Rap It Out - Lord Toph, The Art Genius
play

09/18/21 • 64 min

LORD TOPH is the founder, CEO, and Executive Producer of Monté CrisToph Multimedia. Monté CrisToph Multimedia (MC) is a realm of concept, sight and sound, dedicated to the visualization, development and distribution of music, art and literature across a wide range of genres. At MC, LORD TOPH works with an exclusive group of diverse artists to assist them in perfecting craft, and becoming professional-grade performers. By painstakingly overseeing every step of the creative process (composing, producing, songwriting and performing), LORD TOPH is able to guarantee the delivery of high-quality, original music. Music has always been an essential component of life for LORD TOPH. At a very early age he was introduced to different genres of music from various artists spanning over several decades. With both of his parents being big music enthusiasts, music was constantly being played throughout his household growing up. Being the youngest of four siblings (all boys), LORD TOPH became somewhat of a “music sponge” growing up. His passion for music grew quickly in his primary years. Paying close attention to the dance, movement, and vocal style of such artists like Michael Jackson, Sam Cooke, or Elvis Presley, LORD TOPH would often mimic these artists and later combine their moves to begin developing his own style. He began performing with songs by Al Green; songs like “Love & Happiness,” “Call me,” “You Ought To Be With Me,” and “Let’s Stay Together.” LORD TOPH is an artist, composer, producer and author. He has produced several songs for artists that have been part of his Monté CrisToph Music roster. He has written & composed for Folk Acoustic artist, Damen Samuel, Adult Contemporary artists Ebony Anne Isaac and Kyle Whitney, Hip Hop artist, SnowFlake Black, the Classic Blues/Rock act, The Tony Mazza Project, and several other independent artists. Having grown up in the South and being deeply influenced by the sound of Delta Blues, Classic Rock and Soul, he creatively finds a way to infuse these essential genres of music to create a sound all his own. Rap It Out - The Sixth Letter, A Formulated Compulsion
play

02/12/22 • 48 min

The Sixth Letter is a product of a compulsion to create. In its early form, lead singer Marx Morta would piece beats together on any equipment he could get his hands on. Whether that was a sampler with about 30mb of memory bounced onto a cassette - to dated old computers from his first job in an office. Music had to be made by any means necessary. Marx’s love for hip-hop and breaks led to a foray into djing, and while preparing sets he would include some tracks of his own. The crowds didn’t realise that the music he was playing was his and were loving it, and that energy spurred a new focus & belief. After spending the majority of time making music by himself and as tastes and preferences ebbed and flowed - so did the production and song writing. Plays on BBC Radio 1 by the likes of legendary DJ's Steve Lamacq and John Peel quickly followed. A need to collaborate was felt, and band was what was required. The songs took a different shape once they were played by individuals, and re interpreted. This was exciting. Hip-hop’s influence is never far away in TSL’s song writing, with rap verses and bridges blending effortlessly into melodic choruses. While nu metal can be tagged on to The Sixth Letter’s style, it’s the more creative end of the spectrum that they’re akin to - bands such as Snot, Incubus & Deftones have made a big impression on the band. That and punk / rock with band members (former and current) having spent many a week in a van touring in bands of that genre. Its that 'DIY' ethic that started everything - and it has come full circle into 2021. After some challenging times The Sixth Letter have a renewed focus, energy & desire to take on the world, one venue at a time. Don't you love bands? Make sure what's in store and more in their music!

What once was is no more. Musician, poet, in-the-feels guy from Austin, Texas. Also has pink hair. Self described as an “alternative indie hip-pop”. Michael also brings you along through his side project Heartbound, a post-hardcore/post-punk produced entirely by himself. He is also co-owner of Cigs & Black Coffee and a producer/engineer. He's an entire package, ironic because he also had a beautiful son (check out his instagram). Through his distinctive fusion of thoughtful lyrics and avant-garde sound design, Ricciardi has made a name for himself in the music business. Through his perceptive narratives and provocative poetry, Ricciardi allows his listeners to explore the depths of his viewpoints and experiences. His music creates a rich, sophisticated, and multifaceted soundscape by deftly fusing Hip Hop with electronic, jazz, and rock components. His work serves as a reminder of the life-changing potential of music and a monument to the strength of artistic expression. This interview is nothing different. We are speaking about his public and private life, new music and upcoming work, collaborations, memories, and all wrapped, sealed, and delivered! Including music news from Heartbound. Plus, forgot to mention, he has a podcast called The Sceneish Podcast. Whenever you get time, be sure to check out all his other projects and stay tuned.
