As we began compiling this week's episode, tragedy struck the Metal world. We lost one of the all time greats in L.G. Petrov, mainman behind the legendary Entombed. So we decided a fitting tribute was in order. To assist us we enlisted the insights of Aaron Price. Mr. Price is a scribe for the new "Fistful Of Metal" magazine. We sat down and discussed all things Entombed: our fave album, song and our discovery of the band. And probably most importantly, we predict the future of an Entombed incarnation without the main mouthpiece. No L.G. = No Entombed? In our "News, Views and Tunes", we acknowledge the passing of Lou Otten, the inventor of the cassette, and our experiences with the medium. Plus, Rob Zombie remaking The Munsters??!! Musically, we crank some Nihilist, Cryptopsy, Entrails, Wolf King, Witchtit, Revel In Flesh and introduce Cerbearus in the week's "Indie Spotlight". Horns Up and Stay Healthy!

Radioactive Metal - Episode 646: Kvlted!! - interview with Culted
play

03/12/21 • 97 min

This global crisis has radically altered a lot of things and the way we go about doing them. For musicians, it's the lack of live performing and the challenges of trying to jam/write new material. For Season Of Mist recording artists Culted... well, not much has changed. With 3/4 of the line up hailing from Winnipeg, Canada, and the other 1/4 residing in Sweden, the entire band has never been face to face. With the new album "Nous" on the racks, it's a good time to get multi-instrumentalist Micheal Klassen back on the show. We discussed the band's new record, their unique situation, and made vocalist Daniel Jannson an honorary Winnipegger! This chat sparked our own discussion in our "News, Views, and Tunes", going over what constitutes a "local band" and when/if the designation changes with international success. Musically, we crank the new Culted + cool stuff from Terror, Tombs, Venomous Concept, Sleepless, Meth Leppard, Direct Action, Demoniac and introduce Vancouver bashers Anarcheon in our "Indie Spotlight". Horns Up and Stay Healthy!!

Radioactive Metal - Episode 812: Yesterday And Today
play

12/08/24 • 135 min

Remember when you were a kid and you hated brussel sprouts? As you got older, your palette may change and evolve to where those evil little veggies may not taste so bad. The same can be said for musical tastes. Particularly towards specific artists or even entire subgenres. We all have those specific bands that really didn't turn our crank at the time. But now you find yourself front row centre. What are some of those artists for you? In our "News, Views and Tunes", we celebrate music pioneer Wendy Carlos, discuss Knocked Loose on Jimmy Kimmel and call out a domestic abuser! Musically, we crank some Massacre, D.R.I., Sarcofago, Havok, Mutank, Underdog (Ger.), Crossfire, Sidewalk and introduce Gravemass in our "Indie Spotlight". Horns Up!!

We're convinced there's more than one Matt Harvey. Somewhere about 10 years ago while on tour driving on a Texas backroad, Mr. Harvey was abducted by aliens. He was cloned then unleashed upon an unsuspecting Metal world. All of this is judging by the amount of creative output the man has given us. Most noted for his death metal band Exhumed, Mr. Harvey is involved in a number of amazing outfits. The most recent is the new record "Breaking The World" from trad metallers Pounder. Being old buds with the show, we had a great chat about the new album, the back story with Carcass' Tom Draper and his unofficial connection to pro wrasslin'. In our "News, Views, and Tunes", we crank the new Pounder plus some rereleased classic Sacred Reich, Harlott, Holocausto, Savage Master, Tyrant, Wooded Stake, Terminal Bliss and introduced Canadian rockers Feed After Midnight in our "Indie Spotlight". Horns Up and Stay Healthy!!

"It's Party Time!!" It's no secret that the amazing zombie punk flick "Return Of The Living Dead" is an all time fave around the RAM offices. The classic horror comedy has it all - zombies, splatter, "Scream Queen" Linnea Quigley, and, of course, a kick ass soundtrack! So this Halloween season we 're going to pay tribute to ROTLD with another watch along. The idea is simple. Download this episode or find it on Spotify. Slap in your DVD (or streaming). Then, 3, 2, 1...press play. And watch along with our insightful (yeah right) commentary. For this special presentation, we enlisted Snowy's cohort from our sister show "Wrestling Night In Canada", Mr. Matt Copper. A gentleman who is also a long time connoisseur of horror and lover of this flick. So grab a cold one and join us in enjoying Return of The Living Dead!! Horns Up and Stay Healthy!

