Punch Drunk TV 120: Ted Bundy, Carmen Sandiego and The Black Dahlia ... Oh My!
02/01/19 • 136 min
This week, we're faced with a bunch of horror reboots for the small-screen which could be good or bad news, depending on how you look at it. We also touch on those big TV winners from this past weekend's SAG Awards -- and you'll never guess who won Best Stunt Ensemble. Jack's wife, JoEllen, wants to know ... have you accomplished any of your New Year's Resolutions? Or are you like Aaron and prefer to make goals, instead?
NEWS HIGHLIGHTS THIS WEEK:
- A "Resident Evil" TV series, from the same people behind the movies, is in the works at Netflix.
- Nick Antosca is developing a "Child's Play" TV series with original movie creator Don Mancini at SYFY. And according to Antosca, "Chucky can say 'fuck' on SYFY."
- CBS All Access has ordered a 10-episode mini-series remake of "The Stand."
- Season 2 of "Killing Eve" will air on both BBC America and AMC to broaden its reach.
- "Rent Live" was Fox's lowest-rated musical. Only 3.42 million people tuned in during the three-hour long event -- which definitely wasn't "live."
AARON'S LOSERS: "The Punisher" and "Rent: Live"AARON'S FENCERS: "Black Monday," "Future Man," "Friends From College" and "The Ted Bundy Tapes"JACK'S FENCERS: "Conan" and "The Umbrella Academy" AARON'S WINNERS: "Carmen Sandiego," "The Passage" and "I Am the Night"JACK'S WINNERS: "The Good Place," "Deadly Class," "Broad City," "The Other Two," "Carmen Sandiego" and "Hot Ones" (w/ guest Gordon Ramsay)

Punch Drunk TV 119: The CW ... Where Disney Teens are DTF
Aaron here -- after taking a week off my wife, her mother, my baby and I all got hit with the flu, we have returned for Episode 119 of Punch Drunk TV. There's a lot we go over in this episode, including the multiple Fyre Festival docs that hit streaming last week. Before we kick things off, Jack's wife JoEllen poses a question to us and you Clinkers: How would you describe The CW? Because they definitely have their own very specific brand going on.
NEWS HIGHLIGHTS THIS WEEK:
- The CW has ordered a musical dramedy spinoff of "Riverdale" titled "Katy Keene."
- The CW also ordered a "Lost Boys" TV series which will no longer be an anthology series but, as THR says, will be "set in Santa Carla and explores the secret underworld of vampires. After the sudden death of their father, two brothers move to Santa Carla with their mother, who hopes to start anew in the town where she grew up. But the brothers find themselves drawn deeper and deeper into the seductive world of Santa Carla's eternally beautiful and youthful undead."
- "Queer Eye" will go to Tokyo for four episodes in its next season. The special four-episode installment, titled "Queer Eye: We're in Japan!," will premiere on Netflix after Season 3 of the series drops later this year.
- Netflix is rebooting "Unsolved Mysteries" from the show's original producers. According to THR, "the new series will follow a similar format to its predecessor, which first aired on NBC in the late 1980s. Each of the 12 episodes will focus on a single mystery — the broadcast version had multiple cases per episode — and like the original, will enlist viewers' help in solving each case."
- Showtime has bought the rights to a four-part docuseries titled, "Wu-Tang Clan: Of Mics and Men." The first two episodes will premiere at the Sundance Film Festival and then the series will air on the network in the spring.
- A Fyre Festival-inspired GoFundMe campaign for Bahamian restaurant owner Maryann Rolle has raised more than $100,000 to help her with the debt she went into during the disastrous music event.

Punch Drunk TV 121: From Weird City, With Love
We're back after a week hiatus and, while Jack and I are both exhausted, we've still found time to drink and yell about TV -- for your aural pleasure, of course.
It's also the end of this year's Winter Television Critics Association press tour and I may have hung out with the "American Gods" cast ... and I may have told Emily Browning that Jack requested I throw her in a sack. And it may have made things a bit awkward. You'll just have to listen to find out!
