Top 10 Projecting Film Episodes

Goodpods has curated a list of the 10 best Projecting Film episodes, ranked by the number of listens and likes each episode have garnered from our listeners. If you are listening to Projecting Film for the first time, there's no better place to start than with one of these standout episodes. If you are a fan of the show, vote for your favorite Projecting Film episode by adding your comments to the episode page.

Web Bist of TRILOGY IN THEORY co-pilots all for the love of Hayley Atwell.

But don't worry all you level-headed listeners... Vanessa Kirby also get a lot of love. As does the latest entry in the Christopher McQuarrie helmed entries to the Ethan Hunt saga which also doubles as yet another attempt to kill Tom Cruise. As the last remaining Hollywood showman will this film stand the test of time? In short, we don't care. This movie was a blast.

What one host does care about is settling scores with all the internet haters of John Woo's CLASSIC version and wants it on the record that his forty plus watches of MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE 2 were not in vain.

We hope you join us by supporting our Patreon Movie Book Club episodes and not deciding to read!

Projecting Film - After BARBIE We Play w/ TOYS at the SOBER CINEMA
play

07/26/23 • 33 min

Joan Cusack was the Robot Barbie ahead of her time.

I don't know if that's a spoiler because it was honestly hard to follow Barry Levinson's fever dream passion project TOYS. We debate the creep factor of many things in this film:

  • The use of Robin Williams childlike nature YET AGAIN used as a means of courtship. This time THE PRINCESS BRIDE herself, Robin Wright, is the unfortunate love interest.
  • LL COOL J as The Prodigal Son and ALSO The Master of Disguise (shoutout to Dana Carvey.)
  • And finally... the white privilege of a robot's chosen diet.

If you want more follow along as we cover the films of 1983 this year and continue 1993 at the movies on our Patreon feed such as the family film BODY OF EVIDENCE!

Projecting Film - Waiting for THE KILLER with ASSASSINS
play

11/19/23 • 41 min

Patience for a wide theatrical release is in short supply.

When David Fincher releases a new film... we grab the ethernet cable. In this episode about the battle for artistic compression our guest is David Giannini of OFF SCREEN DEATH and A PODCAST DIRECTED BY. As that latter show last produced a series of episodes on Mr. Fincher's filmography we thought it prudent to bring Dave back... to discuss Richard Donner's ASSASSINS. And while the waiting game is different in tone from new release THE KILLER, both provide a good amount of laughs. But only one has a sweaty Antonio Banderas. Enjoy!

For our comeback episode we give our dozens of fans exactly what they want... an episode on how insane fans are. But in a good way! UNITED WE FAN looks at a now decades long tradition of dedicated fans saving their favorite low rated shows which creates both a positive and negative influence on the material being saved. One host is reminded of the turn made in a previous documentary as everything we thought we know may not be entirely accurate in CAPTURING THE FRIEDMANS. Meanwhile your other host chooses to think happy thoughts in the new year and how pop culture pushes us all to find our own love story in LOVE, SIMON. Also we discuss the most depressing Super Bowl party in history. PROJECTING FILM... right back on brand at these links below:

On the road again with Chris and Mike of PROJECTING FILM. A pair of podcast lovers who fancy themselves as Celine and Jesse from Richard Linklater's BEFORE SUNRISE but in actuality are more like Zoe Bell and Kurt Russell from Quentin Tarantino's DEATH PROOF. We'll leave that up to the listeners which one is the cowardly stuntman... BUT FOR NOW we have yet another indie film gem from 2018 with Ethan Warren's WEST OF HER. A strikingly beautifyl film full of stolen shots and stolen moments also manages to keep its feet on the ground and provide the spark of a romance between two people who travel the country together but are heading in very different directions. Also they aren't Chris and Mike. So well worth spending your time with them instead. On that note, follow us at the links below!

Projecting Film - Misremembering H20 for HALLOWEEN KILLS
play

01/11/22 • 43 min

Cinema lives on... in an app called Peacock.

Which is just fine with your two hosts as we continue to detest people in Year Two of a global pandemic. Not as much as the dork from THE BREAKFAST CLUB hates Michael Myers though. Sure, this crazed killer has been involved in a number of shenanigans in his time... we just can't remember them all. And with all the technology at our disposal, we instead choose to deliberate our own memories of the best in this classic slasher series.

HALLOWEEN: H20. We think it has Busta Rhymes in it. Or was that RESURRECTION? Listen to experts debate!

Projecting Film - Abigail (The Menu before The Usual Suspects)

A Gathering of Not-So-Nice People

Some might say that includes this very podcast. Jerks would say that as Jairo of the True Bromance Film Podcast, Chris of Following Films and Bernadette of Australia and audio messages join the show to discuss three films about collecting the unkind to do unkind things to them. Some might say that the host has just done that to his undeserving guests. Enjoy!

For Valentine's Day we offer up a triple feature of being snared by love for new release ENTANGLEMENT. This Thomas Middleditch and Jess Weixler starring romcom reminds us of the manic pixie dream girl trope and how it can be subverted with a seriously manic male lead, be it Bradley Cooper in SILVER LININGS PLAYBOOK or David Thewlis in ANOMALISA. One of your hosts also convinces the other one to not do a Valentine's Day first time watch with the wife of Weixler's breakout film TEETH. To find out if that advice was taken please follow us at the links below:

For our Halloween episode we look at new documentary 78/52 which is a deep dive into the shower sequence from Alfred Hitchcock's classic PSYCHO. Considering that your two hosts are thoroughly unsuitable to leading a deep dive on one of the greatest achievements in cinema, we feel more comfortable explaining our love for this new film by selecting two other movies: Oliver Stone's JFK, famous for its editing and perhaps infamous for its attention to historical accuracy, is paired off with the exhaustive documentary on the NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET series NEVER SLEEP AGAIN: THE ELM STREET LEGACY.

ALSO: We warn young film fans of the dangers of interacting with other cinema lovers online. Speaking of which...

While it may be sad that this year no one should be gathering around the dinner table for the holidays, fear not! For the latest episode of PROJECTING FILM can provide all of the awkwardly boorish conversation you have come to hate for those annual family gatherings as your hosts compare an official Criterion classic in THE BIG CHILL to something that is truly great... which is the DAREDEVIL publicity tour episode of DINNER FOR FIVE.

We have never felt more right.
