This prestigious award is granted to only 43 educators across the nation for their exceptional contributions to education.
Davida's journey in education was ignited by a powerful mission: to combat the tragic loss of students to violence. In response to this imperative, she founded the Raising Leaders program, an initiative that has been positively impacting the lives of at least 240 students annually, many involved in juvenile justice.
Raising Leaders is a holistic approach to transforming lives by imparting crucial employment skills, fostering connections between young individuals and community leaders, and providing internships that serve as steppingstones to fulfilling careers. Davida's program is a catalyst for youth community leadership and engagement in Hayward, contributing to a brighter future.
With seven years of experience at Hayward Adult School, Davida Scott's dedication to her students' success and her unwavering commitment to equity earned her recognition from the NEA Foundation. This esteemed foundation, known for celebrating outstanding educators for over two decades, has shortlisted Davida as one of five finalists competing for the top national award of $25,000. The winner will be announced at the NEA Foundation Salute to Excellence in Education event.
Davida's mission and her impressive contributions align perfectly with the NEA Foundation's commitment to public education and collaboration. Her remarkable work has also earned her a well-deserved place in the Alameda County Women's Hall of Fame, where she was inducted as an emerging leader in 2023.
