[note: I quoted/translated extensively from Oswaldo Zavala's Los cárteles no existen: Narcotráfico y cultura en México (2018) because it had not yet been translated yet into English. Subsequently, an English translation has come out]

First entry into a new series on paranoid cinema, and I'm joined by Dmitri (@drposhlost) of Subliminal Jihad to discuss the Sicario films, Sicario (2015) and Sicario: Day of the Soldado (2018). We go through the plots of each film and discuss how they might function as a limited hangout. Among various topics, we talk about Taylor Sheridan and the nature of screenwriting.

Then we discuss the broader Mexican drug war. We talk about the banks, McCoy and Peter Dale Scott, plane crashes and container ships, and then compared the Sicario films to the analysis provided by the book Los Carteles No Existen (The Cartels Do Not Exist) by Oswaldo Zavala, before arriving at the dark truth about the drug war in Mexico.

By 1970, the literal former head of a death squad was running Guatemala - Colonel Carlos Manuel Arana Osorio. He took the death squad model to the next level, and disappearances skyrocketed. In 1972, the survivors of FAR formed the EGP (Ejército Guerrillero de los Pobres, or the Guerrilla Army of the Poor) and shifted from foquismo to a protracted people's war model of insurgency.

I discuss the Catholic church's complicated legacy in Guatemala on both sides of the political spectrum. I discuss Liberation Theology, the Melville Affair, and CUC (Comite de Unidad Campesina, or the Committee for Peasant Unity) which interacted with the EGP.

I explain the major earthquake of February 1976 which triggered the influx of foreign missionaries which would have wild repercussions. I go over the 1980 Spanish Embassy Massacre. In 1982, URNG was formed - Unidad Revolucionaria Nacional Guatemalteca, or Guatemalan National Revolutionary Unity. There was a serious possibility that Guatemala would have a revolution similar to the one that occurred in Nicaragua in 1979. This context is important to understand what is to come.

This week I'm joined by Pastiche Psyop (@pastichepsyop) to discuss Santa Cruz, the University of Santa Cruz and its very curious psychology department, Thomas Sarbin, Craig Haney, David Marlowe, Frank X Barron, Bert Kaplan, G. William Domhoff, the entirely unrelated Santa Cruz serial killer boom, Ed Kemper, Herb Mullin, especially John Linley Frazier, and a wide range of very curious topics. It's extremely good.

It's time to discuss the much-anticipated, much-requested question, "why do you keep raising your eyebrows suggestively at any mention of Indiana?" What follows is necessarily an incomplete attempt, but I cover early Indiana state history, the Indiana Treason Trials, the Knights of the Golden Circle, the curious case of the Ishmael family, Indiana eugenics programs, the weird proto-Christian Identity church milieu there, Terre Haute, some discussion of Charlie Manson's early life, a segment on the Interstate Killer Larry Eyler and the bizarre coverup there, a bit on the Kinsey network and the expat Tibetans, Amoco, Eli Lilly, the Symbionese Liberation Army, various spooks, MKULTRA, talking shit on Parks and Recreation, and a revisit to the conceptual framework of the susness of places in general.

(episode 1 of 2)

I couldn't help myself; not long after Monty and I did our four-part series on Freemasonry, I came into more information about the Jesters which in some ways unlocked the gates of hell. Content warning for child abuse.

Monty and I discuss the disappearance of Johnny Gosch, a paperboy from West Des Moines, Iowa back in 1982, including the Jester connections. We talk about the case history. We also talk about the mayor George Mills and the police chief Orval Cooney (both Jesters), and Monty walks us through the Des Moines Register as a nexus for fascism and pedophilia. I explain the curious connection of the Gab Line and the phone company.

Monty explains the appearance of Sam Soda as well as Noreen Gosch's claims, and we return to Mills and Cooney. We try to make sense of Gunderson's and Bonacci's claims. All of this led us inexorably back to Omaha.