It's that time again. Generally as a rule, music awards mean two things to heavy music fans - jack and shite'! But we do seem to take notice when it comes to the categories that mean something to us. With the grammys in the can, we can now focus on the upcoming Junos, the Canadian equivalent. Specifically, the Heavy Metal Album of the Year Award. So with that in mind, we're going to forego a "Creature Feature", and delve into our thoughts and picks from this year's nominees. As well, we pay tribute to Gerri Miller, editor pf the great Metal Edge magazine. Which took us down a rabbit hole discussing our past experiences with the wonderful world of metal mags. In our "News, Views, and Tunes", we crank tunage from Helstar, Depths Of Hatred, Caskets Open, Bikini Kill, Vile Creature, Unleash The Archers and introduce San Diego metallers Monarch in our "Indie Spotlight". Horns Up and Stay Healthy!

I guess we just can't get enough Marta! Earlier this year we spoke with Crystal Viper vox Marta Gabriel. We discussed the band's latest effort "The Cult". Not one to rest on her laurels, Mrs. Gabriel followed that up right away, dropping a cool comp. of covers. "Metal Queens" pays tribute to all the amazing vocalists that helped shape Marta's awesomeness. This time we discussed the new record and all the legendary figures that assisted her with it. All making for an excellent listening experience. In our "News, Views, and Tunes", we discuss the going-ons in the Nunslaughter and Fabio Frizzi camps!! Musically, we crank Marta's new album as well as the aforementioned Crystal Viper, Exhumed, Hellion, Mental Cavity, Amenra, Fulci, Cerebral Rot and Nunslaughter!! Horns Up and Stay Healthy!!

Radioactive Metal - Episode 649: Hel Awaits! - interview with Helstar
play

04/04/21 • 156 min

Veteran rockers are getting the best of yesterday and today. Today's scene is full of young talent. And the old guard is still creating killer tunes. Texas metallers Helstar are a great example of the old guard giving the upstarts a run for their moolah. Helstar have a wicked new record on the racks entitled "Clad In Black". A cool comp. featuring new singles, cover tunes, and a re issue of the killer "Vampiro" album. So it's a good time to get vox/mainman James Rivers on the horn. We discussed said record, the 80s TX metal scene, and his obvious vampire obsession. In our "News, Views, and Tunes", we go over Jon Schaffer's "Do Over" and those very unique Motorhead bullets. Musically, we crank new and used Helstar plus Blaspherian, Agent Steel, Motor Jesus, Bullet Belt, Steel Baring Hand, live Autopsy, new Hell's Headbanger's signees Nocturnal Departure and intro Toronto metallers Devilz By Definition in our "Indie Spotlight". Horns Up and Stay Healthy!

Radioactive Metal - Episode 792 - "Stay Hungry, Canada"
play

07/05/24 • 144 min

The classic album "Stay Hungry" from the legendary Twisted Sister is one of Metaldom's most celebrated efforts. The singles spoke to us. Some songs creeped us out. Most importantly, it scared the hell out of the non-believers that needed the fright. It also turns 40 this year! So we gave it the deep dive treatment in our continuing '84 Anniversary albums. We go over how we discovered this platter, the effect and influence on the biz it had and do a track by track dissection. Enjoy, SMFers! In our "News, Views and Tunes", it's Canada Day! So Aaron gave Snowy some trivia about Canada (Can you believe the animal was not a Moose?!?). Musically, it's all Canadian artists feat. Sacrifice, Razor, Thor, Kick Axe, Nocturnal Departure, Assault, Buchoffuckinggoofs, Varga, Malhavoc, Overthrow, Society's Grudge, Yer Mum and Chocolate Bunnies from Hell. Horns Up!
