Brian Ruby, a gay professional baseball player and country singer made headlines in 2021 when he publicly became the only out while active player. Bryan made a powerful statement that his identity as a gay man and his love for baseball can coexist. His actions are an example of how knowing someone in the LGBTQ+ community changes one's worldview and diminishes the "them versus us" mentality. He was vulnerable and had much to lose by taking the giant step publicly and you'll find hope and inspiration through his story.
Bryan also discusses the creation of Proud to Be in Baseball, a non-profit organization that supports LGBTQ+ athletes in baseball and creates a sense of community for them.
In addition, as a rising country music artist, Bryan Ruby won Season 7 of the talent-search competition Nashville Rising Song, and his first single, ‘Left Field’, was featured on The TODAY Show and added to rotation on SiriusXM Country Pride, as well as the Academy of Country Music's Ultimate Pride Playlist.

Do you know actors such as William Shatner, Chris Pine, Leonard Nimoy, Kate Mulgrew, George Takei, and others may have Lucille Ball to thank for advancing their careers? Without her, Star Trek may never have happened. And that's a small part of our discussion.
Tony Maietta is a man of many talents: actor, host, producer, writer, and author. His passionate and insightful tales of Tinseltown's golden era will have you leaning in to hear more. From his personal journey to LA in the 90s, with nothing more than dreams of an Emmy, to his intimate knowledge of Hollywood's transformation over the years, Tony enlightens us about the evolution of the film industry, the fading era of relationship-focused films, and the impact of CGI.
Tony delves the intricate life of Lucille Ball, a showgirl turned comedic genius turned Hollywood studio president, a feat few could even dream of achieving. We delve into Lucy's perfectionism, her unwavering loyalty to her friends, and her immense impact on popular culture.
We also discuss Grey Gardens, the now-celebrated mansion chronicled in a documentary and two feature-length films. Tony Maietta and Jerry Torre co-wrote a memoir on Jerry's time at the mansion.

Ever wondered how a film from the 90s shaped the contemporary queer landscape? Philip Bahr dives right in and breaks down the iconic 1994 Australian film 'The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert.' It's a frothy, fun, and deeply impactful film that still holds significance in the current political climate. He sifts through its layers, characters, and the harsh reality of that era, as well as elements of the film that may not have aged particularly well.
Brad is on vacation so rather than replay an older episode he offers one from one of his favorite podcasts. Reel Charlie Speaks is an LGBTQ podcast spin-off of the film and television review blog, Reel Charlie, which has been looking at movies and TV from a gay male perspective since 2009. Each month the host, Philip Bahr, selects a classic queer film, television series, or creator. He talks about how the subject spoke to him when he first discovered it years ago, and how it stood the test of time. Spoilers possible. Alerts always.

Ready to embark on a melodious journey into the world of film music? Join Brad in an enlightening conversation with the extraordinary David Gonzalez, who has lent his mesmerizing musical talent to film and talent. David's insights on the significance of music in film – from its indispensable role during the silent movie era to its power to amplify cinematic brilliance in the present day – are nothing short of remarkable.
David's astute understanding of balancing sound effects' frequency ranges while scoring a busy action scene is just one of the many technical aspects that make him a maestro. Get ready to delve into the importance of a composer’s ego (or lack thereof) while creating a score that serves the narrative and not just their personal ambition.
As we progress, we turn our attention to the profound impact of documentary filmmaking and how it becomes a strong voice for marginalized communities. We discuss the importance of queer representation in film and television, emphasizing the need for characters to be more than just their sexuality. David and I also touch upon the controversial topic of straight actors playing gay roles. Brace yourself for an episode packed with insightful discussions on music, film and beyond.

The title of this episode is a take on Dale Carnegie's quote:
“Remember that a person’s name is to that person the sweetest and most important sound in any language.”
Should you greet an employee at an establishment? They are wearing name badges, after all. Survey's say some like it, some hate it, and some don't care either way. So, what's a good way to approach it? Brad offers a suggestion.

Celebrating America's LGBTQ+ History
Queer We Are

The American National LGBTQ+ Museum's Executive Director, Ben Garcia, gives us a snapshot of the upcoming landmark as it blossoms to an exciting reality. We delve into the remarkable journey to open a physical museum in New York City in 2026, along with eight dynamic traveling exhibitions set to bring LGBTQ+ history and experiences right on people’s doorsteps across America.
As we wander the virtual corridors of the museum-to-be, Ben unveils the thoughtfully curated exhibitions that will grace the hallways and the memorial space planned to honor members of the LGBTQ+ community who have passed. We also navigate the streets of New York City, painting a vivid picture of why this city, rich in diversity and steeped in LGBTQ+ history, is the perfect choice for the museum's location. Ben also shares about the strong bond forged with the New York Historical Society and the incredible tide of funding support from numerous organizations and government levels.
But this isn't just about a museum; it’s about activism and advocacy. Ben opens up about his personal story of coming out and how it has shaped his commitment to activism. We explore how this museum project is a crucial part of the broader battle for LGBTQ+ equality and how each of us can extend our support.

Embark on a journey of self-discovery and inspirational leadership with Jim Fielding, the quintessential queer executive, who opens the pages of his life in "All Pride, No Ego." During his impressive corporate career, he has been president of Disney Stores and CEO of Clair's, but it's the deeply human experiences that shape his narrative. As we peek into Jim's personal journals that paved the way for his book, we uncover the profound influence of authenticity in both personal triumphs and professional endeavors. His story isn't only about climbing the corporate ladder; it's a lesson in finding one's identity amidst the towering expectations of society and the corporate world.
The conversation takes us through the corridors of Jim's past—from the art of retail perfection at The Gap to the enchanting leadership at Disney Store. We follow his path of coming out, the familial strains it initially caused, and the subsequent, heartfelt transformation into a network of support. Jim's personal anecdotes illustrate the struggles and victories of living authentically and how they profoundly enrich one's approach to leadership. We also celebrate the release of "All Pride, No Ego," a must-read for anyone on a quest for authenticity in life and leadership.
