Protect and Serve

Oliver Laurence

My name is Oliver Laurence,

I spent over twelve years as a police officer serving in some of the harshest environments Australia has to offer, now working as a Senior Investigator - Security, Intelligence and Crisis Management expert in London, I’ve had the chance to meet and speak with some of the men and women of law enforcement who found themselves at the frontline of the world’s most infamous investigations.

I'll chat with the men and women on the front line of events such as 9/11 to the investigation into Jimmy Saville, taking down the 'Teflon Don' John Gotti and even having to pull the trigger to stop a terrorist on a murderous rampage on the streets of London.

I’ll sit down with these brave men and women to hear their first-hand accounts of these events and how they got there.

Welcome to Protect and Serve

Simon now lives in Woolton Hill, near Newbury, Berkshire, where he is often out cycling or walking his dogs, always thinking about new story lines and plots.

Simon has a master’s degree in Applied Criminology, awarded by Cambridge University. His writing combines his policing knowledge with his academic knowledge, plus of course, a good dose of storytelling.

Simon had the idea for his first novel in 2013 but could never find the time to write. The coronavirus lockdown of 2021 provided him with the time to commit to writing HIDDEN BY THE LAW, the first of the Seth Hannen stories.

Jason Semple is a career cop. A guy who has faced down some of the biggest challenges that policing could throw at anyone. There is no greater challenge than lying on the footpath, bleeding to death and remembering about a book you read which trained the mind to relax, a book that Jason would agree probably saved his life. He has had an incredible policing career, both inside and outside of uniform, and we recall it all, during this chat on Protect & Serve.

Protect and Serve - A young man on a mission - Jay aka
play

02/26/24 • 28 min

ACC Jay aka @ShortArmOfTheLaw is a young man on a mission.

A police enthusiast from a very young age Jay has been supporting and championing policing up and down the country. His stories, activities, and bright personality light up thousands of policing faces up and down the country.

Jay is currently on a new fundraising mission.

Every year Jay pushes himself to do what he can to support Care of Police Survivors aka COPS, he does this because far too many of our amazing officers die on duty.

This time he will be doing the bleep test every week this year.

Police officers go out every shift to serve their communities and protect us, but unfortunately not all come back home to their families.

Jay supports the fantastic work COPS do to support the families of those who didn’t come back home to them. Forever heroes 💙💙

COPS provides peer support opportunities and access to counselling services to help surviving family members (‘survivors’) rebuild their shattered lives.

"Your loss is a part of who you are but COPS helps you realise that it doesn’t define you. We are all one big family."

Since its foundation in 2003, COPS has helped hundreds of police families devastated by the loss of a loved one who died on duty.

Please if you can, look up Jays Go Fund Me and support a young man making a big difference.
