Radical Act of Dismantling Goal Setting As We Know It with Guest Tara McMullin
Raise Your Volume Academy with Tiphany Kane, M.Ed.
10/04/22 • 58 min
Tara McMullin loves talking about the intersection of work and culture. She has been studying how small business owners build their companies, present themselves online, and interact with the culture at large for over 14 years.
"Shoulds" and "supposed-tos" are exactly what keep us from radical audacity. Those stories reside in what we've learned about power, status, and how to achieve them. We go with what we're supposed to do so that we can feel like we have some control in a world that would prefer to control us.
Tara's book, "What Works: A Comprehensive Framework To Change the Way We Approach Goal Setting" is an antidote to the relentless pursuit of "more" and the culture of striving that we live in. Tara's goal is to help people dismantle those "should" stories and rebuild an infrastructure for growth that's not based on climbing the ladder or achieving individual success at the expense of others.
Tara is a speaker at the Raise Your Volume Summit on October 19, 20 & 21. Register for the Summit here.

Radically Disrupting Scientific Stereotypes with guest Leah Elson
Raise Your Volume Academy with Tiphany Kane, M.Ed.
05/16/23 • 62 min
Close your eyes and get a picture in your head of a scientist...what does the scientist look like? did you picture an older white man that looks a bit like Bill Nye The Science Guy...or did you picture someone that looks like Neil deGrasse Tyson? Did you picture a man OR did you picture a woman?
My guest this week is working hard to disrupt the stereotype of a scientist being a man...and she is smashing pseudo-science misinformation...all while having the perfect cat-eye and deadlifting the equivalent of a small car!
Leah Elson is a clinical development scientist, non-fiction author, and passionate public science communicator. Her 14-year career in medical research has included the fields of orthopedics, novel biotechnology, oncology, and neuroscience. She is the creator and host of the popular web series “60 Seconds of Science,” as well as the creator and host of “The String Theory Podcast.” Leah found these electronic platforms to be much safer alternatives for public science outreach, following the accidental combustion of her favorite shower curtain, while demonstrating the principles of a dual-phase rocket engine, live on camera.
Leah's highly-anticipated debut book is due for release on June 27, 2023, championed by Blackstone Publishing. There Are (No) Stupid Questions... In Science is a hilarious and poignant, non-fiction piece, which answers the internet’s most curious scientific questions.

The Audacity of Choosing Love with Guest Scarlett Lewis
Raise Your Volume Academy with Tiphany Kane, M.Ed.
07/14/22 • 68 min
Scarlett Lewis is the mom of little 6-year old Jesse Lewis who was murdered in the Sandy Hook Elementary shooting in 2012. At six years old, Jesse, alongside 19 of his first-grade classmates and six educators, died. Yet law enforcement says Jesse used his final moments to heroically save nine of his friends.
Before his death, Jesse left a message on their kitchen chalkboard, “Norturting Hellin Love” (Nurturing, Healing Love). When Scarlett learned that these words are included in the definition of “compassion” across all cultures, she realized that love, connection, and belonging are universal wants and needs that connect all of humanity.
Shortly after his death, Scarlett decided to be part of the solution to the issues that we’re seeing in our society today—and that also caused the tragedy. She created the Choose Love Movement and became an advocate for character development and social and emotional learning (SEL), which teaches children how to manage their emotions, feel connected, and have healthy relationships.
