Punisher: Body Count

Welcome back, Punisher fans! We got quite a show for you today, as we look at a seminal Punisher story, in its past and present incarnations, as well as begin our pre-mourning over Punisher MAX coming to an end.

0:00 Introduction - I bitch about the YMCA’s pricing policies and Jake shows how you can become father of the year as we discuss his guest spot on Will Strack’s Dad Wants a Section 8 podcast. We also bring up some sweet Punisher news involving a new Marvel crossover called “The Omega Effect.”

13:52 Mail Call - We got the opposite of last show’s mail, which means a whole lot of nothing. But we do have an offer for our fans, so listen in!

48:48 Bullet Points - We review Punisher MAX #21 and Punisher #7. Tears are shed as we near the end of the MAX run, but we still find things to bitch about, like Vanessa becoming the new queen of New York via King of the Hill-style tactics. In Greg Rucka’s comic, Jake and I argue about decompression and artistic license again, proving why you can’t have a math guy running a podcast with a liberal arts major.

1:03:10 Flashbacks - We talk about Mike Baron’s Punisher #10 and Ann Noccenti’s Daredevil #257, which both deal with the Zumatrin killer, but each comic show’s each character’s perspective on the issue. Our final judgment on the comics may surprise you! Also, John Romita Jr.’s art is awful.

1:49:18 Discharge Papers -Apes, Churchill, Comixology, piracy, and the future of digital comics are discussed. Also, the Matrix gets reloaded... by us.

Punisher Body Count: Episode 13

Happy New Year, let’s get started. Our contest has come to an end, and the winners are announced within the first minute of the podcast.

0:00 Introduction - Jacob and I talk about family and Christmas, and we also have an intervention on an apparent addiction of mine. We also discuss the contest details, as well as how Arnold Schwarzenegger’s bastard child is a ticking time bomb.

19:50 Mail Call -Good lord, this Mail Call. We go through a lot of topics here, such as the Punisher’s Island of Misfit Villains, Howard Chaykin, the Punisher’s guest appearance on the 90s Spider-Man cartoon, gun nuts who write corrections to the Punisher fan mail section, and so much more. Remember people, large and in charge.Oh, we also deal with the continuity issues between Punisher 616 and MAX, which can be a headache if you make it one.

48:48 Bullet Points - We review the penultimate MAX issue of Aaron’s run, where Frank fights Elektra and the final tragic pieces fall into place for February’s issue. Overall, it’s a great issue, and there’s some great touches on Frank’s early years. Jake notices an artist’s error, and I make a quibble about subtly.

1:11:00 Flashbacks - Due to overwhelming popular demand, and by that I mean Jake suggested it over text, we review Mike Baron’s G-Force. The gist? Frank chases a cocaine-dealing French millionaire to a space station. Also, we learn that even when a criminal shoots heroin into your system, that’s no excuse for bad hygiene.

1:53:18 Discharge Papers - I recommend Limitless and Bad Lieutenant: Port of New Orleans, which are nutty in their own ways. We also get financial tips from Nicholas Cage. Jake feels a bit dirty after watching Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, and may not not be able to do a certain sexual act. We also talk about the rise and fall of the Matrix movies. I continue my horror streak by trying to describe the madness that is Franken-Fran. Jake wraps things up by revealing how he made his wife a bigger nerd.

Punisher Body Count: Episode 15

We’re back, baby! But really, were we ever really gone? Not if you’re on our facebook fan page!

0:00 Introduction - Jake let’s us know how how the Superbowl has wrecked his fair city of Indianapolis, and I talk about how I got unduly angry at a magic 8 Ball. Jacob and I also discuss the etymology of “weeaboo.”

14:58 Mail Call - Hey speaking about weeaboos, we created a small list of anime and manga recommendations for Punisher fans. Some of the stuff I’m sure you’ve heard of, but hopefully you can find some gems in our list. Big thanks to Blackstone for the idea, and if you have some ideas of your own, post on the fan page or on the comments below! We also answer a letter about the idea of a female Punisher, which has existed before and is being somewhat explored right now in Rucka’s Punisher. We also have some minor news about Ann Nocenti.

52:02 Bullet Points - We review Punisher #7. Marco Chechetto is back, and I couldn’t be happier. Jake’s decompression argument starts to turn me, and overall we just agree that we need a new turn to the story, or at least some new information on The Exchange and the death of Rachel’s husband. Still a well put together comic, go buy it.

1:10:20 Flashbacks - We begin part 1 of our intercompany crossover segments. In today’s line up:

I know those have #1 in the title, but none of them are continued beside the Batman crossover. Overall, they are riddled with stupidity and we were surprised at how positively Frank was portrayed. If we didn’t get to your favorite crossover comic, sit tight, we’ll get to it.

1:57:10 Discharge Papers -We talk about the disappointing situation with the Before Watchmen comics, and Jake just watched Gran Torino, so we talk about that.
