood lost and eventually in the wrong crowd of people she was soon led down a path of selling drugs to the upper class of the eastern suburbs here in Sydney Australia.
Coming clean to her parents as the guilt sets in she was caught several weeks later by police and spent time in a female prison in NSW. Since leaving she's turned her life around and works as a youth worker and personal trainer out of https://www.confitgym.com.au/ where she also runs programs out of juvenile detention centres building young peoples self-esteem and acting as a role model and mentor to which they most likely do not have outside of prison.

Hung Chuy is the director of Strategic Brokers, the brokerage I now contract for... he has a super inspiring story, coming from nothing his father tried to escape Cambodia on 3 seperate occasions and he was born in a Thai refugee camp. Growing up in the western suburbs of Sydney he started life at maccas and found his feet through running poker tournaments at the age of 18, working in the banks and finally getting into mortgage brokering. He's now diversified into property investment, famously talks about "accidentally" paying off his mortgage and is expanding into large developments sites.
